You dun' goofed, Bethesda.

Are you kidding me, Bethesda? Who thought it was a good idea to tie, not an optional part, but the whole. bloody. thing. to the MQ? What's that? I can just go talk to the guys at the College? Yeah, the Guild Master of the Thieves Guild just became an apprentice at the College. Thanks for that. Really great idea, it's just like when Brynjolf used to run up to us and force us to start the TG storyline. We all loved that, didn't we?

I just don't even know what to say. In theory, attaching the DLC to the rest of the world is great. Except for the fact that, unless you've already done the MQ on your character (or are a mage), it forces you to do something you don't want to do. I thought the whole point of an open-world game was freedom of choice?

For the love of God, don't force us into something we might not want to do in the next DLC. Connect it to the rest of Skyrim so that it feels like it belongs, but don't pull some asinine stunt and pigeonhole us into a certain path.

Please, tell me I can just go get the scroll without starting any quests... I'll make up a reason for how he knew, and weave it into my RP, but I just don't want to go power through the MQ I haven't touched yet, miss most everything just so I can finish Dawnguard, nor do I want to join the College. I don't want the guards referring to me as that guy from the College, I don't want the "First Lessons" quest in my log.

To sum up my entire post; :swear:

Yeah I hate magic and unless I'm playing a Mage type I refuse to cast a spell. So no going to the college for this one, thus no finishing the DLC

Or you could just go north of the college without joining and just talk to septimus. But you know, complaining is so much more fun.

Talk to septimis for what? Has nothing to do with the elder scroll. He isn't looking for the ohgma infinium.

Bethesda forced us to do a lot in this game. My least favorite is trying out their amazing Werewolf form ... when I don't want to.

No TES game before has ever made me work so hard to role-play. Sometimes I just have to pretend that some things are just not happening...

Sorry, there are just so many threads complaining about things like this. I don't particularly like it, seeing as my character hates most magic completely, hence why I just went north.

It's such a shame. I don't understand what brought this on. It's one thing to be destined to become the Listener in the DB, it's like becoming the Archmage. It's just expected.

Being forced into selling my soul, or becoming a Werewolf? Not so much. Hell, at least you can cure your Lycanthropy. I have three options;

1) Change my entire RP, so that my Thief is now somehow okay with Nocturnal owning his soul. It just contradicts everything I'd built the character to be.

2) Become a Vampire. Nocturnal can't take my soul when I die, if I don't die.

3) Pretend it never happened.

I hate how its leading you to do the same thing, and also getting those quest items. I hate quest items you cant get rid of.

:shakehead:

The fact that people are against not being forced down a certain route in an RPG makes me so sad. TES has always (up until lately, anyway) been about choice. We're losing more, and more, choices, how are people okay with that?

Not to mention how needlessly hostile your post was.

Your not a very good leader of the thieves guild if you only tried to get into the college through the front door. There are other ways in ;) ways that don't require you to join the college.

Wow... just... wow. Doesnt this make you want to just take a taxi down to bethesda studios and march around with complaint signs? Hopefully not but that would be hilarious to watch.

Protest #3: We want our fictional characters in an imaginary world to have more options!

Arent there more important things to whine about?

Funny thing, in a lot of stories to complete an objective the Hero has to do things he doesn't want to do. God forbid a quest actually ask you to do something other then kill things.

Talk to septimis for what? Has nothing to do with the elder scroll. He isn't looking for the ohgma infinium.
Congradulations you've just proven YOU'VE NEVER done the mainquest up to the point where you get the elderscroll.

Wait so let me get this straight:

Bethesda 'goofed' because they tied in the DLC to the whole point of Skyrim?

The point of Skyrim was to fight the dragon threat. I don't understand why everyone hates the MQ so much? If you don't like it then do not play? So basically what I get out of the OP is that you hate the fact the DLC deals with the MQ. You feel forced to do all the optional things.

Might I add you have not been 'forced' to do anything? I have yet to deal with the College via the DLC. I can agree that you do get pushed into the thieves guild and other things, but no not forced.

Uh, no. Not really. Not when we're talking about Skyrim as an RPG.

It does everything else great, except the incredibly crucial RPG part. If you don't want more options, might I suggest you're in the wrong genre? I think you're looking for action adventure.

How did you know about that on your first playthrough? People are complaining because they don't know it's an option to do that, obviously.
