Oh dear, not you again.
Meh, I'm out. Sins of a Solar Empire time.
It's the truth. Skyrim is not "dumbed down". I've explained it plenty of times, but I'll explain it again.
-Less skills does not amount to less complexity. Each individual skill in Skyrim offers multiple paths of specialization, which allows deeper customization and specialization than Oblivion and even Morrowind. Where Oblivion has 2 weapon styles (blade, blunt), the specializations within Skyrim's perks allow for blade, blunt, axe, dagger, or dual wield specialization, which is 5. Getting those specializations through perks is no "less complex" than selecting it as a Major Skill in Morrowind.
-Armorer was removed, and replaced with a deeper, more complex crafting system.
-Mysticism is not removed. All of it's effects exist in the game in other schools.
-Hand to Hand still exists, and has perks that allow for it to be specialized in.
-Unarmored has perks that allow for it to be specialized in.
-Perks allow for all of the same effects as Attributes - all except for Speed. Strength effected melee damage - there are perks to increase melee damage. Agility effected staggering - there are perks that effect staggering. Carry weight is effected by Stamina.
-Character speed was removed, the ability to sprint was added.
-Athletics and Acrobatics were lost, but more in depth skills like Pickpocket and Enchanting saw their return.
-Spellmaking was removed, but new casting mechanics and new effects were added, as well as the ability to combine spell effects with dual casting.
-Puzzles were added to quests and dungeons. Choices were added to quests.
So where exactly was the game "dumbed down"?
Again, you may not "prefer" the current design direction, but that does not make it "dumbed down".
Dumbed down is both insulting, and inaccurate.
