Aldmeri Dominion in Ancient Europe

Post » Tue Jun 12, 2012 1:11 am

((The Thalmor aren't the Aldmeri Dominion, though. Thats the thing. Sort of like Blades aren't the Imperial Empire. It is a part of it, but not all of it.))

Well the Nazis weren't Germany in the 30s, if you want to go down that road. Also while the Thalmor represent the Aldmeri Dominion politically the Blades never were more than an elitist guard and never held political power. ^^

The Thalmor basically are the Altmer equivalent to the NSDAP.

Yeah, in many ways, you can see the Thalmor as the Nazis: banning out some kind of religion, being harsh, thinking they are superior. So Nazis of the Ancient Greek States, that's how I see them now :P

Perhaps the Bosmer did not expect it enough?

The imperials are NOT basically Romans. :deal: You are woefully underselling the unique depth of the Imperial culture created in this game series. It is actually quite deep. There are very few things the Imperials have in common with Romans. Most of the things they do have in common with them are completely superficial. Bethesda just wanted them to look Roman to get more fans to feel familiar with the game and identify the empire.

I don't believe they even wear armor like that in Oblivion. It felt kinda out of place in Skyrim though. Meh, at least it looks better than the guard/Stormcloak armor. All in all, the only thing that reminds me of Rome about the Empire is the legion.

persians left the scene when alexander conquered the middle east and where replaced by what later would become the parthian kingdom the only independent king dom in the western world when they collapsed they where replaced by the sassanid a even worse enemy of rome
actually the 4 horseman of the apocalypse is a reverence to the parthian/sassanid mounted warriors
Persia reappears after the collapse of the tamarine (sp) empire in the 15 th century AD

Wow, that's a cool fact there. I always though the four horseman were a reference to nomadic tribes but I always though Huns or Avars.

^ It's because they made the Cyrodillian Empire look and feel so much like Ancient Rome.
Only threw their clothing other than that they are nothing alike.

The Forsworn really are nothing like the 'Celts.' The only way I could arrive at that conclusion is if I relied on Braveheart and Gladiator as my primary sources.

I think the situation between Nords and Forsworn is a lot like the situ between the Saxons and their northern neighbors, the Celts and Gaels, plus the Reach looks like Scotland and people make the connection. Personally, I'd associate them with Picts but that's just me.

It does feel out of place in Skyrim, I agree with AlbinoDunmer, the armor was added for more people to idenify with and recognize the empire.
I personally like the Stormcloak armor.
The legions and the empire armor is what reminds me of Rome but other than that they are entirely different.

Lol, I always connect the Stormcloak armor with these dresses my grandma used to wear and I can't take them seriously.
On the other hand, I think they did a great job with all the light and low-level armors as well as the clothes, then they went and made all uber armors look horrible. I suppose they wanted to boycott munchkins.

Oh that would make me second guess Stormcloak armor as well.
I really like all the armor in this game except glass and dragonscale, they look just to heavy they should have been made more light looking if you know what I mean not be so bulky.

Honestly, the Altmer to me remind me of Feudal Japan. In the concept art, the Altmer is in a Kimono, wielding a katana look a like. Also, the Altmer exhibit extreme xenophobia, and try to maintain a "pure" bloodline.

Yep. My most hated armor is Daedric though, they WAY overdid the fantasy aspect on that. I try to view TES as a more realistic medieval world (like LOTR) and so I ask myself; would I wear that in an actual battle? BTW, the Dwemer armor looks so, boss I'd wear it in Warhammer 20k! Also, if you're the type who loves sick-looking light armor, or if you're just RP-ing a ranger, I recommend the ranger armor mod. It's epic!

I think the TES team meant for Akavir to be the far East (Japan in particular). Hence the Akaviri katana and the Blades armor which looks like something a samurai would wear.

See I like the Daedric armor, I like the high fantasy of it but I played Morrowind and I can see the Elder Scrolls can go way over the top in fantasy offerings. The Dwemer armor is one of th best done in this game I was very impressed I was disappointed by those in Oblivion.
I would use mods but right now I play it on the 360.

Actually, what I meant to say was that I think the Daedric only looks good on Dremora.

Oh, I do not know I have been a fan of all the Daedric armors since Morrowind if it suits my character that is.

Now don't be rash. I was merely stating that many aspects of Altmeri culture are reminiscent of Japanese culture.

nazi's...they believe they're the supreme race and all others should fall under their rule

not ancient but imo nazi and altmeri have the most in common then other groups

Not even close. The austrian guy wanted to CREATE a "super" race which didn't even fitted to himself. Also the Nazis were the Politician not the civilian or soldiers living in germany to that time. So i don't think the Altmeri fits to the german history since no one of them has seen themself as a supreme race. Always sad to hear people call all germans Nazis......

The Altmer may fill this Not-See culture. Such arrogance and such disregard for the lesser races is quite prevalent amongst these beings. Khajiit does not trust such Elves, though J'rahzir admits, he does not trust Elves.

The Nords doens't trust the other races to. I think the most races don't trust each other.

Elves don't trust most races
Khajiit don't trust Elves and Argonian
Argonian don't trust Khajiit
Nord don't trust any other race

just a few examples.
