Bosmer in the civil war?

Post » Fri Jun 22, 2012 12:17 pm

So he has never yelled to you "GET AWAY FROM ME?" Not even after the battle of Windhelm? That's weird. For me that is the only thing he says to me now when the questline is over.

er I think something might be wrong with your copy or a mod is broken or something because on the console he has never shouted that towards me O.o

With that character I had no mods. It was just the vanilla with 1.3 patch.

I would say stormcloaks. "Bosmer rejected the stiff, formal traditions of http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Lore:Aldmer high culture, preferring a more romantic, simple existence in harmony with the land, its wild beauty and wild creatures."

Since the empire has made a truce with the http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Lore:Aldmeri_Dominion and they (The High elves) try to emulate Aldmeri high culture.

Except the stormcloaks are really racist and want a nord only Skyrim.

Exactly! Really though, I think if you try to see the stormcloaks from the perspective of an elf, and try to imagine if these things were happening in real life (like I explained in my last long post) you'd see that most elves would throw their hat in with the empire. It would just be the natural psychological reaction. Does that mean one side is better than the other? That's a different discussion.

He acts just like he hates me. He is disrespecting me and treating me as a dirt. After that I haven't bothered being on the Imperial side.

i side nobody, my nord kills of Imperials AND Stormcloaks to left and right. Gold and arrows is the main reason!
War are for cowards hiding in numbers, going rogue, hide in the forest and ambush the patrols and camps at night. One man army!
:)
(But to the topic, whatever you feel like your character is supporting really.. Both sides are equally screwed up really)

Racial tensions depend on where you go for instance Windhelm tends to seem like the only city where outsiders are greatly unwelcome and places like whiterun are very open minded since they see foreigners very often since its a trading hub, same can be said in many places throughout tamriel.
You're forgetting the fact that you're stopped when first entering Whiterun and told the city is closed because of the dragons, the Alik'r are kicked out, and no Khajiit caravans allowed in to Whiterun like any other city. Nords in general are suspicious of outsiders, but that's no more true of Windhelm than anywhere else.

Except the stormcloaks are really racist and want a nord only Skyrim.

It really depends. Some people in the provinces have always felt that the empire was imposing a foreign culture on them. There's a reason the provinces are all jumping ship the first opportunity they get, and it's not just the Dominion's influence. You can choose to play a pro-imperial elf, but it's hardly a given. The empire is the premier example of Men trying to impose their will on Mer and other races.

Depends on your character. If you have problems with Thalmor or hate against them joining in Stormcloaks is obvious. If you are on side of Thalmor or have not anykind of relations with them you should sing in the Imperial legion.
A more accurate way of putting it would be, if you hate the Thalmor and are an idealist, join the Stormcloaks. If you hate the Thalmor and are a pragmatist, join the Imperial Legion. If you support the Thalmor, don't get involved.

Don't forget Markarth. Nobody's welcome in Markarth, it seems. Not even Nords.

Well I'm not lying. Anyway it has been a few months since I have played with this Imperial character so I may remember something wrong. So I went to check his dialogue too. The comment he always says was there but it wasn't "Get away from me." it was "Go on, get out of here." But isn't the meaning of these the same? Another comment he still keeps to say to me is "Hmph." Also there were the other comments I remember he said very often to me when the war was still going:
"Make it quick. I get enough delays from politicans."
"There isn't someone less busy who can help you?"
I was surprised to see he hasn't any comment in dialogue where he can call player as scum but I'm still certain I heard someone calling me as scum in the Castle Dour...

Tullius was always nice to me, the only time I ever heard something along the lines of get away was when I had orders and he was saying something along the lines of didn't you have some orders solider?

Stormcloaks are dare I say it..

Racist to all races that are in Skyrim that aren't Nords.

Super racist to elves and beast races compared to Imperials and redguards and Bretons and such.

Its silly when I see people who have elves in league with the Stormcloaks since it makes no sense from the lore stand point.

Scratch that.

Altmer help the Stormcloaks because they want to get the Empire out of Skyrim so they can move the Dominion in.

Bosmer hate the Dominion if I recall so they would go against what the High Elves want so they'd side with the Empire.

Always thought their two points was Talos is the god of man and skyrim belongs to the nords. You even admit they don't like outsiders. They may not be hell bent on forcing the other races out, but they don't really want them there. Also about the empire imposing their will on mer, you do realize that just about every government in Tamerial have done this in one way or another. The stormcloaks want to inforce pure nord traditions and mistreat those they believe in direct opposition to them, the former tribunial that use to rule in morrowind enforced strict temple doctrine that if not adhered to meant death or reeducation and imprisonment and of course the thalmor will outright slaughter any who oppose what they state as "fact". Compared to these, the empire looks like saints.

Well of course it could go either way, but if the average elf chose, I think he'd pick the empire ruling skyrim over nords who have a long history of hatred toward elves. Sure maybe the stormcloaks will treat foreigners nicely but if you were an elf actually LIVING there would you bet on it? Especially after seeing the questionable way minorities are often treated in Skyrim. Either that or they'd leave skyrim or just not get involved. Things like this have happened in real life before, and there are (somewhat) predictable responses that the typical person would take.

The Empire isn't against the Thalmor - they are working with Thalmor. And anyway if it engages to war with the Empire and Thalmor, the Empire would not even have a chance because they have allowed Thalmor to have forts and troops all over the Empire. Stormcloaks are the real enemy of Thalmor and so anyone who hates Thalmor should be with them.
The Empire isn't against the Thalmor??? You're talking about Elder Scrolls V, right? Skyrim? Well, since you didn't know, they are against the Thalmor. It's not a simple case of, "Oh, Empire work with Thalmor... they bad guys now, too. Stormcloaks won't work with them, they good guys." That's simplistic to the point of being false. Both parties oppose the Thalmor. One side is living to fight another day, and the other side is too shortsighted to do so and will be crushed by the Empire or the Thalmor.

Ugh... *is this thing on*... I feel like I repeat myself a lot.

THE OTHER RACES HAVE ALREADY SECEDED FROM THE EMPIRE (mostly). The empire= Men subjecting Mer to their rule. Stormcloak Nords are no more racist than imperial Nords.

All these reasons add up to plenty of rationale for an elf supporting the Stormcloaks. My Dunmer, if I ever get his game finished, will help the Stormcloaks. The empire has done nothing for Morrowind since Vvardenfell, they made him a criminal in Skyrim for no reason whatsoever, and he's going to show the Nords that the Dunmer are better than they are. It's pretty simple, I think.

Neither do Dunmer, Bretons, Redguards, Argonians, or Altmer. Khajiit are iffy. Bosmer don't tend to care.

The Nords in Solitude apparently don't like orcs and some dislike the argonians too.

How do you figure this? What can you point to in the post-Stormcloak victory game that leads you to this conclusion? Because I see Ulfric starting out arguing with his general that they need to be patient and give people time to come around, then after he wins sparing his rivals and putting into place jarls who have more non-Nords in their households than their imperial counterparts did. So what is it in the Stormcloak quest line that leads you to believe they would govern any more oppressively than the imperials do during times of war and upheaval?

The empire doesn't exactly subjugate elves. If you read some backstory on the lore, the empire is infamous for political correctness. The whole race abandoned the god Shezzar because his worship was heavily steeped in elf hatred. The current pantheon of gods is a cross between aldmer ancestor spirits (many of the nine started out as literal ancestors of the aldmer) and cyro-nordic gods. The purpose of this was to integrate elves into their society. They allowed the dark elves to continue slavery, for a time, even though the practice is abhorred by the imperials since they used to be slaves to elves. They used trickery and political schemes to slowly oust slavery from Morrowind until the great houses willingly gave it up. They're extremely important to the bosmer, who rely on them for wood (bosmer can't cut down their trees or eat vegetables). The empire was the only thing keeping bosmer united (somewhat) since the first era.

Oh and you to respond to the last person, there are good and bad things that happen when either side wins, but a lot of the negative stuff on stormcloak side IS aimed at minorities. I remember one non-nord alchemist who said the stormcloaks were trying to drive her out because they were paranoid and thought she was poisoning people. There are good things that happen when Stormcloaks win, but bad stuff too.

Say what you want about them outlawing talos worship, but the empire is nowhere near as xenophobic as nords, partocularly in Markarth (even an empire ruled city cant stop nordic xenophobia) and Windhelm.

If said Bosmer hates the Thalmor, he would join the Legion. The Empire remains strong when they win the CW and can then focus on the Thalmor. Even though the Thalmor are associated with the Empire, it's like the saying says, "Keep your friends close and your enemies closer."

Not exactly true, Hlaalu and Redorans were fine with outsiders and Redguards who live in port cities are use to seeing and dealing with outsiders everyday so they pretty much accept them, really you can't compare most of a race as being xenophobic it really depends on where and how they were raised, for example Hlaalus were raised near the borders and even before the third empire saw a lot of outside trade and foreign visitors while Redoran was use to making deals with them and contracting out Redoran warriors to be used as mercenaries for outside influences and money.

When you say "we're in charge or you get stomped by our giant robot," what do you call that? Sure, the empire is benevolent and even negligent- as long as you're paying your taxes and deferential to their interests. There was only one Mer empress, and she faced a lot of discrimination before proving herself, the same standard as the Nords use to test people. This shouldn't be a surprise since Nord culture basically IS imperial culture, to a great extent.

This tolerance gulf that people talk about simply doesn't exist. For one thing, you are siding with Nords no matter which side you pick.
