It's Back! #2

Post » Fri May 27, 2011 8:39 pm

We need a poll for "do you like it" with No, Yes, Don't care.

Aaarg, this layout hurts my brain.

If Bethesda wants to drive us away, they are doing a damned good job of it. <_<

It's laggy, I don't like the new star system, I don't like that I can't see user's Avatars when I click on their profile page (visual identification is 60% of how I remember people). It's laggy, the quotes are bulky and too unobtrusive (with the dark background), I can't see the Location under my join date, and it lags like a three legged hippopotamus. And it lags. And everything is too shiny and busy and I can't keep track of anything.

AAAARG, it hurts mah head!

Oh, and who thought we actually cared to connect with Facebook? Are you kidding me? Blech.

 Huh?

It shows 6 pages for me. You people know that you can change that at your profile settings? (like I said at earlier thread)

Yeah, I'm not sure they realize. I've always had my settings to show forty threads/replies per page -- less loading for me -- so that's not really a bother.

I like how you can permanently keep the emoticon window open. It used to bug me having to open it all the time because I don't care enough to remember the shortcuts for them.

If they:

- Add new themes, and by that I mean bring back my tan!
- fix the page width

I'll be okay with the change, though I still think it's pretty unnecessary.

Ah, another downside- whenever you click on a link, it changes the page instead of opening a new tab. I have a tendency to close links, so it closes the forum...

Yeah, I'm not a big fan of the changes. I'm sure they'll grow on me, but the limited width is bad, and personally I'd rather have a very simple non-graphically "popping" layout for forum. And it's REALLY slow.

Oh well...

Urgh... To be honest I really hate the new layout. Black textbox, tiny profile pictures, generally a lot less user friendly. I like having everything in one big page, these new sub folders are more of a hassle. Until this change occured these were the nicest, most user friendly forums I had ever used. No it's not an overreaction I actually find it hard to read what I'm writing here: White writing on black background makes it much harder.

Please guys I hope you either change it or give us some options or something.....

The Elderscrolls background in Morrowind general is very nice, because it adds some good contrasts to the totally black and white posting boxes. I think the CD needs similar treatment. Because damn is it hard to read. I liked black on tan, as compared to black on white, which really makes the letters tun together in a blur of white.

Scrolling speed needs to be faster. It's like my screen is running like molasses.

Found the Fast Reply box.

You can change it to 20 like before.

That's a relief, though I don't like how the default is 30 now. Has that option always been there?

Are there no more themes? i don't really like this white on black text entry.

bad contrasts. I liked the subtler grays of the old default scheme.

I dont see what all the complaining is about. Besides a bit o' slowness it seems fresh. Maybe somewhere down the line we will get themes but I like the B&W look and used the gray one on the old forums so its not much of a change for me. I do like the quick reply setup now. Its much smoother. Don't be afraid of change, once you get acclimated to it you wil forget about the old way. Change is sometimes a good thing ;)

This. It's different but i'm liking it. I was here back when they were switching from the old forum to the last one and had to get used to the change, but it is indeed, sometimes a good thing. :P

This, and optimize the loading to increase the speed, and I might just stay after all.

I dont see what all the complaining is about.

Maybe because you can't really use it ?
Maybe because you have to scroll ten times more than before?
Maybe because half the screen is empty (instead of containing interesting things)?
Maybe because "never change a winning team"?
Maybe because most people don't like changes ;-)

edit: I think I rather stop flaming before my Warn Status increases :flamethrower:

I came across something that is definitely annoying. After copying a chapter of a story from Word to the forum, the forum turned every one-line space between paragraphs into three blank lines. Now I have to go back and remove the extra two lines between every paragraph. When making 2000 - 4000 word posts, this does not make life better.

Making it worse, when you edit a post, it does not bring up the full editor. That means having to make an extra click (with the extra slowness of the new forums) to get to that in order to increase the size of the editing area.

Edit: Looks like the culprit is the rich text editor option. Turning that off seems to keep the extra spaces away. Seems to do some fun things with your tags though, given the ones now showing up when they should not be.

OK for starters, is there like some setting that I can change which will enable me to choose what percentage of my screen width will be used by the forum? Because http://img25.imageshack.us/img25/4795/afteri.png (although it's centred) and I liked it more http://img411.imageshack.us/img411/6309/beforeo.png.

Uh the Gray-ness is closing in on my beloved CD!

Anyway to scale it to fit your monitor size?

Woah. I leave for a week or two and look what happens. That'll show me to ever get too busy to visit. I clearly need to reset my priorities.

The changes really threw me at first, but eh. I'll get used to it, I'm sure.

EDIT: Also, it seems like the pages take longer to load for me. And the width thing is a bit annoying.

Yes yes yes yes. Too much black space, too much clicking to get where I want to go!

I used to come here to relax, but I don't think I'll be able to do that anymore.

Too much form, not enough function!

The downside, well, as has already been noted, the narrow width really makes things more difficult. I took out my ruler, and there is actually more empty space at the sides than there is content in the middle. Not an improvement. I feel sorry for the people without widescreen monitors, since they must really be hurting for space.

Yeah, this is one of my main gripes. I wasn't sure if it scaled but obviously it doesn't, or if it does it does so badly.

what i hate the most is the text box for making your post is almost invisible, and the search floating with your scrolling inside the content

The width doesn't adjust when I make the window more narrow. So I constantly have to scroll left/right to read entire posts. There's also a COMPLETELY useless buffer between the actual thread and the left side of the window (and the right) that does nothing but make the window take up even MORE width.

Now there is ability to give comment to other members while viewing their profile, which I don't really find much use.
