First, I would like to note that Fallout is one of my favorite game series of all-time, and here is my take on this situation: The game industry is more competitive today than it has ever been, even moreso with the holidays approaching. With the relatively new feature of online connectivity of consoles and the ability to update/patch software, developers can get their products out faster and work on issues as they come up. From a business perspective, had Fallout: New Vegas been released after Black Ops and Fable 3, sales would have been significantly reduced in my opinion. Even if it had waited to be tested more, many bugs/glitches could still have been an issue, requiring a patch. Yeah, it really svcks to have been waiting and anticipating the games release to finally get it and have issues that were game-killers and then wait and wait for a patch. But I seriously doubt Bethesda is going to risk its reputation and possible future revenues of the Fallout series by releasing an unperfect game and just leave it as is. Given the amount of negative feedback it has recieved from consumers on just this forum, I'm sure they would want to release a patch that is going to have a substantial impact on the games performance and mechanics rather than just some quick fixes that may still leave many issues. Also this game is available for 3 systems, and I'm not a programmer, but I'm sure the patches, etc. aren't interchangeable among all 3. Considering the depth and scope of Fallout: New Vegas, I can certainly understand how fixing many of the bugs in the game could be a daunting task, and how thouroughly testing it could take considerable time. Another thing is that these forums are serving the function that they are intended to - offer a place were people can voice their feedback and opinions of the game, sure, it may get monotonous to keep seeing the same complaints, etc., but as I said, that is what these forums are for. And regardless of how disappointed or frustrated we are right now with the game, we are still big enough fans to register to the forum and voice our opinions and wait for the patch release. Its not going to change our overall love of the series or affect our future purchases of Fallout games and content. Look at games like Driv3r and Mercenaries 2 that had great anticipation of their releases, and were seemingly released simply for the sake of being released. They were bug and glitch ridden, granted Driv3r wasn't available for the newest gen systems capable of online patching, but Mercenaries 2 was, and it was pretty much left as is - and to be honest, even with those poor experiences with those games, should another Driver or Mercenaries come out, I would still probably buy them - because they were still good games.
