what scrolling issue does everybody keep talking about?

It lags if you're using fire fox with a certain add-on.

Same for IE.

I use Fire Fox and it doesn't effect me(on a [censored] 4 year old laptop),but I guess I'm just lucky or somthing.

An issue that is Opera-specific is that there is no Facebook connect option (log in or in the CP). Shows up on Firefox just fine.

... not that it bothers me much since I don't have a facebook page :P But I am certain some of the other Opera users on the forum do.

Though this does mean that there is no way for me to set a profile image, since uploading it yourself is broken :brokencomputer:

what scrolling issue does everybody keep talking about?

It is due to the insane amount of transparency on the site now. People with smooth scrolling nom away at their CPU. Disabling smooth scrolling cures it for most (but it is a dang nice feature)

ON my machine it's very laggy, where one click on the down arrow to advance thread makes it jump a good few inches on my screen. Pretty hard to track the posts that way.

Also, this new layout is too big for my ol' computer to handle. Slow load times.

But hey, thanks for getting that quote since I deleted it by trying to edit it before lol

Something else that's probably already mentioned, but after I voted, the results bars cover up the category texts.

Gah, and either I'm still just learning, but it seems that I need to click edit twice; first seems to just take me down to the fast reply, and the second actually loads my post for editing

Yeah, I really feel that this forum layout is putting my 2560 px horizontal resolution to good use
There's practically twice as much empty space on the sides than there is used space down the middle.
That transparent header gradient was annoying too, but Adblock Plus had the cure for that one too.

I tried that. It all looked like one hideous grey blob.

Oh, an I sort of like new folks just coming in to the launch page not seeing CD right off the bat. It just might keep some spammers of CD at bay. The rest of us can bookmark this section.

That is actually a rather valid point. Will likely deter them a little I reckon. But will it be enough to outweigh the inconvenience?

Bookmark it like I did all those other pages? All those bookmarks that don't work now? :(

Any news on whether it's possible to fix old bookmarks or not?

Oh crud! I had a rather important bookmark too for a topic I was planning on one day possibly using as Article reference material... Curse me for not saving it to my harddrive!

I think it's generally agreed that the changes that should take place as soon as possible are:

  • make the layout scale so there's not so much wasted space on the sides for high resolutions (especially widescreens),
  • make the starring system work as it did before, and
  • add Community Discussion along with the games' sub-forums on the main page.

To that I add
  • change the color scheme to be more eye friendly
  • Make links open to new tabs/windows
  • Reduce performance strain so the forum doesn't take half your CPU
  • Get rid of that semi-transparent stalker toolbar.

Oooo, I didn't notice that notes were gone, crud.

Mine were still present, just formatted up the ying-yang with HTML rather than sensible script.

Everything seems a little too contrasty and my eye can't ever seem to rest on anything for too long. Maybe a little less in the background, but hey I've only tried this thing out for ten minutes and I just need to give it more time.

How do you find all your old posts? It only shows me my last 200 posts...Are they all gone, or is it only showing me my last 200 in the search?

I find the white text on a black/gray background hard to read.

I also find the font small.

What was the improvement? It's slower and it's harder to read.

The graphic backgrounds are ok, but overall it gets a thumbs down from me because it makes the forums harder to read.

Did I mention that it's hard to read now?

Wasn't there a feature earlier today where you could see the last few people who viewed your profile? Is that gone?

There was a thread purge just days before the software update, so I think they are gone for good.

So inconvenient and a pain in the ass to navigate. It makes coming on the forum at all a hassle. I really hope there'll be an option to go back to the old one or something.

It also appears that the default return is 200 most recent posts. (It used to be 500, iirc) You can use the advanced search, with date ranges to get to see older posts.

Yes, I believe they decided to 86 that feature. I'm glad. It's creepy. Plus it inhibits my stalking naughty members. Muahahahahaha*ackcough* ahem. Sorry. Yes, that feature seems to be gone.

It's capped at 200 most recent now, apparently.

Problem with the stalker search bar - it's blocking/masking the link text directly below it on forum pages. Have to scroll the page down a couple lines to be able to have the linked text get recognized as a link.

I second the request that the bar be configurable to autohide.

Yea but I guess that is gone.I did see Orzorn(SP?) was stalking me though.

I was under the impression it all happened gradually, not in purges. :(

Bookmarks Update
As I had mentioned earlier, all old bookmarks auto-redirect to the index now, since they're invalid. Well, good news! With a few simple tweaks they can be made to work again. All you need is the topic ID, and the thread title (which, if you had it bookmarked before, you should have).

To do it, just follow these simple steps.

1. Have old URL ready. For the example, I'll be using this one:
http://www.gamesas.com/bgsforums/index.php?showtopic=1010109

2. At the end of the URL is a blurb, "?showtopic=#######". Copy that to your clipboard.

3. Paste the topic number into here:
http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/#######

4. Now, here's the biggest difference. The new system has the thread title in the URL, so you need to take the old thread title, and put it after the topic number, using dashes as spaces. Special characters like [, ], and ..., are ignored. Other characters, like # can be entered, but you have to use the URL encode sequence (for #, it's %23). http://www.blooberry.com/indexdot/html/topics/urlencoding.htm.

The title for thread ID 1010109 is: "[LIST] List of Mod Lists - Bethesda Softworks Forums" is how it shows up in my bookmarks and the browser title bar. So, the URL would look like:

http://www.gamesas.com/bgsforums/index.php?showtopic=1010109-list-list-of-mod-lists/

And voila, that's it! You have successfully changed an old style link into a functioning new link.

EDIT: It was auto-parsing links. Fixed that.

I dun like it >:|

Couldn't find CD when I got on the site, had to look up my own posts :P

But yeah, I don't think it looks very nice. It seems smaller and less read-friendly.

I'm glad as well, I felt bad that whenever I visited someone's profile they would think I was stalking them. I can't stalk everyone, I'm only one man! :spotted owl:

The default number of displayed topic posts is now 30 instead of 20, which might be contributing to why some people are noticing greater page load times. You can configure it specifically to be 20 in Settings >> Forums.
