I can see the roads fine, if the clouds were not in the way. That is my only complaint, the clouds.

Oh, and not being able to zoom in. At least on mine, the zoom is just slightly closer.

the idea of a 3d map was great, and is good for the most part, the only gripe i have is its affected by the actual weather, Could cover on the map is annoying.. and checking the map at night time is annoying as well, as the world becomes dark.

Personally I'm not feeling much love for the map because of the clouds.

What I would like to see is, when your character goes along a road, it should show behind him and stay on the map from then on. Kind of like the towns you can see, but they're black, because you haven't been there and can't fast travel to them.

Any roads you haven't traveled on should stay off the map till you explore them.

I go off-road often, for example going back to Helgen, then go around it on the left side, and go as far as you can, there are some interesting dungeons; one road that ends at the border with the next state/country - with a building across the road preventing you from traveling there, there's also a tiny road that goes across the mountains toward Riften (?sp), etc. But the roads not being on the map causes a lot of double- and triple-going-around in circles. Also back there somewhere found a place with a dead couple; he had left a note saying some dragon was flying around but probably wouldn't harm them. Well, it burned and killed them, but getting the note got me close to the dragon's location, and I killed it, and there was a dragon-word wall.

This game is full of suprises.

Maybe someone will mod it. I'll even volunteer my time to get all the roads on it if someone needs help with that since I play every day.

I like it. I really didn't care for the Oblivion Map because of the small size.

I hate to sound like one of those jerks who complain about everything, but I find that the world map isn't exactly funtionable. It looks cool, but the roads aren't exactly visible. I think it'd be neat if Bethesda added a feature that allowed you to taggle a highligth on the roads or something along those lines. Any thoughts?

At first, I was just gonna say no. And, maybe I should have but I now have to say 'no' for a different reason. Never noticed the lack of roads... PC... and I also have the map stuck on the wall above my monitor. So, to make this short... no.

Yeah well, the world map is one of the very worst things I've ever seen in an RPG. We talked about that a hundret times already in all those "User Interface" threads.

It's not functional, it's ugly, it's not fitting the game, ...
The maximum zoom-level is a bad joke, that white on white (clouds over snow) is ridiculous, the roads are not there, and a sattelite picture does not belong to a fantasy RPG.

I just wish Bethesda, instead of deciding they could do better than everyone else (or whatever caused it), just used the same type of map that every other game designer has used for decades: one that lets you see where you've been and where you haven't. Interior maps continue to be even more useless.

If my char was exploring, she'd DRAW a map ... not take overhead photos! Who needs rubble on a map ... just drawings like the Jarls have of the region with roads and locations uncovered as my character discovers them is all I want.

I'm beginning to think no Bethesda game will ever have decent maps.

Yeah it's crap, the first time when I wanted to get to the greybeards I was walking wrong way for about an hour and didn't know which way to go for another hour, until I've used this path showing spell

Yes. It lags. And it isn't functional. I would have much preferred a map like the one I got with the game that is hanging on my wall.

I actually really like the map, excluding the clouds. But better zooming, rotating and panning functions would be really nice. Luckily I have a PC.

Maybe we have two versions or maybe im blind as a bat.. but roads are not viewable on the map only one blurry line here and there that doesn't even outline the entire main road(s).

Again if the local map was used as the global map that would be nice hopefully someone will mod such in and it can be zoomed in and out. see this http://cloud.steampowered.com/ugc/613845918300096774/F1B5BB41857229AECDF9023CBCCE360DA4FCD32E/. Where I am standing is a road no questions about you can dictate it from a tree or a mountain slope, the blackness is actual fog of war so you must explore to see it not some pretty clouds that prove no purpose at all, and seperate cell entrances are on the map either it be a city, house, or cave. Best of all its more of a Morrowind+Oblivion style map vs a 3D Todd's UAV and All seeing eye that would fit better in a modern setting.

I like it I rarely used maps in the previous TES games as is unless absolutely needed so the format vs format is of no concern to me so I just judge it by artistic outlook and I like the dragon's eye view it gives.

its nice but its just not functional, I cannot zoom in close enough to view roads, I would prefer a paper style map.

No. It's perfect for my needs, obvious places are easy to find, less obvious places need a bit of exploration, shrine of biethiah springs to mind. Since the game is about exploration it wouldn't make sense to hold people's hand to their destination.

I wouldn't mind so much if there was a toggle, for people with systems that lag whenever you open the map.

*sigh* Its a map for goodness sake, that's what their FOR. It's not like it was already marked out in previous games.

I have removed the clouds and still can't get any useful information from it. The map, like the rest of the UI really gives the impression that wanted to make playing the game as uncomfortable as possible.

No, it is a fact that a map is supposed to show you where to go.

And you have to go somewhere too see it on the map first, where is the fun in having to find it every time? the locations are clearly marked out anyway, so I have no idea why obscuring the route would be a good idea

And in any case your opinion is no more valuable than mine.

A simple parchment map would've been better.

For me though, the clouds are one of the few redeeming things about the 3D map. It would svck if you could get a really detailed look at the whole gameworld. Do people really want that...? What the [censored] happened to exploration and discovering things for yourselves?
