Also, since we're doing out with the old and in with the new:

Get rid of the archaic "200 post limit". Or does that get to stay because it's "tradition" and "don't fix what isn't broken"?

No, still a post limit, but posting in a second or third thread on a topic is the same as posting in just one with more posts in it - isn't it?

Apart from that, how many actually read all the posts before replying - very few judging by the number of times the same question/answer gets raised.

Yeah it is i have no problem with the limit
we are past 200 XD

I'm saddened by how many people want to leave because of the skin.
We're a good bunch, wouldn't want to loose you guys from this place, since it's the only forum I like at all, and that's all becasue of the awesome people.

I hope no one leaves. The new layout makes it feel so ununified, which is why I never liked the Bioware forums.

initial impressions:

too harsh contrasting colours make it difficult to read, and the browser lags for some reason (FF3.6)

sorry. :(

it may grow on me though :)

I'm fairly sure it has more to do with server load than with tradition.

I seriously hope they manage to make it scale so it doesn't look so empty at higher resolutions. That's my only real gripe with the new layout.

The game forums (which is the reason for this site existing) look pretty cool, have a look at the http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/forum/56-general-discussion/

Of course... the hypocrisy runs rampant as always.

I've been on plenty of forums with large userbases that don't feel the need to close at 200 just to make an identical thread... isn't that kinda counter-intuitive to "speeding things up a bit"?

Ok guys well I'll be gone for a while. I'll check periodically, mainly just for mge and alike. Until it gets fixed I'll be playing my new shiny morrowind, Mount and Blade:warbands (only 2 weeks :D) and other stuff. Enjoy your scrolling!

By the way reason for this is I'm having serious trouble reading stuff.

Spoiler
My previous post was still rather optmisitic. There are some minor issues such as my avatar disappearing and me suddenly being placed in the "Newbie" group instead of the "Members" group. Those are minor annoyances, no big deal. However, we seem to be having some more serious issues such as SQL database errors, overall piss poor performance (Really slow loading times people). The older version of IPB was already pushing the limits, but this new bullcrap is really bogging things down. No offense, but have you guys considered actually migrating to NEWER and BETTER servers instead of this imho rather pointless software upgrade (Yes, yes security is an issue as well I know)? That way the boards would at least perform well, right now, it's being really sluggish to outright slow.

Also what's with the horrible scaling? Wel not sure if you can call it scaling, because it does not scale at all. When I watch this forum on my TV I'd like it to scale like the old boards did. It's not exactly funny trying to read these forums on 1920x1080 when you can't actually read anything...

Also, what's up with the rank stars? I like the old amount of stars better, more clear. Even though the function is rather meaningless, if it's going to implented, make sure it's implented properly. So no randomness like this. Linear scale please, like before!

Sorry, but I would not consider this to be an upgrade, more like a very nasty downgrade.

Agreed on all points. I didn't think it was *that* bad at first, but the more I use it, the more annoying it gets. Starting to get a headache too.

I actually like the 200 post limit. It makes it easier to come into a thread with just 5 pages, instead of one with 34 pages. I'm willing to sit and read 8 pages (with the old BGSF layout), but not 23, to join in a conversation/topic.

Go check out the forum skin thread and put your ideas in to change the color or style of CD. Forum Skins

You won't be able to switch skins, because there are no longer skins. Essentially each background is now a wallpaper.

The good thing with that is that they can be swapped out pretty easily. Forum skins are are huge hassle to create (not that we minded creating them), but it was a bigger pain trying to import them.

We're not going to change all the backgrounds (certainly not right away), but since Community Discussion is about the community, I'm all for getting a background you guys are happy with (as long as it's appropriate ).

You can start coming up with suggestions for a Community Discussion background to discuss what options you like. If you've got some good nominees, you could put together or poll.

Additionally, if there's another board that's background is too much of a strain, we'll be looking at feedback.

There's a lot of new features on the boards that are pretty handy when you have the chance to look around. There's also a lot of kinks that need to get ironed out. It's a big change, and we'll see what we can do.

Then please just de-grey the Community Discussion? I'm sure someone can come up with a good colourful theme for CD, too.
