Operative...the look is slick...the speed is fast and you can sneak in behind people when they least expect it. The element of surprise is crucial! :D

Buffing isn't an unlimited ability, meaning one guy can't buff the entire team. I think the most one player can do is buff 3 players (2 if he buffs himself).

you get 3 buffing points? i guess thats what there called. it costs one to buff a teamate and 2 to buff yourself

(forum post from Rahdo)

Basically, our life meters and power meters aren't one solid bar, but a collection of individual 'pips'. so in the case of power, when you look at your meter, if you see it's 3 pips long, that means right now, you can do exactly three class actions. and the life meter works like the one in farcry 2 did, where it's split into pips, and each individual auto-pip can self heal, but to get a full heal of your entire meter, you need to rely on medics.

You need 2 pips to buff yourself or 1 to buff a teammate, so it kinda comes down to a "you buff me, I'll buff you" mentality.

Why would you ever want to stop shooting, Soldier for me, along with the engineer. So far though The Medic sounds like the Tank in this to me although the 30 second healing cooldown seems a bit generous, The Operative is your Lightweight/Running class like the Scout/Spy from TF2, The Engineer is by far the best support class, laying down fire from all sides whilethe team moves in.The Soldier is the base class though, specializing in grenades and re-supplying the team appears to be pretty substandard :(, but IMO the most well-rounded class.

note on turrets (from Rahdo)

the turrets that one can put down aren't anywhere near as strong as a normal player. they can be damaged very quickly (destroying takes longer, but while damaged they're totally off line), they have no collision (or rather, they have 'soft' collision... you can't stand inside one, but you can move through it easily - this is true for collision with players as well)

Player spawned turrets are really best thought of as 'distractions'. they generally don't get kills by themselves (unless someone's not paying attention at all), but they do make the enemy keep moving, to distract them for a few key seconds so you can surprise them. They have no collision (or rather, they have 'soft' collision... you can't stand inside one, but you can move through it easily - this is true for collision with players as well)

I'll play as all four, of course. I'll probably be Soldier and Engineer mostly though. Even though I will certainly do my best to be a good team player, I still enjoy having a lot of firepower at my disposal, so those two classes seem to be my best bet.

EDIT: Seriously, Operative has twice as many votes as the rest of the classes?

im going to be all 4 depending on what my team needs. i like the operative because it can interrogate enemies for lots of experience and when another operative disguises himself on your team you can notice it so he wont get the chance to backstab anybody

Why do people assume that the operative is fast and slick? A light medic would be as quick as a light operative. I'm gonna mainly go soldier and heavy with "The Bomb" archetype but I'll try "The Freak" Archetype with heavy body and operative class. Fat Spy much?

I'll probably go for soldier to start with and see if I like it (I probably will). Soldier Class, heavy build. Muchos health and pips will definately make a difference.

Woohoo, a fellow Medic player! You guys can think killing other players is cool and all, but you won't be doing much of anything if you're dead...

And if no-one is there to kill most of the players, what about you?

Wow, no really? So you'll be killing enemies, doing objectives and healing people all by your mediccy self? No soldier, no ammo. No engy, no objective repair. No operative, no intel. You can't do it all at once. If you are healing the soldier you were talking about, you can't do much about the guy shooting you. And likewise, you won't be doing much of anything if you're dead too.

seeing as guns aren't tied to class, I don't see how.

Wow, no really? So you'll be killing enemies, doing objectives and healing people all by your mediccy self?

Seeing as Medics really don't have objectives except for healing and reviving teammates, doing objectives and healing people are practically the same thing. The only thing I need to worry about objective wise, is that they have made it so Medics can do core objectives now, like protecting NPC's. So in short, yes, I will be doing it all by my mediccy self.

No soldier, no ammo.

You can reload at Command Posts

No engy, no objective repair.

This has nothing to do with being a Medic and healing teammates, which is what my original post was talking about. I can also change classes at command posts, so I could still do objective, and change right back to a Medic.

No operative, no intel.

Same thing as above.

You can't do it all at once.

I never said I could, I was talking about playing Meidc...

If you are healing the soldier you were talking about, you can't do much about the guy shooting you.

I can shoot and/or kill him, the soldier I am healing can shoot him also. If I kill the guy shooting me and my soldier dies, it's no big deal since I can revive.

And likewise, you won't be doing much of anything if you're dead too.

Then a Medic will revive me - no big deal. The whole point of me posting was pointing out how important Medics are - this just strengthens that argument. Also, awhile back, Rahdo hinted at skills you can use when you're dead. One of them was a self-revive. It was awhile ago and no details were given.

A good team will have a nice balance of all four classes. It's not like any single one of them is better than the others.

EDIT: Oh shi-a self-revive? Be on the lookout for zombie medics I guess.

I'm not saying it is definitely in the game, I just remember them talking about skills you can use when you're dead, and that could be one of them.

See avatar.

With regards to "doing it all" I meant completing missions. Teamwork is needed to do this so not one class can do it all themselves. And self-revive? There has got to be some disadvantages or something put on that because just off the bat it sounds op.

the self revive, when they hinted at it, would be like a death streak reward. It would probably have a long cooldown, or like a one time use skill.

I think it's pretty cool how medics aren't going to be merely healers, but buffers as well. Making teammates harder, better, faster, and stronger with magical science! :shocking:
