Aldmeri Dominion in Ancient Europe

Its nothing to do with Romania. Romani (Gypsy) & Romanians are two different people. The word Romani comes from the Indian Sanskrit root Raman.

To clear this up once and for all.

The romani of romania and romani gypsys from india or what ever can be confusing. First off of the romani kragius maximus keeps talking about are some little known offshoot of people appartntly from india, theres maybe up to 2.5 mill of them speaking it, there language isnt even an official language.

The Romani im talking about with the little thingy above the a are the natives of Romania 23 mill speakers, its a romance language, and yes rome was a huge part of there history and society, it was the Romanization of Dacia that formed the Romanian people.

Actually Romanians and Romani are as different as apples and oranges and neither have anything to do with the Romans.

Giveingmelipboy is just flat wrong. Romanians today are proud of there connection to the glorys of Rome. Just look at the name Romania, does that not say it all? Sorry my reply got off topic but I just wanted to reply to them.

I will steer myself back and say the ashlanders of morrowind seem to be very similar to some modern day nomads of mongolia.

But that is in the Romanian language. We are all writing in the worldwide used English language and not Romanian. In English "Romani" (also sometimes spelt as Rommany or Romany which tends to be an older way of spelling as used by the author George Burrow) means the people who came to Europe of NW India origin who are also referred to as "Gypsies". Romanian (or sometimes spelt as Rumanian) is the people from the country of Romania (also sometimes spelt as Rumania) when using the English language.

Yer. I agree with you here. Mongolian & the related Turkic people. Even their tents are called 'yurts' which is the same (in turkic) and they have shamans and spirits etc the same

I think the wood elves are combo of the Native Americans and Celtic peoples.

I always saw them as being like south east Asian rainforest people and the High Elves were more Chinese / Japanese / Korean etc. Now I tend to see the Akaviri as being more Japanese etc.

Maybe the High Elves are more Atlantis / American as in the magical sounding people like the Mayans / Aztecs / Incas. Then the Wood Elves would be more like American rainforest than Asian.

Tu janes e romani jib?

The only Romani in Romania are the so many thousand Romani gypsy that happen to live there. Most of them are of the Kalderash branch of Vlax Roma. As for the native RomaniAN people. They obviously speak RomaniAN

Apparently by coincidence these two groups of people share the same name.

Romanians also refer to them selves as Romani, but not the same Romani from India that you keep going on about Maximus, thats all im trying to say, im not trying to complicate things.
I clearly separated the two groups in my post 151, and then your reply to it was just completely incorrect.

To get back on topic and why the romani were even brought up to begin with...

I find that the stereotypical carnival-atmosphere perception of romani might have inspired the TES Khajiit: eastern accents, social outcasts, travel in caravans and are commonly associated with deception, thievery and the trade of stolen/illegal goods.

In comparison with the real romani, who live in settlements and were craftsmen and artisans by trade, they are not very similar at all.

I think you need to brush up on your history friend. The Romans conquered Dacia, and occupied it for roughly two centuries before withdrawing due to pressure. Firstly, two centuries are not enough for peoples to mix, especially since the Romans were usually only present in their provinces with military forces and did not mix with native inhabitants. And secondly, if the Romans DID mix with Dacians, that blood is probably mostly gone now due to many centuries of intermarriage with surrounding peoples. Now I'm not a specialist in DNA or anything, but if I were asked, I'd say Romanians today have most in common with the Slavs. Also, the Romans as a people and culture totally integrated into other nearby cultures so it's safe to say that peoples like Italians, Germans and Spanish have as much Roman blood (if not more) as the Romanians coursing through their veins.

I always associated Khajiit with savvy Arabic merchants, as there is no proof they live a nomadic life in Elyswyer.

Ah, Khajiit will find the best prices anywhere, no matter the distance. J'rahzir knows. Though, J'rahzir also feels that there is so much more to the Khajiit than charm and trade. Perhaps one will know when things go missing and fur is left behind. The mystery never ceases with Khajiit.

@MouseKing, That is the point.  Nearly every comparison you make to one real world culture can apply to several others. There was a lot of thought put into the design and culture of these races. Saying they are just like X culture or civilization is underselling them viciously.

[censored] I knew what the point was, I'm just saying that was a stupid point to try and make.

You are blowing a lot of smoke, nowhere do I say Romanians have some percentage of Roman blood, though they likely do. Apparently no matter what I say here people will muck it up. It don’t matter how simple and clear I am. Ok Romans conquered Dacia and romanized it, this is the second time ive said this (historical fact). This means the people living there took on a lot of roman ways including language. You are going to sit here and tell me Romania has little to do with the ancient Roman Empire. Oh coarse that fact that they call them selves ROMANIANS, there nations is called ROMANIA, they speak a ROMANCE language based on Latin. Sir, I dont know how clear and concise I can be, Romania has a connection to the Roman Empire end of story.

I wish there was a Romanian here to back me up.

I try to keep to known facts.

Sorry to get off topic again. I will try not to respond to the next comeback these guys make no matter how they twist it.

The ideology, yes. the culture and appearance, not at all.

I think the OP was looking more for a historic similarity then he was a physical one.

vikings are a germanic people. I believe.
And yes Nords are more like vikings.

Vikings were Scandinavians, the Germanic tribes were also Scandinavian people. Scandinavia is a historic region in Northern Europe that consist of Norway, Sweden and Denmark. So really in the end, its all the same.

General Tullius in Skyrim has a name close to the same as an ancient Roman King name Tullus Hostilius, a very war like king.
Does General Tullius have a last name, or is it just General Tullius in the game?

A quick check with my romanian friend (who is also ethnically romani incidentally), confirms that you are correct. Romania is closely connected with the Byzantine empire (which was Roman), it was part of the Byzantine empire all the way to its' final days and then became a battleground between slavic kingdoms and the ottoman empire. Romanians are ethnically diverse (moldovan, hungarian, german, romani to name a few influences), but romanian culture traces its' roots back to the eastern roman empire.

Yes, yes you just contradicted yourself in the first sentence. First you said you don't say Romanians have some percentage of Roman blood, then you promptly stated they probably do. Also, I wasn't twisting what you said, I simply contradicted it. Then again, by your standards, every country in Europe which was once part of the Roman Empire (mostly everybody), is basically Roman. Of course that's just my opinion. I've said what I wanted to and whether you believe it or not is your call.

This is why you don’t debate with some one called yougivinmelipboy. He says I contradicted myself when I clearly didn’t, .. this is what i said in that first sentance. (You are blowing a lot of smoke, nowhere do I say Romanians have some percentage of Roman blood, though they likely do.)

Let me show you what a real contradiction is.

First you say
Firstly, two centuries are not enough for peoples to mix, especially since the Romans were usually only present in their provinces with military forces and did not mix with native inhabitants.

Then you say
Also, the Romans as a people and culture totally integrated into other nearby cultures so it's safe to say that peoples like Italians, Germans and Spanish have as much Roman blood (if not more) as the Romanians coursing through their veins.

That’s a contradiction.

That would normally be a contradiction, and it is my fault for not properly explaining what I mean. Alright, here goes (I'm not English but I'll try my best). The Romans did not mix with conquered peoples in their provinces. However, what I meant by "Also, the Romans as a people and culture totally integrated into other nearby cultures so it's safe to say that peoples like Italians, Germans and Spanish have as much Roman blood (if not more) as the Romanians coursing through their veins." is that the Romans as a people totally dissapeared into the annals of history, and it's likely that they just blended into different cultures. They did not do this at the height of their power though. In other words, Roman garrisons in provinces (such as Dacia) did not mix with the local populations, but the Romans as a people blended into others. I cannot put it any more clearly than that. But like I said, you don't have to believe a word I say, your call broski.

lol. Someone mentioned that they thought Khajiit were like Indians (as in the country India - which is also my feelings) and someone else thought they were like Romani so I made made the point that Romani origins are ethnic Indian.....which lead someone else to mistake Romani with RomaniANs as in the Eastern European people of RomaniA (no connection. Just coincidentally similar sounding names. two completely different people)....

and now its lead onto the a discussion over Romanians & Romans, lol. I love history. Its good to share facts. Its amazing what you can learn through reading others comments. Keep it up. Its interesting

Anyway... back to thread. Maybe Aldmeri Dominion is an Atlantis theme based on Plato's book and linking it to the Americas. Some think the islands that now make up the Caribbean in the Mexican gulf were once one island being Atlantis. Aztecs etc claim descent from over the sea. Many think the people of the Americas such as the Aztecs and Mayas etc who built the pyramids were from Atlantis.... They weren't so much an armor wearing people but people of knowledge. Just throwing new ideas in. The Bosmer of Valenwood would be more like south America's rainforest people who would obviously be a branch of them. Seeming that Aldmeri Dominion is west of what would be the equivalent of Europe & Sahara Africa

Try to keep this discussion away please, I won't ask again.

General Tullius makes me think of Julius Caesar (with Ulfric Stormcloak as Vercingetorix). I don't think he has a last name. In-game, at least.
And J'rahzir, I must say, I like the character you put into your posts. Brings the Khajit-love to new heights.
