This thread is now about men, who fail to understand women.

If I'm gonna be staring at a pixellated ass for hours upon end, it might as well be a female ass

Yep, wouldn't be a female because it feels wrong somehow. This game has too many females in it anyway, it's like women's lib in Skyrim.

I've never attempted to play as a female in Skyrim or any previous TES game.

No problem for me. I almost always play as female characters (mostly Khajiit).

Since the game barely registers that you are female, and if you don't play in 3rd person I really can see how you'd tell the differance. All the quests and combat are the same. *shrugs*

if you look at threads like the ones where everyone can post his characters, you would see that most of the players here are playing female characters. i for myself can't play females either. feels weird to play a female character as a male person. also the whole game is mainly designed for male characters. never saw a male marriage person flirt with me, but the females ones do, even if you are female yourself.

You're not the only one who feels like that.

Many polls in the past on this forum "do you play male or female". Typical results is 80% male. Pretty similar for "do you play same gender".
Another common comment is that people who see the character as being "them" tend to play the same gender. People who just see the character as some movie/book/etc character that they're pushing around, don't always.

Personally, I don't have a problem with it, and am frequently surprised at how many people say they do have problems with it. I've never seen a character that I'm playing as an avatar of "me".... it's just a game piece I'm moving around on the game board. So it being male, female, a slime mold, a demon, whatever - none of those things are reflections on who "I" am.

All marragible NPC are BI in that respect. yo ucan have a gay marrage with Farkus for instance, just try it out yourself wear a mara amulet and talk to him.

See, thats why I have a problem with the player/character seperation in these games. when your personal skill govern the success of your character you almost can't help but have the "I play myself and not my character" thing.

Assuming I have a choice, I haven't played a game as a male character since Underworld 2. I think that was what, 15 years ago?

Seems cliché. Seems more amusing and appealing for an incredibly feminine woman to beat the crap out of things, as opposed to a huge muscular man.

I feel the same if I try to play a male character. I think for me and possibly others who feel this way, we may be projecting ourselves into the game onto our characters, at least in part. I know that's why it makes me angry if I find my mod creations used to make pixel porm.

Edit: Ninja'd.. some posts were added before I pressed send. Also, my signature urls are wrong and don't change even when I update my profile. Argh! >:(

^ this. I find it funny that since this game's storyline kind of expects you to be a man (for the most part), going in there as a fragile petite lady and then shouting them all over the place is second-to-none. My friend has a nord female, who is basically a man in a woman's body. I die laughing at her bad-assery

That's like saying nobody should play as an Argonian because they're a human.

Yeah... I got to say given the startling amount of abuse one gets as a Khajiit - "sneak thief! - the nords are surprisingly enlightened gender equality-wise. It's not like you can't join the legion, or the blacksmiths all have Pirelli calendars up in their forges.
Hell, the only time they come on to you - cat, lizard, elf or whatever you like - is when you disport yourself with one of those saucy amulets of Mara.

The weird thing is how little weirdness goes on.

I'm all for the playing the game how you want. Some people put themselves in the game, some role-play, or some simply make a joke out of it and have fun. But I'll agree those mods are getting a little out of hand. Like "sixy forsworn armor" yadiyadiyada. I mean really? Do you play the game or just stare at your character?

To be fair, the game can only attempt to be realistic. Details like that are in the backs of their mind and it won't be for a few years that games are THAT immersive. Counting down the days though!

So when you play, say, Half-Life 2.... do you think that you are Gordon Freeman, or are you just running him around? (Or replace with whichever FP/action game you've played...)

re: all the people being offended that other folks might like Frazetta / Vallejo / Conan - style "fantasy". (i.e, sixy/revealing/etc). Why does it bother you how someone else plays the game? I find this baffling. (I mean, yeah.... any number of mod armors can get me rolling my eyes. But it certainly doesn't effect me that someone else might use them.)
