AaGeOn's HQ Texture Pack - WiP - Part 2

Post » Fri May 18, 2012 7:53 pm

Can't wait for this texture mod to be released! great job AaGeOn. Just my two cents, I think the rocks textures are too bright, I think they need to be a little darker like this? http://www.zacharywalker.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2011/05/beautiful-lake-and-lovely-rocky-mountains-09.jpg ...

Well I really hated the original ones, the mountain models have straight lines everywhere: I tried to work with the models and took this as my reference: http://lewisaz.org/images/TrekonYellowMountain_827D/YellowMountain203.jpg

I agree I have gone a bit overboard with the detail :) I'll trim it down a bit :)

I actually like the straight lines :P

But the new textures look fab anyway :cake:

10/12: Mountains: Smaller update: --> Decreased the brightness a bit, added a bit of color, removed some detail, cracks are now darker.

Your road texture is absolutely phenomenal. 100% true to the original design, and a clear testament to your skill. Can't wait to add it to my game!

Your rock textures though... well the reason I'm in love with your work is because it stays so true to the original art direction. Your rock textures don't. Your reference for example is from China I believe? I'm sure some people will love it though, and that's fine. No reason I can't just choose to skip over the rocks during installation.

On top of that, there's already a phenomenal rock texture pack (4096x4096) which stays true to the original design - giving those hard northern galciated rocks a detailed work-over. Same visual impact from a distance as vanilla, but now looks great close-up too. Also has that added benefit of making the snow shader look more detailed in the process, since it's such a large texture:

Well I didn't like the original texture (the only texture I don't want it to be vanilla look). On the full release I will add an alternative download with a more vanilla texture ;)

New rocks look better! But if you would add an alternative texture for them that looks more vanilla, that would be amazing!

You rock, keep up the awesome work.

Damn, you work quickly! I know you mentioned some textures that took you two days to make, but on average, how long does it take for you to hand-paint one?
As for the rock textures, they look great. Any changes to them now would be due to personal taste, in my opinion.

I think I like the bigger more vertical cracking in the original rocks. But like ^^ personal taste, they still look incredible good, still most anticipated mod :)

Everything looks great, and I know you're probably getting tired of hearing this, but I also think your rock/mountain textures are too much of a change from vanilla. Since you're providing two different textures anyway, there's no issue, just wanted to voice my opinion anyhow :P.

It takes me about 4-12 hours per texture simple ones or base textures, hard or really detailed ones take around 16-40 hours to complete :)

How do the snow-caked rocks and walls and such look close-up? I remember a thread around here about how awful the snow shader (or whatever it is) looks.

It looks great upclose, due to the larger textures and new normals, the generated top layer snow is now much smoother.

10/12: Mountains (AGAIN :P): Due to requests for vanilla: Combined my view on the mountains and took the vanilla design as a reference: added bigger cracks and mountain veins, lowered the brightness, took some detail out of my texture to make it a little smoother. So it's now a little of both worlds :)

I like the new mountain textures. So awesome. Looks more like actual rocky mountains (such as in western canada).

I'd like to see Helgen done. Purely because it's the first place you see and to me it sets the bar for what the other towns will look like.
