Anybody getting tired of waiting for the patch?

Post » Sat Feb 19, 2011 7:53 am

Right now my new vegas is a piece of plastic on a shelf.

Quite right. But I would like to add it is a $50 piece of plastic on my shelf which, to me and most people, is a lot of money for a shelf decoration. I really am starting to realize now that I should have held off and just gotten Fable 3 and just wait for them to fix their faulty product. Well, live and learn I suppose.

I'm tired as well of the regugitated excuses and delay tactics. I've given Bethesda 3 chances: Oblivion, Fallout 3 and NV are all bought at launch. The first 2 were relatively better as I have the fortune of not meeting a large number of bugs on release date. But NV truly requires talent to be launched in the state it is in. The first patch breaks some things that were fine before the patch. Examples include BoS Bunker locked, which prevents acquisition of a Dean's Electronics magazine, and talking to these triggers - Old Lady Gibson, QM Mayes, Doctor Henry and Ignico - do NOT trigger the first leg of ED-E's quest. This is stacked with Arcade, Raul and Veronica's quests that are also glitched. To pile up the list of bugs I'm still seeing, ED-E and Radscorpions can clip into the ground at Mesquite Mountains Camp Site. Of course the first patch also did nothing about the train tunnel with 2 Lockpick 100 doors - as anyone who has unlocked either one door can attest, there is one huge hole in the middle that makes players fall through, teleporting them to one of the entrances.

I will NEVER buy another Bethesda/Obsidian product at launch. Even if your CE comes with artbooks and collectible figures for free as goodwill in future, I'll take a working game over cheap "Made in China" plastics anyday. And you only get USD $20 out of me from on, no more paying full price on launch.

One thing is sure:

The game was sloppy, considering the time it takes to get the patch, this is proof that the game was done in a hurry.

It's a shame, I heard about spoiled children and other whiners, all this has nothing to do.

I'm in the field of sales, if I am working like that, well I can assure you that I would close my shop.

Customers are unhappy and it is right that their words are heard.

Do not we say that the customer is King ...

They obviously rushed the game to the shelves knowing many of the bugs. You just dont miss this many unless you never tested it. So having said that do you really want them to rush ANY patch out?
Im frustrated as hell but if they released a rushed patch and it didn't fix everything or made some things worse I would be even madder.

I've been as patient as I possibly can.

There's two ways for a company to keep its fans/customers happy.

1) fix the problem
2) promise REALISTIC deadlines for when they intend to release key fixes

They've done neither. They were supposedly 'testing' the comprehensive patch to ensure it was fool-proof. That was supposed to take 'a few weeks.' Its a month later or more.

Meanwhile, I'm sure they haven't taken any employees away from the development team responsible for creating the $10-a-pop add-ons that will be conveniently and TIMELY released around the holiday season.

Their priority is in making MORE money. Not fixing the core game which we already dropped $60 on. This is the lowest of the low in customer care.

I'm sorry...but I'm a man of principle and I can't buy another Bethesda game until someone steps up to the plate and apologizes to the thousands of people who bought this broke game.

This is where I'm at on this issue as well. I do understand that quality fixes and patches take time and hopefully they've learned from their mistake and will put more care and attention to detail into this patch than what went into the release of the game, but they could have handled this situation SO much better than they have. When the game was widely revealed to be a broken product and every Facebook post they made was followed by angry comment after angry comment, you would think that Bethesda would have the decency to publicly apologize for the trouble. I have yet to see what I would consider a formal much less heartfelt apology. They have angered so many people over this, yet their PR/marketing department continues to feel that the best course of action is to pretend like it doesn't exist aside from letting us know that they are in fact working on a patch. That is absolutely TERRIBLE PR work. Obsidian and Bethesda should have both issued a public apology, and in this case followed up with some form of compensation such as a discount on the first DLC or something of the like for everyone who purchased the game before the still upcoming patch.

I fully realize that many people have played this game without the slew of problems that others have had, and they are very fortunate. My experience has been somewhere in the middle - I've had a few save corruptions, a few lockouts, a few (verified) unwarranted faction-related attacks, and a TON of freezes. I've still been able to complete the game once on the NCR side, and am thankful for that.

Regardless of those who have made it through without issue there are many more that have had an unacceptable amount of problems, and for this Obsidian/Bethesda should both apologize sincerely and make it KNOWN.

I'd at least like more updates. Going weeks without news makes me feel like they are disregarding their fans. If given the option, I'd return the game and then rebuy it in a few months when they finally have all of the bugs out. Yeah, this upcoming patch is going to solve a lot of our issues, but I highly doubt all of the bugs will be gone. I restarted twice before I knew there was a bug problem and I am not looking forward to restarting a third time. It is sitting on my shelf collecting dust, doing nothing except giving me a bad taste in my mouth. I am a female, full-time college student and have two jobs, I had saved up the money for New Vegas and set aside time for it. If I'd have known, I would have bought a game like Fable 3 (it was eventually gifted to me) to play while I waited for the bugs to be worked out. In the future, I won't be buying any Fall Out games on release night. I'll give it a few weeks of no bugs being reported and then still cautiously blow $60 on it.

Bethesda and their associates who worked on this game really did it in for themselves. While game testing has been reduced due to the ability to release patches, it still is not an excuse. I understand that it is going to take a while for a good patch to come out and am not angered at the time it is taking, just that it had to take place. A delayed game is only delayed for so long, a bad game is bad forever.

/end rant

It's pretty sad. Lionhead already released a patch fixing game corruption issues in Fable 3 and it came out after New Vegas. They announced they found out what was corrupting game saves about a month ago. Before they announced a firm release for the stupid patch, they announced DLC for December 17th.

I'll think twice before purchasing any Bethesda or Obsidian software. I should have bought some other game and picked up New Vegas in the budget bin next year.

We have been assured the patch will be released before any DLC comes out.

I personally want them to release the patch when it is ready and won't cause more problems and that does take a bit of time. I don't anticipate much longer. Of course, anything can go wrong in the final testing and approval and distribution process.

If this is true they have 18 days from today, but I'll bet they combo pack the DLC and comprehensive patch together for 800 Microsoft Points.

This is the best post I've ever seen in regards to this mess. If they apologize publicly after the patch, they can win some of us back. If not, it will be a PR failure on an epic level. Better updates and apologies in the meantime could have eased the anger as well, but instead they let the flames burn hotter and hotter.

Definetely agree, keeping us in the dark is only adding to the anger. and an apology would do wonders in showing that they understand the frustration we have all been going through. but of course thats not likely as its already been about a month and a half...

1) We all knew that handing the Gamebryo engine to Obsidian would result in a bug-ridden mess.
I am a fan of both the engine and Obsidian but we all saw this coming as soon as the game was announced.

2) New Vegas got by internal and external QA/cert/testing and onto store shelves.
Yes we should lay blame at Obsidian/Bethesda/ZeniMax for releasing New Vegas in such a broken state but we should also blame Sony/Microsoft for their inept QA/cert/testing processes.

3) Microsoft/Sony like to charge developers/publishers for any update/patch beyond a certain amount.
This is a policy which was enacted to keep the PC model of unfinished releases out of the console realm and to promote generally 'finished products'. This, of course, has failed miserably.

The reason why those three things are important to note is because while the New Vegas bugs are bad they aren't really that rare these days. More and more we find that, industry-wide, the internal and external QA/cert/testing processes are archaic, slow, and wholly inept. Microsoft and Sony even go as far as to exacerbate the problem by A) charging after a certain threshold and B ) relying upon their own more archaic, even slower, and willfully oblivious QA/cert/testing processes.

So the developer/publisher either gets it right within a small amount of patches/updates or they have to start shelling out cash to the platform holders. And that's where we are now. The people behind New Vegas need to get the bugs squashed with as few patches as possible and the platform holders wouldn't exactly mind that not happening and raking in more cash. (all the while the rigged Microsoft/Sony QA/cert/testing processes hold-up the patch/update release dates while generally being a hindrance instead of helpful)

I'm not tired of waiting. I own Dragon Age Origins on the 360, and compared to that waiting a month or two is no big deal. And when the game was still broken seven months after it came out, the forums looked kind of like this one does now, lots of "where's my patch? I want it NOW NOW NOW" and "I'll never buy a game made by this company again". By that point I could understand the anger and frustration, and I agreed with the people who said that.

Here I don't. It hasn't been that long yet, and all you're doing by complaining about the lack of a patch is irritating people. They're working on it, give them time to actually get it right, rather than rushing out some shoddy, unfinished or untested mess which doesn't work properly (again).

If this game is still broken in three months time, I will join the people shouting "where's the patch?", but at this point it seems a little premature.

^ premature?? you give it 3 months time.. that means theres one more month before you say where's the patch.

I've had dragon age. and it's had minor glitches compared to game breaking glitches that this game has had. Also i dont believe the first patch of DA took 2 months. i think it was out a month after the game was out.

Haha, i love the guy who says the outrage is premature.

I imagine that same guy getting mugged in the park and standing there for a few hours and telling his friends who are urging him to call the police, "let's just a wait a few hours, they might come back and give me my wallet back"

"Just a couple more hours, I don't want to cause a fuss."

You guys are unbelievable and it's not possible you've experienced the game breaking glitches that make playing this game impossible.

For the big bugs that make the game unplayable, my grace period is a week tops. We're 5 weeks beyond that now. This came came out on Oct 19th for the love of god!

Nothing excuses the state in which it was released
Nothing excuses the utter and complete lack of communication by the developers (No, I don't count the 8 times they said 'it's coming soon', because soon is relative and it tells us nothing. Obviously their idea of soon and mine are not the same)
and nothing excuses the complete and total lack of action on their part. If they focused all their resources on fixing this game, it would be fixed by now. At least the major problems. But as we've all seen, they are hard at work on something else, and that is a slap in the face to every one of you. Some of you take it and say thanks i'll have another, which is baffling, but I for one will not buy another product from them, ever.

I have some self respect and I won't be treated this way by any company. The reason we are treated this way is because of the apologists who blindly give them their money regardless. There are plenty of options out there and I was so excited for New Vegas and have been a very longtime fan, but this whole experience has turned me off forever to these companies and sadly, my absolute favorite game.

I have had the game since release and have been fortunate that I haven't experienced any major game breaking bugs. The biggest annoyances have been followers walking into lakes or getting stuck on rocks, enemies sinking into the ground or getting stuck in rocks and a my character's arms coming over his head when I bring a two-handed weapon up to my eye. No freezes or corruptions. I am playing the game on a Slim and it is installed. To be honest though I am only 20-30 hours in and still wandering the Mojave. I have been dragging my feet and playing other recent releases while waiting for a patch.

Since release I have had at least 3 updates of 3 - 4 MB size. I assume these aren't patches or minor fixes?

Another thing to consider for those that complain NV owners are being too impatient: Imagine you paid full price for the game and have had to wait for the patch because they experienced a game ending bug. Many retailers are now selling (or have sold) the game for $39 as part of Black Friday or holiday sales. Should those people be punished $20 for buying the game day one? A friend of my has had the game since release and refuses to open it until they fix it. He could have save $20 too. Bethesda could at least make the next DLC free as a sign of good faith.

holy crap! are you kidding me? give them time to get it right? they should have gotten it right BEFORE it was released. this game is BROKEN for many people. they didnt pay 60 bucks to stare at a game on thier shelf, they paid to play. if this was anyother product on the market THERE WOULD BE A RECALL!!!!

edit: there were what, 5 testers in the end credits of the game. i literally LOL when i saw that.
