Your Character Should be Able to Smoke in Skyrim!

Post » Fri Jun 15, 2012 7:49 pm

Smoking has been present in almost every story/movie/myth that the Elder Scrolls games have drawn inspiration from. For those who say it would make kids want to start smoking, I disagree. A Mature rated game should include Mature content. It would be fun to be able to sit in your house and smoke some freshly picked pipe-weed. Opinions?

Doesn't really seem like a deal breaker. A lot of video game companies tend to avoid tobacco products because of their controversy I think. There are many other things I'd much rather have.

EDIT: And what stories/movies/myths include smoking that they draw inspiration from?

It's unnecessary. It would serve no functional purpose and I doubt that a lot of people would be excited.

If two guys or two girls can get married in Skyrim I don't think they are that worried about controversy.

There are a lot of things you could argue serve no purpose in Skyrim. It would add to the role playing experience of the game.

I think there would be more controversy if a marriage had to be a guy and a girl.

As for smoking, you have moon sugar and skooma. Unless I'm forgetting something, that's it. I don't see how smoking would ever fit into TES

Just take a hit of Skooma like everyone else and be happy.

Moon Sugar seems like it could be more controversial than a simple tobacco pipe

There is a purple tree with a spigot on it west of Whiterun in the tundra. Find it and use your imagination.

Name 5 games you can smoke in. I'm sure you'd be hard pressed to find them.

i seriously feel like a lot of people would really enjoy smoking in their houses, on horseback, or sitting in a field somewhere looking at the sky in Skyrim

Some people would really enjoy it, others would never use it. The option would just be fun :)

Yeah, it would. Things with romantic interests without a homosixual one tend to get bad critique. No unbiased reviewer will say "I'm not playing this game because it has gays. Gays are bad." etc. Homophobia stinks.

It would be cool to be able to find really sick looking rare pipes or even be able to craft your own!

Good point there.

I think it's a bit silly to avoid people having pipes out of some concern for being politically correct, but at the same time, eating and cooking is fairly useless in the game - so what would the point be of smoking?
