AVP: Aliens vs Predator

Post » Fri May 27, 2011 2:49 am

Sweet, I went and took a look. I didn't expect it to translate through time this well. It's almost starting to look like what I would imagine a sequel would look like when I was younger. However, no quality of notable length videos have been released "officially". So once more I have to remain skeptical. I need to see like... a whole match. Not just brief little glimpses.

Also I am not sure the gameplay thing I found was the one you seen.

Does this game have a rating yet? Looking at that trailer I'm worried they might reduce the gore if it comes out in Australia.

I'll see how it get's reviewed and go from there. May even just buy it and return it if it's bad.

"the violence depicted in the game can be accommodated within the MA 15+ category as the violent scenes are not prolonged and are interspersed with longer non violent sequences. The violence is fantastical in nature and justified by the context of the game, set in a futuristic science-fiction world, inhabited by aliens and predators. This context serves to lessen its impact. The more contentious violence is randomly generated and is not dependent on player selection of specific moves."

You need a slap. Alien 1-3 (Aliens in particular) are excellent movies. Some of the best sci-fi movies around.

I second this, with the exception of Alien 3.
Aliens (2) is my all-time personal favorite movie. It has no flaws, it's just action-packed perfection. How the hell can that be boring.
Alien 1 was kinda slow, but still a friggin classic.

Aliens 3 ruined EVERYTHING, so I don't know how you could possibly include that in the "excellent movie" and "best scifi" categories. That's just blasphemy. Disagree? Let's anolyze what it delivered to us.
-Movie opens with an alien egg opening up (on the ceiling.) Apparently it goes after Ripley, and conveniently plants a queen in her.
-The cryo chamber is jettisoned after detecting an electrical fire. The facehugger used acid to penetrate the cryo glass. The pod crash lands, killing Newt and Hicks in the process. This is truly tragic because not only were their characters fantastic, but they were emotional replacements for Ripley's own deceased husband and daughter.
-A nosy dog investigates the crashed cryo chamber as it's hauled out of the water. A facehugger gets him. What does it all mean? There were at least two eggs on board the Sulaco's cryo chamber.
*Screeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeech* back the hell up
Where did these eggs come from? Think back to Aliens. The queen leaves her egg-laying tail behind to chase after Ripley and Newt. Bishop picks them up in the nick of time with the dropship, and they head back to the Sulaco as Hadley's Hope is disintegrated. Somehow the queen caught a ride, I guess from the landing strut. The camera concentrates on that, as junk gets crammed into it, preventing it from closing into the hull all the way. Okay, fine, I can accept that. The queen caught a ride. She kills Bishop in the cargo bay, and the end fight ensues. In the cargo bay only. Ripley jumps into the loader, beats her up, and she's flushed into deep space. Everyone goes to sleep, the end.
There are three reasons those eggs can't be there.
-The queen never left the cargo bay area
-She had nothing to lay the eggs with
-Why on the ceiling? If that's the norm, we would have seen that back in Hadley's Hope. We didn't.

Just sayin.

Hell ya, I've had a deep obsession with the Predators (Yatcha in their own language :hehe: ), best alien race EVER in my opinion. So I'll be buying the game. Its a shame its in first-person though. Predators need to be witnessed in all their third-person glory, they look AWESOME (Just look at Predator: Concrete Jungle).

I hate Third Person Shooters... i find that where your character fires is often slightly below or above the cursor depending on where you are aiming and how much higher or lower than your enemy you are, and First person view is naturally the most immersive.

Not to be an ass or anything but how immersive can a game be if you just respawn a few seconds later?

I say nay.

Predators ARE awesome, so awesome, in fact, that it is even MORE awesome to BE a predator!

I assume you mean multiplayer.. well yea, that, having people talk on the mic and trash talk in chat is generally un-immersive. Singleplayer on the other hand has none of the above.

After what Rebellion did with Rogue Warrior I'm never touching any of their games, this included.

Well Rebellion did a pretty good job with the Atari Jaguar Aliens versus Predator, and the PC Aliens versus Predator. Monolith surpassed the original with Aliens versus Predator 2 in nearly every way, but Rebellion can make a decent game if they try. During the time of the first AvP PC game (1999) the folks at Rebellion were actually Alien and Predator fans though so that may be why it was of decent quality. I'm not sure how many of those guys are still there since that was over ten years ago now.

I will be buying this for the multiplayer and if it is substandard then i won't be buying it. However if it lives up to my expectations then i will certainly be an Alien, because me and my buddies are a bit odd like that.

I'll probably check it out, never played the originals. It looks pretty good though, even if the trailer I saw seemed like it had unnecessary amounts of violence (not that I mind violence, when used well).

As for the movies, AVP and Requiem were awful. Just terrible, terrible movies. Sort of like Doom.

Have you ever seen an Alien or Predator movie? (Not the AvP movies, I mean the originals.) What kinda game would it be, if it DIDN'T have unnecessary amounts of violence and gore!? I mean, Aliens jumping in here and there; with the little mouth splattering some poor bastards brains out the back of his head. And Predator's skinning men alive for some physiological effect! What kinda movies would they be if they didn't have unnecessary violence? :P

I can't imagine one of these movies being dropped to a pg-13 rating. Gotta have violence, man. Especially when the likely extinction of your race is on the line.

So that's how you spell it. I saw on another sight that it was spelled Yatcha. Thank you for clarifying.

I've always been a fan of the AvP games, but I'll definitely have to wait for some reviews before I pick it up, I mean Rebellion don't exactly have a great reputation.

For a short while it was refused classification because they considered it too violent for an MA15 rating, but Rebellion said they would never release a neutered version for any "http://www.gamesindustry.biz/articles/rebellion-disappointed-with-australias-banning-of-avp, but after they appealed to the OFLC, it got through without any cuts/edits.
Also it should be called AVP 3.

Well, arguably that title would go to http://au.ps2.ign.com/objects/499/499539.html, with this being the 4th AvP game.

Man, the original AVP was amazing. The marine campaign was rough around the edges, but absolutely brilliant. And the multiplayer was definitely underappreciated. I'd pay for a remake of that game.

IGN have a nice article about http://uk.xbox360.ign.com/articles/106/1061700p1.html, including a video which is looking good. The game seems to be shaping up well.

The http://www.xbox360achievements.org/game/aliens-v-predator/achievements/ for the 360 version were also released today, and they are suitably packed full of references to both Aliens and Predator. Awesome.
