This is why your 1st character should always be a "Do Everything" character. Do all the guilds and quests and such as 1 guy regardless of RP. THEN you wont annoy everyone with complaints that are unfounded

Uh, no. Not really. Not when we're talking about Skyrim as an RPG.

It does everything else great, except the incredibly crucial RPG part. If you don't want more options, might I suggest you're in the wrong genre? I think you're looking for action adventure.

The game is just fine for me, thats why i havent sold it yet. You on the other hand, should get rid of it if you dont like it. Not make a scene on the interwebs about not liking it.

This may be the official forums but that doesn't mean that people can't complain about aspects of the game they dont like, does it? Otherwise this place would just be stuffed full of sycophantic Bethesda fans and that wouldn't be very fun would it?

That's subjective. Some people are calm and some people are angry. The delivery isn't important unless it's breaking rules. The message is the important thing.

Ummm... you know you don't have to join the College right. You can just go straight to Septimus.

Personally I would expect to see "Cheats, Hints, and Spoilers" In this forum. Not whining and complaining and how in a perfect world they would change up the whole game. I would expect to see some quick question and answer threads about quest help not "Golly Gee Bethesda Really Messed Up This One!"

How did you know that you could go straight to septimus? As far as I know his location wasn't marked on the map? You had to go talk to the college guy to find out where he even was iirc.

I only found out that the specific quest portion was skippable because someone told me. It's basically an exploit like when you could go see Dad immediately after leaving vaule 101. But you're acting like this should be obvious to everyone because everyone is psychic.

No, I understand it isn't the obvious choice. I usually went there after my do everything character had been there, since I knew where it was. I do wish there were other ways of getting in to learn the location, and I find it rather offensive that my scholar is not allowed in just because she doesn't want to join some silly college.

On the other hand, Harkon does say that the last he had heard, the dragon scroll was somewhere in a Dwemer ruin.

If you do it before you go through the MQ, then it seems more of "I just stumbled into this place, and this guys saying something about an elder scroll, i want it" kind of dialogue.

Many of them were in the General part of the forum until they were moved by a moderator to this forum. They have stayed here ever since.

Or you could just go north of the college without joining and just talk to septimus. But you know, complaining is so much more fun.

This.

I found the Elder Scroll before that part of Skyrim's MQ long ago, with my very first character. I decided I wanted to find the northern-most place in Skyrim around level 35, ran into Septimus, who led me to Blackreach and an Elder Scroll. That was awesome.

But then I did the MQ afterwards. You don't need to be that far, you just need to be a certain level to start the quest with Septimus.

Well Skyrim has been out for what 6-7 months now. Bethesda was assuming that their customers would be able to finish the 20hr long main quest in 7 months.

Yup I was in the same boat, hated the idea that all the guards started treating my warrior like a spellcaster just cause he asked some info from a mage.

Thing is though that I'd still have no idea that part was skippable unless someone told me. Quests usually have to be done in steps, and I assumed that Septimus' door would be locked or something like that, and the game would require me to do the quest in the proper order.

On a related note, I'm now lugging around an undroppable ivory claw and Gaulder fragment necklace and can't complete the quest since I need access to Saarthal, which can't happen unless I join the college. If the game would at least be a bit consistent about how it lets us approach quests, I could walk in there without needing to be babysat by the old guy in the college, but since the door is locked that's not gonna happen.

I had like 6 years to do Oblivion's MQ and I never got around to it.

How about you join the college, goto saarthal, get rid of all that crap and then leave and never come back? PROBLEM SOLVED.

What if you didn't know about Sepitmus?

Quit with the useless post. So tired of people being negative to people with different opinions to theirs.

I agree with you OP on this one. The lack of choice is infurating.
