Another Major Problem

Resetting the data on the computer at least a week back might work.

Step 1.
Get an account of her and the babysitter's information in regard to computers.
Step 2.
Cross-reference that information on the internet on a computer in a public area e.g. a library.
Step 3.
Print the facts.
Step 4.
Slam the reality bomb into their faces.
Step 5.
If they won't comprehend, blame them for being low brows. And tell them to take a course in computer literacy.

Or you could do some prank that frames the babysitter.

Alright, I've been (mostly) keeping up with your posts about what's been going on Seti, but I haven't said anything because I didn't think I'd be able to give any worthwhile advice, but honestly this is making me too frustrated not to say anything. If my mom was treating me like that, I'd be staying at a friends house right now.

Anyway, your mom won't listen to you, but would it help if you called someone who's job it is to be good with computers and this kind of thing, like someone who works at an electronics store or something? Then have them explain to your mom what she's doing to her computer, and that your computer games can't hurt it.

My mom is sort of the same way yours is, but not nearly as harsh. If she asks me something about her laptop, there are times when she won't believe what I tell her. However, luckily my dad is also good with computers, so I just go to him to back up what I told her, and of course she always believes him, because she knows he knows what he's talking about. Somehow, I think a similar approach may work with your mom, and it should be something for you to consider.

She talked to a guy from Staples(a shop) and he said Civilization III could harm her computer. I think he just didn't want to upset a customer.

I find that hard to believe (I mean I know Staples doesn't always have the best and the brightest) but really?

Well you're boned

This is why I prefer Fry's.

That's ridiculous though. I'm not sure what else to tell you except try another place, and talk to the guy first and make sure he'll tell your mom the truth.

Better idea: Run a background check on the babysitter against municipal databases; ie. Public records.

The problem with this is it's a aggressive/hostile aproach. I don't think it's going to be very productive to use any aggressive tactics on mom, because from what I've read mom apparently is not that much into logic.

Might be valid on the babbysitter though. Or not. Can't say for sure without knowing her.

Wheres the part where you told him "dude I really need you to not mess around right now, please"?

This is getting pretty annoying.

Also, didn't you say your babysitter made a firewall on your computer? He's probably the one that threw a virus on there if he can do that.

If I were you I'd stand/step up to this 'babysitter', last time I checked it was in fact 'babysitter' not 'midteensitter'.

Well, he has 11 and 8 year old brothers. Though why kids that old need a sitter is beyond me.

Staples employee to manager: "I got this woman on the phone asking if a game could hurt her computer! What do I tell her"

Manager: "Tell her yes, it messed it up real bad, and she's gonna need to bring it to us for repair"

Employee "Ma'am, my manger said it's messed up real good, but we have an excellent Computer repair service here in the store"

Employee to manger after hanging up: "That was Easy!"

Well if she has already gone beyond the point where she won't listen to logic and thinks she can apply the Jante law on someone who may very well be more knowledgeable in the computer field than herself, then an aggressive approach may be needed. She might even need to be inculcated with the cold and hard facts of reality to reject her own false one.

Along the lines of what I was thinking also.

How many times have you heard the stories from your friends about some person they messed around with during work?

Edit: @Da Nang
Yes. It seems an aggressive approach to this entire situation would help tremendously.

Tell them to go to a professional computer repair place and they will set your parents straight about everything.

GREAT IDEA!!!!!!! I honestly endorse this, get someone they will believe to tell them that SHE is in the wrong. Seriously though, do it now.

I thought my parents were harsh...

Personally, I would fix it, then create a fake virus to set off in a few days when she knows you havn't been using it. Hell tell her she can password protect it. Then just sit back dwidle your thumbs till it goes off, fix it for her when she asks pointing out that she was wrong and that AGAIN it isn't your fault nor could it have been. Tada problem solved. Hell learn basic VBS and Windows Task Scheduler to let it go off.

Meh, that'll solve nothing. If anything it'll prove her point that he's pulling some "crazy computer voodoo" on her and he'll have to move out...

We all know what the real problem is, and it has nothing to do with any damn computer. And there's nothing we can do about that.
