Your most "I'm an idiot" gaming moment.

Got Fallout 3 for the first time and completely missed Megaton and we were walking for miles until I died so I sold it.

Looked at a walkthrough of it, thats when I felt like a complete fool.
I bhought it a few months after that though.

Valve likes to make me look stupid. I have gotten stuck at many points in Half Life 2 and Portal, only to see that the solution was simple.

Nothing more frustrating than being stuck on one puzzle for ages, and no better feeling than finally solving the puzzle.

Oh, many. My most memorable bit of cluelessness was not realising it was possible to move the map around in Oblivion until I'd been playing a couple of hundred hours: prior to that, if I wanted to fast travel somewhere, I'd have to go in several hops via various pissy little forts and things where I'd invariably be attacked by the local miscreants. As it was, I only discovered that the map was moveable by accident anyway.

I couldn't get past the tutorial for Assassins Creed. The part were you had to push past the people with the pots on their heads. I thought I had to keep pressing B, so frustrating. Eventually I worked out that I had to hold it in.

Yes, I was so angry when I tried doing that for 40 minutes then finally got it :swear:

I've had a couple of moments in Skyrim but one stands out. During the intro mission at the mage collage where you visit some ruins as a field trip. I got to a room that had six rotating stone switches. I couldn't find the room with the solution to the puzzle, I got rather annoyed untill I found out the solution was BEHIND the stone switches. I forgot what the name of the mission was but it's like the first mission you undertake at the collage.

My "I'm an idiot" memory goes back when I was playing Morrowind for the first time and in Vivec I got *lost* in the stairs to leads up to the next canton level, because I couldn't see where I was and keep asking my self why can't I find the way out of this *maze*. :wallbash:

Finally I phone a good friend of mine and his wife told me how, but she was also the one who got me inspired to play Morrowind in the first place.

Ha, I did this too. Also at first I didn't realise you could fast travel either. That was a big fail.

I remember getting really angry at this too, and trying loads of ways to avoid the people, and re-reading the manual over and over again.

EDIT- Can't think of many other fails at the minute, mainly just not knowing where to go or how to progress to the next bit.

I've got two because I can't figure it out.

1) Playing Silent Hunter 3, I start sneaking up on a convoy. I put up my periscope and start checking out the ships, and the locations of the destroyers. Suddenly the destroyers open fire on me and all turn towards me in a massive coordinated attack. Turns out, I forgot to actually submerge my U-Boat, and was sneaking up on them on the surface... in broad daylight...

2) Resident Evil 4. I reached the part where Ashley gets captured in the Castle (right before you have to control her), and you have to shoot the giant iron restraints with a sniper rifle. Well, I tried shooting them, and thought I hit them, but it turns out I missed. Since I thought I hit, I spent the next hour checking every single thing in the room, and even had a few friends take over and start searching too. I finally went to go check online, facepalm, walk back over to the Gamecube, grab the controller, and shoot the restraints. Everyone laughed, and couldn't believe we didn't try it again.

Playing Operation Flashpoint FDF CO-OP during a forum night. A team of about a dozen players crawl up a hill leaving the APC behind to take the enemy by surprise. I decide to bring the APC for back up and park it on top of a hill in view of the enemy Russian camp in the valley. Enemy sees the APC. Enemy blows up APC. Almost everyone dies. I get kicked from the server.

1. Where's the light on my pipboy?

- I'm an idiot.

2. Oh cool, a mini nuke on a table.. didn't see the mine in front of it though.

2a. Speaking of nukes.. don't point them at the ground and shoot.

- such an idiot.

3. Vehicles are *not* viable cover in a prolonged firefight.

3a. Same goes for busses.

- chunky bits of idiot flying all over the place.

4. "I ought to be able to jump down from that.."

Idiot.

5. Running MMM increased increased spawns and feral ghoul rampage, without a wheel barrow of ammo with me.

- now that's just plain dumb.

Hmm, I'm suddenly reminded of not discovering that activating a toilet didn't activate my bladder until doing it in 3rd person mode: I always wondered why weeing made a slurping noise. Ew.

Exiting the thieves guild in Skyrim for the first time, it took me about 10 or 12 loops through before I looked for the lever.

no.friggin'.kidding

this goes beyond anything remotely associated with idiot. This is in a completely different ballpark, league and even game than idiot. An idiot would be happily equated to a Stephen Hawkings compared to the utter level of brain imploding numbscullery I'm feeling right now. I need a drink.

I still struggle to find my way out of the giant courtyard area right at the beginning of Half Life 2 after hitting the guard in the head with the can. I eventually find my way out, but I immediately forget it after that and derp around that area for 10 minutes whenever I start a new game.

It took me about 72 hours to discover the ability to sprint in Skyrim and a further 10 hours to find out I could rotate the map.

It took me until my second playthrough to figure out the map rotation.
