That's not the point. Console users are able to play the game as we speak. But due to Steam, even if you physically have the game, you still can't play it.

But that's an argument for another thread.

The X-box players get to play early, but us PCers are screwed because some programmer in steam was too lazy to have it check where you live before deciding if you can play or not.

i went to a god damned midnight release to buy this mofo. now if i had bought the 360 version i would be playing right now, or even the PS3 version for that matter. instead i buy the PC version and for some god damned reason i have to wait LIKE someone who bought a digital copy for this game to unlock???????????

No matter what timezone or time you do it at, the same issue persists.

If you go and base it on local time... well, how exactly do you determine where someone lives and what time it is? If you allowed this, people with the know-how could end up playing 23 hours 59 minutes early...

Here's my situation: I have to work tomorrow. I was going to go to the midnight release tonight, get my reserved and paid for PC copy, take it home, and play it for an hour or so before going to bed. Instead i'm typing this? Why? Because of Steam not being able to "unlock" my already purchased game. I get that 3 hours isn't much, but it basically means I need to just go to bed, get some rest, and play it when I get home tomorrow. Fair enough, but if I had KNOWN that, I wouldn't have stayed up this late and gone to Gamestop in the first place. Maybe I should have done more research about the Steam thing, who knows. Perhaps I have taken for granted that time when I used to by computer games and they were mine to play as often and whenever I chose. TERRIBLE way to start the ball rolling on one of the most anticipated titles of the year.

I think it unlocks for me at 11pm today. So I guess us Alaskans and Hawaiians are pretty lucky. Hawaii should get it at 10 pm.

Of course there is no hope for us to get a retail version before tomorrow morning no matter what we do. At least not in Alaska. A pre-order overnight delivery wouldn't make it to be before Friday even after paying international shipping rates. :shrug:

We're not talking about a MMO here, where a head start would give you a definitive advantage. It's a Single Player experience. About the only thing you'd have to worry about are cinematics popping up on YouTube. And they're there already.

I have to admit, when I have a disc in hand, I expect to be able to play the game. That was the only reason I took the time to go out to Gamestop at midnight, is so that I would be able to play at least a little. Now, because of this Steam timing BS, I won't get to play the game I have here in my frakkin' hands until Wednesday. So, yeah, a little torqued off here, it's not a pleasant surprise.

Screw this, I'm going to bed. Some of us have jobs to go to.

Alright, I get it that it unlocks at 3 EST. I have understood that for a few days now since GStaff announced it. What I don't understand is why I'm not allowed to at least a pre-load like those who ordered off of Steam. It just seems ridiculous to me. I don't need a response from anyone, I'm just venting here.

This is a terrible situation.. I saw one post saying that this was posted as a fact. I certainly never saw it. I wouldn't have spent hours tonight getting there early. Being first in line. Waiting for my collectors edition. To be TOLD I can't install it. Truly this is a travesty. I certainly won't be first in line to buy another game with STEAM on it. I won't be first to rush out and buy another Bethesda product. I had considereing buying on the 360 also but I lent my 360 to a friend so he could play it and I could play it on the PC (which I preferred anyways) I thought about buying a 360 copy also. Steam certainly has been a problem for me. I haven't liked it.. but it hasn't been a problem either. It just cut 3 hours of out my play time that I had set aside besides the hours I set aside to stand in line. Run to the mall prepay. Go back home.. Come back in an hour and then wait in line again to pick it up. It is very frustrating and I certainly would have made different choices if I had known. In the future, I might just wait for the game to go on sale or bargain bin. At least that way I know it will be there.

Well, I agree with you regarding staggered releases. I personally don't see the point.

But that said, publishers do what they want. Assuming you HAVE to enforce the staggered release, I don't see a way around the trouble I just brought up.

You can. I just tried to install it, said it was not released yet, I facepalmed, then when I went to my games library it gave me the preload option.


I'm glad Steam can ruin another game that I love, for 3 hours at least. I wish I lived in Cali, that would solve the problem. The good news is that slow ass POS steam is preloading the game so slowly that I might be done within the 3 hours that I have to stare at the Fallout box! Oh Steam, what would we do without you.

Ahh thank you. Alphabetical order is not my friend. It was just below all my installed games. Was looking for it in the middle of the "Not Installed" games.

Completely ridiculous. There is absolutely no reason PC users should have to wait. Why are 360/PS3 users allowed to play? I was psyched to get a few hours in before bed since I work tomorrow but guess not! Why can I not install offline? Obviously the reason is that they are afraid of piracy. While I understand that, there are much better ways to go about fighting that then screwing actual, paying customers.

For what it's worth (and it isn't worth much,) I will no be purchasing another Bethesda game. Yes, I know; that and $0.75 will buy you a cheap cup of coffee.
