Another Major Problem

Wow you have it bad, I feel for you. My mom once blamed her computer's slow running because I downloaded steam and no games. Isn't my fault that the laptop overheats because of dust. <_<

Even though her account is the only one showing signs of an infection, she's still blaming me.

I know your pain, once my mother (a software engineer) had ME on the only computer in the house for 5 years. She insisted that XP would be a downgrade. What really burns me up is she knew we could have just gone sideways to some linux distro. Stupid woman :(

Also in three whole pages why has nobody accused a 15 year old of...oh nevermind I'm sure you know what I mean.

So how, exactly, did she come to that conclusion? If you can't access her account, how could you download a virus?

I feel your pain. Ask your mum what she done before it popped up then, whatever she said go "ahh! thats the problem..." and completely blame it on her, it worked for me :D
and for the Civ disk tell her that if shes so sure that Firaxis (a profesional game company) put a virus on your game disk she should sue them and get lots of money, problem solved!

From what I've read, it looks like the mother is playing right into the babysitter's hands with draconian tactics and sabotage. At this point, resistance is suicide.

There are actually numerous accounts of Spyware Doctor messing with systems, and I'm one of them. Some years back, I installed it and it went ape [censored] for no apparent reason. Forced me to reformat, in fact.

I am using my ps3, but I can't play Morrowind or type at a decent speed on a ps3.

Genric USB keyboard to the rescue!

To the point though, It's a shame that your mother won't even give you the chance to try and fix what she perceives as your wrongdoing. Sad as it is to say, most people will take something they hear at the water cooler and take it as gospel, even when they haven't a clue about the basics of computing. For example: I once had a woman tell me that her co-workers son had "infected her computer when he was doing an update." So therefore, I was unable to do a single damned update to her computer even though they were coming straight from the software developers website. Sad. Sad indeed.

becaus most people on here (not me) know alot about computers, and can combine their experiences with viruses and give him good advice.

I've been using ESET for the past 3 years and never had any problems with viruses. Or at least no problems that I'm aware off. ;) Also, I it seems to use up very few system resources as I've never noticed any drops in performance.

As for your mother, I think it's pretty clear by now that you can't convince her that she is wrong. So don't try. What you need is a person she believes knows more about computers than her and whom she respects. Preferably an advlt. If you can't think of anyone else, maybe a teacher from your school could help?

Recently I had the same thing happen. Only I was smart enough to know the popup was a trojan. You'll have to reset the computer and buy a new antivirus.

EDIT: Your mom knows nothing about it, if she just installed something randomly. A computer whiz she ain't.

I got the impression it was some late 20's early 30's nerd (and not the smart kind... the kind that's arrogant and knows next to nothing about comps etc and makes us look bad)

Alright, I've been (mostly) keeping up with your posts about what's been going on Seti, but I haven't said anything because I didn't think I'd be able to give any worthwhile advice, but honestly this is making me too frustrated not to say anything. If my mom was treating me like that, I'd be staying at a friends house right now.

Anyway, your mom won't listen to you, but would it help if you called someone who's job it is to be good with computers and this kind of thing, like someone who works at an electronics store or something? Then have them explain to your mom what she's doing to her computer, and that your computer games can't hurt it.

My mom is sort of the same way yours is, but not nearly as harsh. If she asks me something about her laptop, there are times when she won't believe what I tell her. However, luckily my dad is also good with computers, so I just go to him to back up what I told her, and of course she always believes him, because she knows he knows what he's talking about. Somehow, I think a similar approach may work with your mom, and it should be something for you to consider.
