A call to the wolfpack #2

Post » Sat Jun 16, 2012 4:49 pm

I have started a toon that will utilize the beast form, usually I become a werewolf just for the added strength, stamina, disease resistance but this time I want to try and use the beast form to it's fullest during combat. As of late I will change only during the night and will stay off the road but remain with in feet of it so as to ambush my prey, or stalk it for as long as I can, once I deem it fit to attack I will rush in and power swipe my prey so as to put them on their back and then it's game over. When facing 3-5 potential prey I run circles around them "herding" them into a circle(or closely bunched together) and will periodically make a 90 degree turn into the group taking swipes at whomever and will continue this until one or more break away screaming " I submit" or " We are routed" and finish them off away from the main group. I will continue this tactic until either the group or myself have perished.

My question for the senior wolves out there is this.....
Is there a way to stand toe to toe with a mob of 3-5 or is my RL wolf tactic as good as it gets? I ask cause by all rights a werewolf should be able to dispatch a group of 5 with ease face on, but I am enjoying the wolf hunting tactic I have adopted seeing how it feels natural for a wolf to hunt this way. I was also wondering if I wasted my time perking the one handed tree for added benefit to my claws?

Thanks for howling back

This thread is all about the collective knowledge of the pack, feel free to add your knowledge to the whole, share you back story of your wolf or share a story of you night out hunting.

By the way. It's a real shame you can't sneak in beast form. That would've totally added to the stalking/hunting experience. I've almost reached the silent running perk now.

Yeah I was hoping to be able to " stalk " through the grass and pounce on my prey, as it stands now you gotta keep a little bit of distance between you and them and wait till the time is right to sprint at em and rip em to shreds.

I cannot wait to see just how this new perk tree is gonna pan out, just last night alone I added 40 kills to my maul counter in the Gen. stats pause menu. Imagine what will be possible once your wolf starts to " scale " to your humanoid form, I think I'm gonna get drunk with power

I've now embraced the hunt and I have done many assaults and murders on unsuspecting wanderers along the roads of Solitude. I have made a final choice and chosen to never cure my gift and to live with it forever. Where are your terretories, members of the pack?

Well I for one am interested in finding out just how much of a boost we get in the health & stamina department. Is it going to be a massive boost to the stats or will the perk kind of act like the armor spells, each Lv. is stronger then the last.

It's a little large but my " ring of Hiricne " was working when I marked my borders.... http://i1264.photobucket.com/albums/jj500/Justin_Peddle/Outlineofmyterritoey-1.png

Anyone know how to change a totem howl to the default howl? I found one yesterday and detect life isn't as useful as making everyone run away.

Nice, I was going to say....center of the map, the plains  I like hunting the plains as well but there's something special( to me ) about hunting in the forest around Falkreath and Rifton. I find it to be surreal, I find myself just roaming around not even hunting just enjoying my surroundings

I'm interested as well. The werewolves are too underpowered. They can only heal by feeding, and they don't have any armor at all, so fighting large groups (especially if the group includes archers) isn't very much fun unless you use the totem of fear. The werewolf needs and overhaul.

I really have no idea, I usually stick with the " fear howl ". I can't even find anything on Wiki?! I'll keep looking for ya, I'm unable to test to find out for you, the kiddies are up and I don't like to let them see me " wolf out " may give em nightmares  But I'll keep searching the interwebz until someone else or myself can come up with an answer.

Really? I hardly ever switch out from the " fear howl " due to it playing a BIG part of my hunting tactic.

Even if you already use the fear howl, if you haven't already, you should pray to the Totem of Fear because it upgrades your fear howl.

I try my best to kill the archers first, that way I can get into the group. Try a zig-zag pattern as you approach, this tends to confuse the AI and they tend to not shot until you stop in front of them in order to kill them. So you end up taking 1 arrow instead of 2-3 as you move in for the kill, spamming the " Fear howl " is another useful method if your not used to a " drive by mauling " tactic.
Interesting tid bit I found out last night, if you kill a group of NPC's in humanoid form befor changing you are still able to feed from them when you change giving you the chance to lengthen you transformation at the start or have a stash for if you need it when you are hunting. I came across a 3 Orc hunting party out in the woods and decided not to feed on them, as I worked my way close to Falkreath I bumped into a Thalmor group, killed them but underestimated their magical skill with in a close space, but I was able to feed off the 3 dead Thalmor and return to the 3 Orc's that I killed a little distance back. This not only healed me but it gave me an extra 3 minutes of transformation for a total of 5min30sec of " wolfing out "

For folks wondering about the "stealth werewolf," just invest in Sneak. It's a fun skill on its own, but make sure your character can make good use of it. High skill leads to harder detection, on top of the perk Muffled Movement, Light Foot and Silence. Also, remember this important note: sprinting is fast as hell, yes, but running (not sprinting) is significantly more agile. I run a lot in combat and when stalking prey, and running as a wolf is still faster than running as a humanoid. Often, I'll "sheath" my claws so that the camera pans over my shoulder for a better view.

By the way, does anyone know anything about the perk that gives werewolves an extra 100 health and stamina? Is it on top of the normal 100 point buff werewolves already have, or are Bethesda making us use up a perk and taking away our only buff? I hope it's the former; 200 total points to health and stamina on top of the perk that doubles the health restoration of feeding really makes an unarmored beast more resilient and survivable. Please don't take that away, Bethesda! Besides, vampires get to restore all their health when they feed, so we need all the help we can get.

I'm thinking of making a mage or battlemage werewolf who sticks with the Brotherhood howl; I haven't used it too much (maybe once many months ago), so I want to give it a shot and I can only picture it with a character who uses magic in the first place.

Really? I thought feeding extended the time by only thirty seconds. Source? (I'll double check UESP to figure out which is correct).

I use the normal run to make my sharp turn into the group, you can turn on a dime when not sprinting. As I'm sprinting around the group I'll let go of the sprint button and turn hard to the left or right ( depending on what side their on ) into the group and swipe away as I run through them, it's quite funny, the look on the NPC's faces as I pass through them tearing out their stomachs
I'm under the impression that the new 100 point boost to health & stamina is on top of the boost we already have

Yep, 6 NPC's killed at 30 seconds a pop gave me an extra 3 minutes of beast form. Then add the 2minutes 30seconds you start with, gave me a total 5 and a half minutes

I'm still not sure how the skill tree will improve the werewolf experience. Right now my Nord has no reason to use Beast Form because he's way more powerful in his human form. With a good enchanted and improved sword and a one-handed skill of 100, there is no reason to use the weak claws if I can't even take more than four hits before getting in serious trouble. The skill tree will probably add those +x% damage, but I fear even then my werewolf won't be stronger in his human form.

I'd like to know what you guys think about the (desperatly) needed improvement of the werewolfs in Dawnguard, I still think they will be weaker than the (blood)svckers in the end. I'm a sad pony.

Once transformed, you are in werewolf form for 180 seconds. You can keep Beast Form active longer by feeding on humanoid corpses. Doing so restores 50 points of health and adds an additional 30 seconds of time in Beast Form.

I'll admit that your humanoid form will out class your wolf form as you reach higher Lv.s but I change for the challenge. Once you reach the point where you human form is stronger then your wolf form you are also pretty much stronger then anything other then a dragon, so going into beast form gives me a challenge. It forces me to think out what I'm doing and be cautious of how I do it, compared to me Orc form where I one hit everything and can walk into a group of 15 without blinking an eye.
I'm under the impression that werewolves are gonna be on par with the vampires, we're getting an extra 100 points of health and stamina, once you fill out the claw side of the tree your doing an estimated 140-160 points of damage, multiply that by 2 and now your doing the same damage as a weapon improved with the potion loop cheat. Plus there's a couple other benefits in the tree to boost the beast form like " savage feeding " which may or may not fully restor your health like the vampire feeding. But this is all a guess at the moment, I do so hope us wolves have not been left in the dust this time round.
