Anyone else prefer Fallout 3 to New Vegas

Post » Sun Mar 06, 2011 8:47 am

Both games were great in their own regards. Having this topic come up over and over is much like beating a dead horse then reviving it so you can beat it to death. Some people think Fallout 3 was better and many others think Fallout: New Vegas is better.

Personally? I like New Vegas better. It has so much more content. The idea of trudging around in 'Bland Cave A' with 'Creature A' in it, then going to 'Bland Cave B' and killing 'Creature B' has virtually no appeal to me. Fallout 3's greatest locations in my mind weren't the numerous generic ones but the unique areas like the Dunwich Building and the Smithsonian. Other people quite obviously feel differently than me though.

Fallout 3 had it's merits but New Vegas just scratches that RPG itch better.

In my opinion.

I prefer Fallout 3, and I saw this day coming from miles away. Morrowind fans eventually came to pick on the new game, Fallout 3 fans have too, and so will Oblivion fans when TES V is released. It's a never-ending cycle.

Agreed. FONV feels like a DLC to Fallout 3. Aside from companions that you end up killing anyway, there's absolutely nothing different about this game than the last. They could have at least given us an improved character creator. Same old crappy one as before. Small map and really, really, really (did I mention really?) short story line that seems written by a high schooler. FONV is a DLC delivery device aimed at pushing XBox sales (and the wallet svcking LIVE content) for the holidays.

This one is not for love of the game, it's for love of money. It shows.

I think most people would see the connection there. Not so much irony though. It just proved your point.

There are always going to be die-hard fans of products or traditionalists pissed off because something they liked, changed.

Lol. Did you even play the game? If you did, did you play with your eyes/ears closed? If NV is DLC it's the biggest, most comprehensive, most detailed DLC ever made by a ridiculously huge margin.

Really?

I can't disagree with this more. And not only because the "storyline" of this game is more than just the strict mainquestline.

Written by a highschooler? Some highschooler there.

I like that rationale (is that spelt right?) Mine didn't really snap this time.

There are a few tricks to playing in a sandbox, I learned the hard way playing Morrowind. After hundreds of hours in that game my only wish was that I could start all over a-fresh but this time knowing how to play.

Nope.

EDIT: Allright, I liked F3(Heavily modded) and it's explorism aspect. It was a good gaming experience. But NV just trumphs it for me. Story, characters, and as a "lol old geezer nostalgia crap" guy I really get the vibe from teh older Fallouts. Hell yeah.

Fallout NV is closer to FO2 than FO3 (though its still more like FO3). So far it feels right for the series. What I've played of it I liked, and unlike FO3, I was not annoyed with it inside the first hour.

The new ammo and crafting is a great improvement, and overall, I find it more believable. Fallout 3 has one thing up on NV ~but it shouldn't  (though I still liked it).
Fallout 3 had a fantastic PA landscape and general art design; and it was totally [unforgivably] out of place... being 200 years late; Would have been perfect had they rebooted the series and set theirs 50 years after the bombs.

as i play this game i cant help thinking F3 is better,i could play F3 for hours no problem but with NV in about a hour i get bored,i find F3 a much more enjoyable game and has much better gameplay, sure theyve made some improvements but theres also alot of disapointments in New Vegas

There are a couple of things that I don't like. VATS is somewhat nerfed. I had to turn the kill cam off completely due to animations sometimes sticking. I hate the clipping into the ground when you are climbing around. Both of those will probably be fixed by patches...hopefully. I find the desert to be deviod of any really neatly laid out areas. It seems that some of it was too rushed. In FO3, while there were many areas that looked the same, you could find an office building or other place , that had some really neat layouts inside. One place had a chess board set up with all of the pieces on the board. I thought that was really neat.
NV has more dialogue and more options to resolve problems slightly differently. That makes up for all of the other problems.
Lastly, why should I get extra experience for killing the 50th bug, mutant or any other critter. Why should I get more experience for continuing to use a handgun etc etc. You need the perks so I guess that is a trade off. It does give your character more depth, but it somewhat annoys me.
Just my opinion so far....but I still love it.

I liked the do X and get this perk and challenge done. It adds more depth to the game. Mostly I use guns but I tried the enregy weapons challenges turns out I like energy weapons more than guns. I plan to make a pure energy character soon after finishing up this character.

I'm sure some people do.

I mean, I'm sure some people prefer Batman and Robin to The Dark Knight.

I think that FNV slaughters Fallout 3. In Fallout 3, I was railroaded unto ONE path!! What the heck! I wanted to join the enclave and nuke those idiots at the BOS!

So in this game, I could choose who I wanted to support! I could even support myself! How many games allow you to do that?

WOW my money is on you not even playing it.

I wasn't expecting much to begin with, it being made by Obsidian. :yuck:

This should really be in series discussion because if you put it in the NV section most people will say NV, if you put it in the FO3 section most people will say FO3.
