Your Character Should be Able to Smoke in Skyrim!

Post » Fri Jun 15, 2012 11:03 am

Yeah, it would. Things with romantic interests without a homosixual one tend to get bad critique. No unbiased reviewer will say "I'm not playing this game because it has gays. Gays are bad." etc. Homophobia stinks.
People that get offended by content of any kind in a video game are too sensitive. People have too much time on their hands if they have time to sit around and protest against optional homosixuality in a video game

A lot of people enjoy cooking and a lot don't. It's a fun role playing option and I think smoking would offer just as much optional fun

Would an unbiased reviewer say "I'm not playing this game because it has no gay marriage option?" It seems your definition of "unbiased" means "agrees with ikillpeople".

Although, I suppose we should avoid this direction of the conversation altogether or some mod will get uptight about it, and there's no point in turning the debate political.

Like I said, smoking would be kinda pointless, regardless of your feelings about tobacco. Heck, kinda like marriage in the game, now that I think about it.

I don't care what people say about this indirect, yet silly influence on society- smoking weed from a pipe is a must in any fantasy game.

After Gandalf's famous artistic master work of smoking, people everywhere in any fantasy realm should be setting their swords aside for some http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_rZgBjL-vco0/Ss4n-yztESI/AAAAAAAAAIA/4hWIZU11KEg/s400/gandalf_smoking.jpg.

Well, people drink themselves stupid in Skyrim already, I've got no problem with smoking if it's in context. I'd expect more pipes than a classic cigarette though, that's more of a Fallout thing.

Name 5 games you can smoke in. I'm sure you'd be hard pressed to find them.
Just about every metal gear and metal gear solid game out there. Hell, in MGS2 you could fire a heat seeking missile, take out your cigarette, and have it turn around and come after you.

If we had to get it I vote for this.

Couple more things:
For smoking, I think it would be too close to the real world counterpart. For example, skooma is just simply an illegal potion that loosely represents an illegal drug. So is sleeping tree sap. Smoking though, would be heavily based on a real drug and I think that's where the difference is.

You go from drugs that are cartoonish in their relations to real world counterparts to smoking which is impossible to loosely base off of tobacco.

Either way, it wouldn't make a difference. What happens when you eat or drink in TES? You hear a sound effect, the item is removed from your inventory, and that's it. Your character doesn't pause for a minute to eat and drink, so why would your character do that to smoke?

Yes an unbiased reviewer would say that, I don't care if you agree with me or not buddy. But it would have a lot more controversy involved with that, because all the gays would be offended, and the choice would be completely optional, why not have it?

Adds more depth to the role playing aspect of the game

Yeah, I agree it adds some depth to the character and life as thief in Whiterun. Think of it as something like from Lord Of Rings. Give me a pipe and sword.

Also, bioshock, Cid in FFVI, duke nukem, Jake hunter, Stubbs the zombie, manny in grim fandango, and bill in L4D. I think that's more than 5

The thing is, cooking actually serves a purpose (atleast early in the game.)

More so than smoking a pipe.

Food is my last resort when I'm out of potions, so I usually cook stuff.

As a chain smoker I have to ask this: why would anybody do such a terrible thing? I liked the whole weed thing in the Gothic series because it turned half the characters into potheads and reminded me of my teenage years, but "smoking" as in "smoking cigarettes"? I am a smoker and I can't really justify that act myself other than "it keeps my hands from flayling around like a [censored]", it doesn't add anything to the game world.

Believe it or not kids do play the game and most if not all are Very impressionable it's better to leave it to modders to make it then hearing in the news bethesda being sued because some nine-year old stole their mom or dads cigerattes and their only excuse was "Well i did it in a video game and nothing bad happened" get my point?

Precisely. It's like that guy, he went and killed a few people then claimed he was playing World of Warcraft, that doesn't help Blizzard's reputation much. They could do the same thing here, "5 year old smokes weed because of naughty fantasy game, Skyrim."

I never heard about that but that is a good point , heck i remember they had to rename almost every drug in fallout 3 due to a "real world resemblence".
