Anyone else find it difficult to play as the opposite gender

Post » Sat Jun 09, 2012 2:02 pm

So when you play, say, Half-Life 2.... do you think that you are Gordon Freeman, or are you just running him around? (Or replace with whichever FP/action game you've played...)

re: all the people being offended that other folks might like Frazetta / Vallejo / Conan - style "fantasy". (i.e, sixy/revealing/etc). Why does it bother you how someone else plays the game? I find this baffling. (I mean, yeah.... any number of mod armors can get me rolling my eyes. But it certainly doesn't effect me that someone else might use them.)
Half life 2 does really offer any RP oppertunities. however yeah you play Gordon Freeman so you are gorden freeman. :P However Since in FPS' the character is just a mask for cutscenes, the yare only as good as the personal FPS skills.

All marragible NPC are BI in that respect. yo ucan have a gay marrage with Farkus for instance, just try it out yourself wear a mara amulet and talk to him.

i know, this was not my point. i know that they are all bisixual. but males do not flirt with you. marriable females do flirt with you with making compliments. that's what i meant. they worked more on male character gameplay.

I've never attempted to play as a female in Skyrim or any previous TES game.

Neither have I, and I don't plan to in the future.

Yeah I always play male. Feel free to flame me, but you guys who roll females and put them in skimpy little dresses creep me the hell out, big time.

Never been a problem. You're playing a character and though it's nice to look at yourself from time to time the game is meant to be experienced from a first person perspective.

I think this was more does to poor voice actor scripting. IE the ywrote everything expecting you to play the the "nord warrior" you see on al lthe hype. Since the females only have "one line" they use it on you no matter what gender you are.

Nope. I'm a male who always plays female characters. In fact, I can't even play games that force me to play a male character.

Let me put it this way. I created the Gothic Breton race. Those were my textures and a special edit to the face shape to create my character. I shared that race, and the first thing that happened was naked, sixual pics were posted. It felt like I personally was being violated in a way. The lesson for me was not to get too personally invested in anything I was going to release for others to use. So in that way, the actions of others did affect me. The way for me to get over it was to make something I considered "better" and keep it to myself.

In any other circumstance, the way others play their games does not affect me, except when I end up seeing pictures I'd rather not while browsing the internet. In that case I just use AdBlock to get the image off my screen or move on to something else.

its all about immersion factor.

-player is so fascinated by the game, he/she just wants to experience it for him/herself - same gender or else.
-player is fascinated by the game, picks any role he/she always wanted to play - any gender
-player is not so fascinated by the game, pick better looking - female
-player is not particularly fascinated by the game - any gender

I seen alot of nice faces with that race. So good job on that part. Also why are you surpirsed? Nexus Images is almost a fetish shop of sorts. If your releasing to the public you have to expect this type of thing.

I personally play a female character now just cause I don't feel like staring at a guy for my whole playthrough. I don't think of the character as "me" but as a character in a story. Now, I don't dress my character in dresses and prance around town shopping but if someone else did that would be up to them. Their game.. They can do what they want.

Not really, it doesn't feel any more strange than playing as a mage in a fantasy world, and just as you get used to the latter you get used to the former. My characters aren't 'me'.

I played with a female Imperial all the way through Oblivion, I had a male as well but she seemed a better fighter so stuck with her. Also I play in 3rd person and the Oblivion male seemed a bit gay the way he walked. Skyrim males are much more rugged. I had a male Nord for 192 hours then tried various heroes and heroines for around 30 to 50 hours each and now back with a male High Elf. The women are cool to watch in battle and finishing moves but to role play I like to use a male unless they're too stupid looking like that boy in FFX.

For me its a problem, whenever i try to play a female character i just end up feeling like an idiot, so i was wondering, am i the only one who feels like this?
For me, it's the opposite.

Not all male players play female characters to get their rocks off. I play female characters because I find them easier to care about and I love seeing a strong woman kick ass. Those are the characters I always root for in movies, so I'm happy when a game gives me a chance to play a character like that. It's more of a protective instinct than anything else. I don't think it's weird or unseemly. That's like saying it's wrong to root for Ripley in Alien. What's wrong with wanting to tell a story like that? I don't identify with my characters as being 'me', though, so maybe that's part of the difference. They're always like characters in novels or movies. There's always a little bit of distance so that I can stay objective about them and make interesting choices for them. And those 'clothing mods' (if you can still call them that) are just tacky and tasteless. I'd rather wrap my character up in several layers of fur.

Draken was a great game on PC and the PS2 game, Tomb Raider is another fave series.

in all honesty i could be a six-less blob (some would say that's already the case but i digress) and it wouldn't matter. out in the real world, gender/race/class issues never made any sense to me. we're all people, and all people stink first thing in the morning. they mean even less in a game.

but that said, sometimes it's nice to see some jigglage. warm up the frozen north a bit. npc's can't jump. white or otherwise

i would be more inclined to play a female if they didnt make it to where even at there strongest build character creation stilll makes female characters look like a gentle breeze would knock them on there backside

Drakan (only had the PS2 version) and the first Tomb Raider are two of my all time favorite games. Mirror's Edge is in my top 5; the main character, Faith, is played in first person. I enjoyed playing that game just as much.

i do in most games, unless the pc is voiced, i dunno why but it seems like in most games i play me when there isn't a voice, and the character when there is. I played a chick in da2 but not da:o, and i've got a paragon playthrough with femshep in mass effect

Strangely enough, it depends what type of character I'm playing, for example:

warrior - male
mage - male
archer/sneak - female.

It's more down to the outfits than the character type. I think warrior armour looks [censored] on females, whereas, nightingale, DB and Thieves Guild armour looks [censored] on males (apart from thin male dunmers and Wood Elves). As for the mage stuff, i just prefer playing as a male breton, with a knotted beard as it looks cool.
