Another thing I dont like is that whenever I click on a link embedded, it used to open in a new window/tab (whatever I had it set to at the time). Now I find myself closing windows/tabs that contained the forum instead.

You can't choose skins or themes anymore, and the ability to do so can't be implemented (straight from Gstaff)

The Forums Skins thread has some more information, as well as things to do to make it more bearable.

LOL. Workarounds to make it more bearable are the only option? "Tips and tricks to feel less sick". Why not make it bearable in the first place?

"I'm sorry, but we don't want to offend the retarded monkey who designed the skin, so you're just going to have to wince and bear it"

I highly doubt anyone experienced was behind the skin. Basic principles you'd find in a design 101 class aren't even at work here. Stop being polite to the bosses kid who is studying web design at high school and wanted a chance to do a real site, and get a professional!

First impression? Eww...unless I can find away to select styles, as in the old one.
Where did the font and color selector go?

As it stands, you're gonna have mass numbers of people fleeing and less new members sticking around. And the ones who do are accelerating toward an optometrist's appointment. Gee, this update sure was worth it.

Ha! I work at an optometry, I don't have to set appointments

But yeah, the color scheme was not wise for the eyes

What if we can't remember what the thread title was?

Unfortunately, as of right now I think all you can do is try and find it using the topic number only. That's the most important bit of info.

I'm hoping gamesas updates and redirects all the old links to the correct topic with the new URL, rather than just pointing to the new index. It's already catching improper URLs and redirecting them, so it should just be a matter of pulling the topic number from the old URL and using that to find the new topic URL in the database, then redirecting there.

Here's to hoping :foodndrink:

After lurking on this newly designed forum for a good number of hours, and adjusting the zoom levels of the text with NoSquint, I no longer get a headache from it. I still hate it, but I can live with it.

Can't stand the new layout. I always hated it when the background of a site doesn't scroll up or down with the rest of it.

White on black is a silly thing to do, it really does strain my eyes, otherwise it's a bit macho and drab, but hey, I can drag down.

Does anyone at ZeniMax/Bethesda actually have a reason (read: good reason, not BS) for doing this "update"?

It just seems like they took several steps backward, downgrading the look, making it impossible to find most of our posts (my postcount is down by just over 1000 posts, and I can only find the latest 300 or so via search, but when I click "show users by postcount" I still have my old ~1300 count... so are they gone or not?), the incredibly inconvenient new method of navigating to a given section, let alone thread or post... I mean, I already lost ~200 posts and had to re-learn how to use the forum the *first* time they made what I think was an arbitrary change several years ago...

Yep, it's BS alright!. :shakehead: And they purge the forums and have for the longest time now.

You might ask, "well why did you change the forums?"

On tech side -- we needed to upgrade to the new forum type, because the old boards are soon to be no longer supported by Invision. We needed to switch to stay security compliant.

Additionally, with us adding more and more games, we wanted to be able to have a directory that make it easier to get to each game. Instead of having just Fallout and Oblivion, we have a lot more games now. The feedback I had been receiving was that it's a pain to scroll down to find game X or game Y.

As mentioned already, we'll definitely keep an eye out for issues -- whether something is buggy or just not working out for you guys. At the same time, do what you can to adjust to the forums...like I said, we needed to make the upgrade.

Thanks

Ok, the coolest new features? The collaborative-like PM system and posting comments on people's profiles (everyone should enable this)

As soon as the theme is dark-font on light background and has widescreen support, I am certain I will like the update

Just signed in for the first time since the change...and I absolutely hate it. This will take a LOT of getting used to. I really hope they'll add an option to change it back at some point. This is overly complicated and I'm finding it hard to get around...

It's beautiful! The only issue is that I had to use the Search function (which actually works!) to find CD :P

Aside from that, this is an unexpected and much needed facelift. Glad to see Bethesda took the time to support their forumites. ^_^

Oh dear God. Why on earth did they drop widescreen support!?

As for the rest, I can live with it (you want a poorly done site, look up Humber College's Blackboard System, or my personal favorite "http://www.belladesoto.us/" (don't blame me if this site crashes your browser), but modern touches aside its a pretty piss poor excuse for a forum layout.

Well, I'm actually getting used to this new setup and I found where to see my last few posts. Bringing back the drop down menu when you click on a member's name (so you can see posts, topics, send IM, etc) would be nice. Nevermind, found it.

As far as the white text on black background, I find it alright. Far better than black text on white background (just too bright for my eyes), although I'll agree that it's somewhat to contrasty.

Biggest issue for me is still lag though. Especially when you have to tabs of these forums going and using one tab to look at your own profile page.

Wor yes I just discovered the messenger that's a nice feature. Profile comment enabling. Hmm sure that will be a good idea?

You can set it so that you can approve or disapprove comments before they become posted on your profile page.

I'm blaming you! Some people shouldn't have access to computers.

EDIT: And the new star system is messing me up.

I think this new layout is going to kill many sub forums. Sure, all the new features are great, but why get rid of the overview of all the forums?

Ok, the sun is down now. This new theme is hurting my eyes. How about a light BG with a dark font?
