Annoying WoW mindset

Post » Tue Jun 05, 2012 6:23 pm

Incidentally, these are the same people who ruin MMO's.

In the beginning of even MMO's like WoW, people built their characters for fun, or even with some eye towards efficiency if you PvP'd, but once the min maxers come in the herd mentality means there is always a flavor of the month build, and the devs end up catering game design to players like that.

If you look at old MMO's before WoW, it still existed, but I found old MMOs like DAoC, and especially UO SO much more enjoyable because unlike WoW, you would actually meet some people who didn't play it like an e-sport, whereas in WoW that is basically the standard now. Ruins games period.

Big deal.

I used one, since the game won't allow me to plan out my character with major skills, minor skills, preferred attributes, specialisation and birthsign.
It was basically necessary to roleplay my specialised class, instead of just an jack-of-all-trades adventurer class.

When the Perk lists were finally released, I went pretty bananas. I mapped out my own Perk Builder spreadsheet to plan out my characters, four in all. I tried to diversify their designs so that almost every Perk would be used by at least one character. I also limited my choices to about 30-40 per character since I wasn't sure how far I would level each one.

I mapped out each character, changed my mind, refined and retuned, and mapped again. I emailed my spreadsheet from my home computer to my work computer and back again, continuing to process and tweak my builds all through the week before release.

Then I actually got the game and never looked at my spreadsheet again.

Never really gave a care to all of this complexity of based judgment on others. Though if they want to play that way, let them. If they want to come on the boards & act like the majority group, then supress them. All of the eltist tend to me the minority, show them what the majority can do.

Though it is funny to see others bully another and think that eltism is correctism. Na, you have a better chance of gaining good karma by drinking a glass of hemlock & saying Hail Hitler.

Though you could make a list of people wishing Bethesda to make a few new rules aginst advertising other games that are not produced by Bethesda or Bethesda supported games. Now that wuld be quite funny.

Haha so many idiots here thinking I'm forcing people to play the way I want them too. I'm simple annoyed at the fact that all I here is how their character will be better because they planned it out, which is stupid because just putting points in as you go will make you basically a god as well.

Yeah. It's kind of like studying the board and counting cards in Candy Land to improve your odds of winning. Really not necessary.

This is exactly why multiple player TES is a bad idea.

Who will have time to build houses with iron ingots when they have to grind levels to compete with that annoying neighbor who plays a snobby high-elf and has a habit of "accidentally" summoning a frost golem over the fence to knock over your ingot house.

Calling characters "toons" This isn't Bugs Bunny.

I see a poster using that term and I usually don't make it to the next word in his post.

I would reword that to:

A few of my friends who play WoW (I have as well) decided when they got skyrim to wait until there was a "talent tree calculator" available online to put their perk points in. Anyone else find this irritating or have friends who did the same thing?

I hate to break this to you, it might be pretty traumatic - but, character planning has long since existed well before WoW or MMORPGs.

Wait for it.

Let it sink in.

Is your mind blown? I think it might be. This is perfectly natural. Character progression, planning, and advancement is a staple of the RPG genre. Astonishing I know!!!!!

Really. My first character became overpowered through normal character development. Didn't consult any online info, didn't look at any dps equations, didn't even do the math on things like the sword critical hit perks. Just "hey, cool, I can improve armor and weapons with smithing and enchanting! You know what? I wear weapons and armor!! That seems like a good idea!!!"

Common sense, the bane of roleplayers.

Obviously you should've been roleplaying someone who considers Enchanting witchcraft and doesn't even pick up enchanted weapons to sell them.

And where's your ten page character backstory?

Yet another thread in which TES fans display their massive superiority complex.

Though there was this guy that played exclusively around the pirate cove area and fished while spamming jokes he pulled off the internet to hurl at passing characters. And he had some pretty cool stories about turtles. very cool guy. kinda shady. definately not your normal WoW player.
Haha, any chance there are any videos of this guy?

Exactly! Games are supposed to be fun. I've never understood this hardcoe crap. Unless by using the term hardcoe people mean, "I play too much Team Fortress and I'm destined to live in my parent's basemant for the rest of my life."

Using it to refer to MMO game-play is even more hilarious. MMOs are glorified chat rooms with poorly designed games wrapped around them and cater to people with poor self-esteem. No one feels like a loser in an MMO. Everyone gets a handout in an MMO. That's what the $15 a month is for...ego-stroking. Some people may refer to that as fun, but it certainly isn't hardcoe.

I imagine most of them wouldn't know what RPG even means (or at least think it only means "Rocket Propelled Grenade").
