by the looks of these polls, most people will be playing as operative. that means that they will be able to pick out the disguised enemies before they can do any damage. also most people will be the light body types. i guess because they want to be like tom clancy. the heavy guys will have a big advantage once this game comes out because of that

Can't wait to squish those stick insects that actually want to take advantage of the freerunning feature in this game. Sure I may have to stick to the stairs, but I have a machine gun ;)

Definitely the Engineer. Drop a turret, climb real fast to another building and it's like killing in 2 places at once.

turrets dont do very much damage. your gun does alot more damage than the turret. dont count on that to get you kills and it can also get hacked

Either the soldier or the engineer, can't quite choose yet, I love running into the thick of battle, guns ablaze, but also being a bit more tactical is fun too.

I get the feeling I'm going to do a lot of as-needed class changing in this game, both online and off. My aesthetic senses favor Engineer, though. Sentry gun and mine placement appeals to the scheming tactician in me, and my interpersonal support tendencies that made Medic my favorite class in TF2 will be somewhat satisfied by the ability to buff allies' weapons.

Of course, I'll still also play Medic a lot; I'm sure I'll like it even more than the TF2 medic, because the incentives aren't to be a "healbot"--your healing tools can't be used constantly, and you have the firepower to make your shooter skills useful while your health packs are cooling down (or however the mechanic is going to be expressed in this game).

Operative will be my third choice. The Splinter Cell series is one of my all-time favorites in gaming, and I'll enjoy aiding my teammates by hacking and interrogating. I won't be one of those who think Operative is an assassin--if anything, when I feel the itch to ninja around and kill people by surprise, I'll probably be a light soldier.

But I'll probably leave Soldier to others, most of the time. Sure, resupplying my teammates would be fun, and area-denial grenades pique my interest, but planting demo charges seems so boring it's almost Zelda-esque (wait until the enemy's mouth is open. throw bomb. enemy swallows bomb and dies), and killing people will make me feel more like a badass when I'm in a role with less health, ammo, and firepower anyway. The role looks fun overall, but I probably won't touch it unless incompetent teammates make it strictly necessary.

In some class-based games I've played there's a worrying tendency for many of the smartest players to play support roles, which leaves the incompetent players on the front line, and that doesn't really work out so well. The fact that Brink offers each role some nuance, some importance beyond "kill the enemy", seems like it should allay this.

I guess what I'm saying is that I like everything in this game. I preordered yesterday, along with SC2.

I think the operaative class sounds most like me, but my second choice would probably be engineer being that I have always liked tactical gameplay

I'm a simple man. I don't need tech trees. I rather punch you in the face then stab you in the back. And I much rather be the killer then the healer.

That is why I play Soldier in these type of games.
