What is the deal with "cute first level pokemon" followed by "bad ass looking pokemon"?

They keep doing more of it.

It's really a waste of Pokemon tbh. Nobody's going to use the first evolution of this new Pokemon unless they're battling in a UU environment, but in a normal match you'll never see it used. But I guess the whole feature of evolution is just a way for the creators to not have to come up with ideas for cooler Pokemon.

Not really a waste. Remember Pokemon is a franchise...and they can't sell cute toys if they don't have cute Pokemon. There's also always that character in the show that NEVER evolves their starter Pokemon.

Well, you have to have evolution, since it is the premise of the game. Some girls looooove the little ones. The only one I have ever used without evolving it was Pikachu.

I meant a waste of Pokemon that the fans actually want to battle with. Of course it's not a waste for the creators, every Pokemon, no matter how crappy, has the potential to make the creators more money.

I think they've been pretty good about adding a decent mix of "trash pokemon" and "serious competition pokemon" each generation. They always add new battle mechanics too, which I don't think anybody has ever seen as a bad thing.

I'm more bothered by the fact that it's another Dark type.

When's Fire gonna get some love? :(

True, I don't think there's ever been a really good pure dark type. Umbreon's cool, but is really just a mediocre defensive wall. Absol's pretty cool too, except it doesn't have any moves to work with.

There is Darkrai...

But I think the 4th had waaaaay too many legendary Pokemon.

New legandaries yes, but I don't think we should count the fact that you got to catch the three Legendary Birds on Platinum. Ideally we're working towards a "one game with all pokemon ever", so adding old legendaries is still kosher. :P

I am just talking about in general. The 1st generation had about 4 without Mew. The 4th? Nearly 10 or so. It makes the word mean less when they cram a bunch in there.

But isn't that because you think of 'legendary' status as being similar to rarity. They're legendary for a reason, some because they have immense power, some because they're seen as avatars for some element, some because they're part of the mythology etc.

DOes that mean that you can consider Lucario a legendary pokemon then?

Yeah I haven't caught up to the 4th generation yet... Pokemon games stay full priced for far too long for me to stay current. :P But from my understanding Darkrai is a legendary, so it's an exception. I don't think there's any legendary that svcks.

I never said they svcked. I just said they make too many. It loses its luster when you keep making more and more.

There are 35 http://bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/Legendary out of 493 Pokemon. That's quite a lot IMO.

Oh, and Gen I had 5 legendaries, Gen II had 6 new legendaries, Gen III had 10 new legendaries, and Gen IV had 14 [censored] legendaries. That's waaaaaaaaaay too many legendaries. To quote http://www.vgcats.com/comics/?strip_id=263, "Every game it's another buncha legendaries! How ledgedary are they if'in everyone is?"

Because he's not. He's rare and kind of special, but he's not legendary.
