Cannot Install Fallout 3 New Vegas

Post » Wed Mar 02, 2011 11:19 pm

It's been known on this forum for a very long time. Everyone who did their research about the game knew about it.

Yes of course, it's Gamestop's fault! Or it's the customer's fault! How dare the customer purchase something and expect to play it immediately. We are way too demanding. ;)

Just got back from the midnight release at my local Gamestop with my copy of New Vegas. Steam will not let me install the game, claims it is not released yet. What gives?

I have the same problem. I am getting quite pissed. I just spent over an hour in line to be limited by some damn west coast timezone issue. If I bought the lame xbox 360 version i could be playing this right now. Based on steams support site it is 9:00pm. Fix the issue and LET US INSTALL THE F'IN GAME!

That is nice for you, but I don't have the time to browse every messageboard on the planet. I would expect when I buy a game, that I can bring it home and play it. Why not have a 3am release if they want us to wait until then? Furthermore, I find it stupid that Steam will not update their system to be more flexible. I doubt it is too hard to add a location indicator in someones profile, that allows the game to be released at the appropriate time. Furthermore, making everyone in North America activate their games at the same time means there will be server overloads and further delays. This could be avoid by allowing staggered activations based on time zones. In summary, the current situation is flawed for many reasons. The developers of Steam either don't care or don't feel the need to fix these problems. Mostly likely because we are just mindless drones to them buying their games.

It will be fun to see the next threads, "Steam crashes when I try to activate the New Vegas," at 3am ET.

Really I think the biggest problem is that they pushed 'midnight releases' in a lot of places to get more copies sold. Then when someone took their copy home, they found out that they couldn't play it for another 3hrs. That's rather beyond bad form, that's piss poor marketing and customer service.

Hmm, so I just ran into this issue too. What time is it on the west coast?

And yes, I did a midnight launch. Just picked up my copy 20 minutes ago.

Regardless if it was "known info" or not, doesn't change the fact that being forced to wait til an over rated digital distribution platform that doubles as DRM deems it ok to play a legit retail copy of a game is 10 shades of [censored] to begin with.

Edit: wow r e tarded is censored? How politically correct can you get?

The defense of it just being a game or hey, it's just a few hours are weak. We paid money for a product. Period. If you paid for dinner at a restaurant, they took your order, came back and said to come back in 3 hours, I'm sure you'd be totally fine with that, yes?

I agree that tempers are flaring, mine included. More so than they probably should. But to dismiss our claims just because "It's a game" is petty.

Some people dont understand if you pay for a product only to have the product restricted to being used when they say its ok is not good business. Cant say product restriction is a bad thing because alot of things have restrictions on when we can use something.

But honestly I didnt even know this was a steam based game now. Ive been off the forums for months and didnt hear anything about it. While I dont mind steam I hate it because half the time you try to play in offline mode a game you already own and its a single player game it comes back telling you some [censored] that the game needs to be updated and cant be played in offline mode currently even though you check for updates before going into offline mode and there are none.

Truly you know how to live and make every moment count Mister titan357 :D

Lol, I made a spot for my game and finished reading the book.

I have pics of the case, I am not sure if I can link to them or not.

Yes it does. I think I've been less let down after leaving a titteh bar.... Come to think of it it's pretty much the same. Get all worked up and go home...

Ah guys, its just a game. Heck my cd is in my disc drive and I am just waiting, I might even go to bed.

I have to say though, I am VERY pleased with eht over all quality of the collectors edition, compared to the last fallout collectors edition. I like this one much more.

P.S

Does anyone else find it strange that out of 40 people at the store that ONLY I got a PC version? I bet those lucky console dogs are playing away right now.

Ah, im going to ye old chamber and sleeping till about 6.

Depends on where you are.

EC is +3/3.5
Central is +2
Mtn is +1
WC/Pacific is +0

So if it's midnight WC it's 3am on the EC. And 1am for Mountain, and 2am for Central.

Certainly, I've been quite anti-Steam in the past before the game release (and still am).

But currently I'm mostly just surprised that major Fallout fans who are eager enough to go to a midnight release to buy the game somehow missed the Steam requirement. I would have guessed that those are the people who read every preview and interview they can get their hands on.

Eh I'm a major FO fan, and I didn't know anything about it until ~2 days ago. Mostly because I've skipped all the info on the game so I wouldn't spoil any aspect of it. Much like I've skipped info on the TES series and FO3, and so on.

Christ on the Cross Bethesda, can you not release a game correctly anymore? Fallout 3's launch was marred by the fact that 50% of PC users COULDN'T get it to run at all, now something this simple, you can't do right. Hell, you sent out the POP and merch kits to all the retailers, and you helped them push a midnight release. Knowing the track record we have here, I honestly think there is going to be some killer bug that prevents most of the PC user base from getting the damn thing working.

Maybe so, but this restriction is completely arbitrary. Furthermore, they did not make it clear at ALL that this would be the case either on the packaging or at Gamestop (which obviously is not directly Bethesda or Steam's fault.) As another poster pointed out, companies pushed the Midnight Release bit but then restrict you from playing. It's just ridiculous. At the very least, let us register offline with the caveat that we don't get achieves. That would be fine with me.

I knew it was a Steam game; hell, I was glad to hear it was (Games for Windows Live is AWFUL and caused lots of the technical problems with FO3.) However, I assumed I would get to play since, you know, I actually have a physical copy of the game. I love being treated like a criminal when I actually paid for the software.

This is by no means exclusive to Bethesda, but something that Valve started with Half-Life 2 6 years ago, and that all Steamworks games had ever since.

BUT CONSIDER THIS MY PC PALS!

Those console gamers will be bored of their game much sooner than we will!

Just as waiting for the perfect sixual encounter

Waiting for this game to release will just make it better, in my opinion!

I mean... Have you ever felt like you were a kid again? Waiting for christmas morning? To receive what you had been waiting for months since you asked for it?

Well... it gives me that feeling, and I know, that the longer I wait, the better it will be

So I will sleep tonight, hopeful that in the morning my pre-load will be complete, and then play FNV, and enjoy it, and savor the taste

I just don't get how bethesda allows the consoles to start now but they can't tell steam to let PC users start now as well.. it makes no sense.

I never installed games for windows live. I installed the GOTY edition fallout 3 didnt bother with the games for windows live ignored most of it and played it as is. I eventually did put it on my steam list so I could help clear my desktop of the un needed shortcut icons. I do agree steam has its ups but the downs are what bugs me more with steam. If I own a game it should be able to play online and offline at any time after that intial setup. I shouldnt be told by steam oh sorry the game you want to play isnt currently avaliable in offline mode please log in. and here I am out in the middle of no wheres wanting to play the game where there is no internet connection to pass the time and now I cant.
