Come Fly With Me quest corrupts save files.

Post » Fri May 13, 2011 1:50 pm

I just finished this quest for the second time. I did everything that was maybe causing the bug, picked up the spacesuit, entered through the basemant area, (manhole) several times, and emptied the inventory of the last demon (I think his name is Davidson). I couldn't get the bug to happen.

There is a desk with a jail key in the area where the demon has a flame thrower like gun. Both times running through this quest I did not take the key, it's still in the desk. And in both plays, it acted like I had the key in my inventory when I opened the jail doors that were locked. I picked up Davidson's ( I think that was his name) key after I did the jail cells.

Also, my autosaves are turned off and I don't use quick saves either.

A fresh new week, a new week full of chances for bethesda to fix the most glaring buggs, such as this.
Will bethesda be an utter let down this week again, or will we see a fix?!

So what I have to do to 100% avoid this bug? Only don't use the ladder? Kill Harvald?

:<

PS. I don't want to use the console - no achievements, less experience.

Sadly there seems to be no consensus on that. While people have been able to reliably replicate the bug using workable saves just prior to the bug occurring, following the same steps on completely seperate play-throughs does not nescessarily recreate the bug even on the same machine.

It seems that although certain actions (using the ladder, talking to Harland, etc.) seem to trigger the bug in some playthroughs, this is not always the case. It also seems that the bug is able to be triggered in other ways (and at other locations.)

It appears this may be a complex bug and that a playthrough is made succeptable to it through actions taken elsewhere. So until there is an official fix (or heck even official statement would be nice) there is no way to avoid this with 100% certainty. Just keep your fingers crossed and save often and separately.

I've done it twice..
Helped Harland
Helped Davison ( stealth boy run )
Adjusted rocket flight..and sabotaged them.
Left EDE outside.
Left through man hole 2x to retrieve items...
Entered through man hole as well

2x exactly the same way and it worked...

I'm not tempting fate this run either and plan on doing it exactly the same way...

I got around this after few hours of "falloutNV has crashed to desktop", then starting the game and trying to figure it out. It crashed on several different places.

i was saving and loading after everything i did to see where the problem is, and it was at random points.

- after finding out i got to get the fuel and modules, i left and got them. saved. When i entered the facility again, save - load -> crash. so i reloaded to previous, opened console and "movetoqt" this teleported me to jason bright (save - load -> OK). i told him its ok to go down. (save - load at this point, ok). they run down, i went after them. through the first door (save - load -> crash). so i reload back to talking to jason bright, let him run down and opened console and "player.moveto 000834c0" so i teleported to downstairs and talked to him there (save load -> OK).

talked to their human help, gave him the stuff he needed (save - load -> OK). run upstairs, after first door save - load -> CRASH again. so i load previous save, back to human help, give him the stuff, open console and "movetoqt", this teleported me up to view platform (save - load -> OK)

i launch the eedjits (save - load -> OK)

i try to run out of the facility, all works ok. puh, 3 hours of life wasted. thanks developers, thanks beta testers. hope this console bull?1t will help some of you past this.

now i'm afraid to press "add reply" to this post, maybe it will crash to desktop.

yours,

I'm having a great time with the rest of the game, but a fix or ETA for a fix would be great, as I'd like to complete this and Vault 34 too!

I've had to go back to try an replay it after completing the quest the first time and having 5 hours worth of games saves corrupted. I did not realize there was a bug with this quest until I started having problems this morning. Replayed the quest and made a save after every step and the first save after telling Bright the demons are gone is the where my saves get corrupted. My save right before I tell him is fine, after I tell him the game crashes...

It's Vault 3 that's giving people issues as far as I know. Haha oh man don't get them mixed up and avoid the wrong one by mistake!

does beth have any reps that come on to discuss anything with the players...i mean does anyone in there use the forums other than looking at whats on it..i mean do they actually reply? I wouldnt even have a problem if they sued twitter so long as we got some for of info...once the game released it was complete silence after the 1st 2 fixes...its like they are either plotting some marketing scheme or they feel ashamed about their product..i cant tell which atm.

Oh man I am so glad that other players have the same problem. At first, I thought something′s wrong with my PC. So I re-installed Fallout and Steam. But the game crashed again and again when I loaded a savegame from that quest. OMG was I pissed !
So...my question now: I completed the "come fly with me" quest and headed back to Novac. I tried to save and load at least 20 times and everything worked well. Is there a chance that I can keep on playing without any corrupted savegame or will my savegames from now on be randomly destroyed ?

But it′s a shame how the game could be released with such a bug <_<

And maybe it helps if I give you some details.
Game Version: UK on a german system, english language & english steam
Windows 7 64
8 GB RAM
ATI 5800 Series
Intel i5

EDIT: I downloaded an update for my ATI. But I don′t think that will help much...

The teams at Obsidian and Bethesda have been working on this one and it'll be resolved in an update for the game. More details when I've got them...

Which can make bug stomping pretty damn hard.

Both my PC, and my friends PS3 run through have avoided this bug. I've been to Vault 3 without issue to. I did lose 6 saves at Vault 22. Thankfully I save often and only lost about 20-30 minutes or so.

Same here and this is my second time starting over, first time I encountered a gamebreaker on the ps3 so I bought the PC version hoping for more stability and nope.

After I launch the rockets in come fly with me, anything after that is corrupted and non of my saves work properly.

I am giving this game more then its fair shot as I purchased two copies PS3 and PC lol I want to play it but why are they denying me that.

Point is even if you could work around this quest its far from the point, I want to be able to play this game my way, I shouldnt have to find an alternate route of playing cause of a bug in the game.

But hopefully the devs or someone comes up with something to fix this as I cant do nothing now, and it looks like I have to start over again if I cant get my saves to work.
