Your Character Should be Able to Smoke in Skyrim!

Post » Fri Jun 15, 2012 2:00 pm

No, the use of narcotic drugs is not something American culture generally accepts and nicotine is almost as looked down upon. If Beth included smoking it would upset a lot of people and cause them to lose money, apart from the fact smoking is downright disgusting.

If smokers are put in the game, I'll just kill them. There, no more smokers.

But seriously, don't do this Beth. The addicted people can go satisfy their vile habit somewhere else. keep it out of TES.

Doesn't really seem like a deal breaker. A lot of video game companies tend to avoid tobacco products because of their controversy I think. There are many other things I'd much rather have.

EDIT: And what stories/movies/myths include smoking that they draw inspiration from?

i remember reading pipe-weed, but yeah, not a deal breaker, i can smoke in real life. also, i try to keep fire damage weapons as my go-to killing implements, so things are already smoking around my premises.

Wouldn't it be cool for your character to find a certain plant accidently set it on fire and feel some weird effects........ like been extremely mellow. I'd love to walk through the streets of solitude baked ha ha.

i'm saying, dude.

i laughed that in lotr when there was a dilemma that required deep thought, gandalf would ponder over a pipe

"finest pipe-weed in the north."

. . . Seriously?

Quite honestly, I'd rather see them working on a lot of things than something that adds close to nothing to the game.

skyrim is full of lots of things that add nothing to the game. maybe have effects from smoking different herbs (i pretend that is what i do when i "eat" ingredients anyway), like in real life. tobacco smoking would be lame, though. a pointless real life activity, made extra pointless via dragon slayer simulation.... yes. lol.

Thankfully I think the OP is enough of a minority that Beth will concentrate on things that add content to the game in the future.

lols :teehee: How is that controversial unless your from Mississippi ? smoking is a health hazard that is addictive and slowly kills you , drowining on your own mucus cus your lungs are half dead

Or just about every other state in the Union, and the majority of the rest of the planet. Same six marriage was done in Skyrim because people play the opposite gender (I mostly play male characters) and want to be able to marry their actual preference. I'd be pretty disappointed if I had to marry another girl ingame just because I played a male character. I'd feel no attraction to her, and probably wouldn't even bother.

I played both genders, but I married the opposite gender both times too.

I wasn't saying people didn't do it, I'm saying that a lot of people don't and it was smart of Beth to notice that and compensate for it.

Sure, but only if it permanently drains your stamina every time you smoke and you eventually die from it.

Or just about every other state in the Union, and the majority of the rest of the planet.

Only if you're a close minded person

Pretty sad isn't it?

Nah. Its nice.

No, the use of narcotic drugs is not something American culture generally accepts and nicotine is almost as looked down upon.

We have [censored] Skooma. And like another poster said, Skooma is basically speed.

apart from the fact smoking is downright disgusting.

So just because you don't like it, then that means other people shouldn't have the option? Pretty arrogant of you. What people do with there own bodies(or their characters bodies) is nobodies business but theirs.

I almost feel like becoming a smoker purely out of spite.

Also how is drinking alcohol OK, but smoking isn't? The hypocrisy in this thread..

I've never found the action of 'Smoking' to be cool. It just screams "Hey look, I'm destroying my body and I don't want you to come near me because my lungs are black."

But aside from my elementary school service cop speech, You do have moon sugar, which is typically smoked. Morrowind even has smoke pipes.

Yes they did. So the peoples arguments about "controversy" is clearly bull.

Oblivion has tobacco. Skyim has rolled up paper. Not too hard to make a cig out of that. Also what about pipes?

Smoking has been present in almost every story/movie/myth that the Elder Scrolls games have drawn inspiration from. For those who say it would make kids want to start smoking, I disagree. A Mature rated game should include Mature content. It would be fun to be able to sit in your house and smoke some freshly picked pipe-weed. Opinions?

I realize Skyrim is not set within a particular time, but I'd say we can all agree that it owes the mystique of its environment in some way to the medieval times. In any case, as smoking tobacco wasn't something people did until it was discovered in North America, might it appear as a bit of an anachronism in the context of Skyrim?

To people that are soo against smoking in a video game, what is the big deal?! If you don't like it, don't do it! The option for those of us that want it would be nice.

Yes, but that's like what...10 of you? Development time would be better spent on other features than adding smoking which would only appeal to a small percentage of the fan base.

Edit: sorry if this comes off mean. I'm not trying to offend anyone.

People are too damn sensitive. You can't sensor everything just to protect other people from what you feel they need to be protected from. In a game where you can murder every one you see, I want the option to smoke a pipe. Cry about it.
