Anyone else wish they could change their character's looks?

Post » Tue Jun 12, 2012 10:32 am

It wouldn't harm anything and i highly doupt it would be hard to add into the game... I would like to be able to do this, especially since half of your face is in shadow at the start of the game and you only get one chance to make your character.....

No excuse why they cant add something.

I started playing kingdom of Amalur: Reckoning the other day, noticed that in the house I got, there's a mirror which allows you to change your hairstyle, hair colour, piercings, and tattoos. Seems like a pretty good way to do this, hope it comes out as part of a dlc or something, I play on PC so it's no trouble for me, but I see no reason for console users to be left out in the cold.

I want the option to change the hair at least... that way my character can sport a different hairstyle every now and then.

Right now I think she's got lice... :ermm:

It would be great to somehow combine this for short intervals during the Dark Brotherhood quests, and people wouldn't recognize you even if they've already seen you before. Then I'd finally be able to really roleplay, instead of always having to imagine the whole thing.

I thought one hair colour was brown once, it turned out to be grey in game. Hair/Beard/Dirt editing would be nice

Originally, I was going to say that players shouldn't be allowed to change their eye color, face, gender and age without having to use cheats, but now I say screw it. Just give them the option in the menu to change it if they want to. That wouldn't be too hard. It's not like it would take them a billion hours to implement. Elderscrolls isn't like most games. It can last forever thanks to mods. Because of this, players should get the option to change their appearance if they get bored of it. As I've said before it's not hard for them to implement. It's only an option, if you don't want to do it, then don't do it. You'd have to be pretty uptight to complain about having an option.

It would be nice to have some type of npc or place (maybe at inns) where you could get a haircut/shave/bath, and just generally change hair/beard/dirt if you wanted to. It would be kinda strange to go to a "barber" and come back with a longer hairstyle or take a bath and "add" dirt, but some decent system could be worked out.

Also, what about NPCs? Your in game "wife" might need a bath... Adrianne Avenicci, for example, might make a decent wife, hard worker, good Nord woman, and she might even be pretty hot if she took a bath once in a while. ;)

For Elderscrolls 6, I don't like the idea of adding dirt through a customization menu. Players should just get dirty over time. They should get mud, blood... all over them and they should be able to get wet. Armor should get rusty, dented, lose it's shine and get stained as it wears down and armor should wear down as it did in past games. Then when you repair it, it looks bran new again.

Tattoos are permanent without laser surgery removal. And there is no tatoos in the game just war paints. If you want a hair cut, you should ask your maid or wife to cut your hair. This is how it was done in the old days.

Wow, how limited the imagination is. This is a fantasy game with magic spells, alchemy, and enchanting. I'm sure there is some way to add this feature to the game.

I wouldn't think players would limit themselves and their thinking to, "How it was done in the old days". Wait, was the with or without magic spells, alchemy, and enchantments. Not trying to start a war, but it seems a little limiting to even make such a statement(just an observation).

What is wrong with a barbershop and the idea that tattoos are NOT permanent especially in a fictitious world with magic, dragons, alchemy and such?

I would agree with the OP, it would be.nice.to have as an option and once again, not everybody has to use it of course. I myself would use it. Not to have a total makeover for my character, but to change their appearance, hairstyle, tatts, warpaint, etc.

Yeah, neither do I. In a perfect system, your PC would get 'dirtier' or bloodier, etc. through time/travel/adventuring and your hair/beard would grow longer, giving you the option of short/med/long styles depending on how long it had been since your last haircut... I was just trying to come up with a feasibly simple game mechanic that could be used for the present game.

Also, now that I think about the comment just made, they way they implemented body paint vs. tattoos, I wouldn't be surprised to see some type of official DLC allowing you to change your body paint/hair/facial hair. I don't know about scars, but like joliettejake07 just said, it's a magical world, so who knows. I picked a scar to use on my character to give him some more uniqueness, and I don't plan on changing that, though I'd consider changing the hair/beard/face paint.

For TES6 it could be possible to think about simulations elements like having your face get dirty/bloody and also get permanent scars if you don't seek treatment in time.

It seems to be only a logical follow up to already having simulation elements like having a wife. People like this sort of thing, but it could be smart to have it as an on/off switch in the option menu. Unfortunartly I (and many others) have also been asking for a optional hardcoe mode. It just seems Bethesda wants to provide 'one best way' instead of offering limited options for certain things.

This also makes me fear they will not add a feature to change appearance to Skyrim. Which is a huge loss for me, and everyone else it seems. The last 15 comments have all been positive to such a feature, and in general it appears 80% of the people really want such a feature, 10% doesn't care and only 10% is against it. But why should Bethesda lissen to those grinches? They don't have to use it if they don't want to, same with fasttraveling. It is in the game and I choose to ignore it.

Right, it would be nice if we could customize not just our own character but also our followers. It is such an easy thing to add, the option to do so is already in the game. It isn't like this is Fable where NPC's clothes are part of them. It seems Bethesda is missing out on scoring some points with their fans by not including this in their games. Easy to add for those that like it, and it won't negatively effect fans who decide not to use it.

I didn't know world of warcraft allowed you to change your face after the innitial creator.

However the way I see it, every RPG should allow this. At the very least allow us to change our hairstyle as it is an essential part of how we look. RPG are about progression and the way you look should reflect that. So you can start out as a cleancut newbie but as you learn and grow you should be able to switch to a big northern beard to rleflect your new lifestyle.

I know this isn't essential for every player, some just immediatly decide upon their character's personality at the start and don't change it. However some do, and they can greatly benefit from this. Hopefully it will be part of the first DLC. Easy to add, and people who don't use it can just ignore it.

Only reason. So don't play Skyrim. Why are you playing it? Do you want to age and see that your hair grows as well/ Do you also need to go and take a piss and turd too now and then in the game? I would rather leave somethings out, if not necessary.

Um I hope you realize that in both Oblivion, Morrowind, and even Fallout right before the tutorial ends they ask you "Are you sure you want this to be your character?" And you can change what you messed up. Skyrim took this feature out so I have to resort to either continuing with the character that I messed up on or restarting through a cutscene that I cannot skip through.

Yes, I find that I am looking at my character's appearance all the time so naturally I find it is necessary to be able to change it... No I think Bethesda shouldn't waste the time on things like that when they could be using that time to make quests better. Seriously, how often are you looking at your character's appearance in Skyrim? it isn't like Oblivion where you actually got to see what they looked like up close.

I'd love to be able to change my face point and hair style. It seems perfectley reasonable to me that my Nord could wipe off his face paint and reapply it when he wants or change his hairstyle from time to time. I've stopped giving my chars facepaint now in case I don't like it after a few hours and can't change it.

People change over time. Hair gets longer, scars and wrinkles make themselves known, ink fades, and you should be covered in dirt by the time you finish a battle. It makes sense for an RP standpoint that we should have some limited control over our appearance in the game. Of course, this might've not been an issue if Skyrim gave us a second chance to fix our appearance. I'm not going to play a character that doesn't fit my standards.

I made this point earlier and you're exactly right. Like my character Rashir Nashdia, as he gets hardier I want to make him look hardier as if his adventures are twisting him. Aserun is bitter and a drunk and it only makes sense as he gets older he appears older.
