100% agree. Almost every other bug is a nuisance and tolerable, this one is absolutely unacceptable. The fact that no one in an official capacity has responded to this is incredibly perplexing. Someday I hope my business can take peoples money for a faulty product, completely ignore their (valid) complaints and laugh as I stroll to the bank with fistfuls of cash.

So, as suggested, let's call support and send e-mail so they can notice this. They cared to answer that, but didn't to tell us if they're working on it. If it's the official support where they'll answer us, so let's check it. I'm sending an e-mail right now and I hope everybody here does the same.

you said it, djzombie . the communication from Bethesda on this issue is aloof, no hint of the recognition of the frustration, dissappointment and anger they stoke . it feels bad paying good money because one believes in a company and their product only to be left dangling without apology or explanation . yes, i could email but they know of the save issue already (yes, i'm ANOTHER affliceted customer) . instead i will vote with my dollars next time round . i bought and enjoyed Morrowind, Oblivion and Fallout 3 a year or two after their initial release, all bugs sorted, patches already in the disc version, lots of mods and walkthroughs about . i should have done the same with this game but was just too keen after Fallout 3 and too trusting of Bethesda . never again . next game they will have to wait a year for my money . there are lots of other great games out there to keep me amused in the meantime. and if it's on Steam again, i won't be buying it at all . i hate hate hate being hostage to some on-line firm i don't want anything to do with . i want a normal install on my hard drive . Steam is a deal breaker for me

I completed the quest this morning. It's not clear when exactly saves break in connection to this quest, but I saw 'quest completed' notification, went out of the building, saved and loaded few times and it worked.

If it's significant, I already had two items required to fix the rockets on me (picked up a rocket at gift shop and had the other part from somewhere else, not sure what place) so I basically didn't leave the facility at all during the whole quest

Loaded a save that worked. It is still under the quest i put a spell on you. But i unchecked it and checked another quest. and when i saved and quit the game it worked. so i went back to the quest i put a spell on you, and even finished the quest got my caps and the xp point for finished the quest, after that i did a save. quit the game to main menu and loaded the recent save and taddaaa chrashed to desktop, so fu..ing angry right now. Seems pointless to play this stupid game when i wont be able to save and have to do all things all over again.

I don't understand why many are saying that you can't progress in the game if you don't complete this quest. Just read Manny's computer. I did that before I even knew about the save bug. I didn't get any penalty for reading his computer and he was even in the room.

Broken too now

Fixed with uninstall and shelving the game till they [censored] fix it

I wish i could make money from broken [censored], especially if i ignore customers

i wont be buying anything else from either bethseda or obsidian, TBH its stuff like this that makes people pirate games, heck i checked and they have the patches too, i could of saved myself ￡￡￡ pirating it, its not like the pirate copys are broken and the legit retail works...........

It's a sad state when you basicaly feel like you wasted money on a broken product and you endup wishing you had pirated it.

Omfg didnt know there're 7 pages about this issue... I have this problem as well. It all started after i finished come fly with me quest... I have to yet confirm which part of the quest corrupts save files. What i can tell for sure killing harland wont help. In fact i bumped into him after killing supermutant boss. He spoke to me gave me his mini-quest. i then climbed up the stars to where he was standing he attacked me, i killed him quest mark disappeared. This didnt prevent saves from corruption....


OK, this is confirmed for me, game corrupts saves as soon as i re-enter basemant with all required quest items

I'd really love to play this game, but I'm not going to touch it until this is fixed. Losing hours of progress really, really svcks.

Okey, it seems i've been able to finally complete this one buggy quest without immediate save corruption (hope about future) So what i did was this:

I RE-ENTERED basemant via manhole and got corruption straight away... I then re-entered building via main door, saved, reloaded no problems, went to the door to basemant again save reload no problems. Entered basemant save reload no problems, then i just saved and reloaded after each 10 steps to the scientist and the same way back up to where u push the button WITHOUT save game corruption- and then i left this place for good

I was trying this, too, but I couldn't make it all the way no matter what combination of actions I took.

There is still hope, but you may have to replay the entire city, which is what I did.

Actually it is, so other people are AWARE of this game-breaking bugg and can choose to avoid it, or avoid buying the game.

This sounds like a real bummer. Somehow I managed to do this quest twice with no issues. Both times i did not have the items for chris when i started. and both times i helped harlan. I have however lost several hours of game play because of the issue with steam saves so i feel your pain.

Got this bug yesterday. Thought I post it here to help the devs or people here find a solution.

As I usually do I totally ignored the main quest for the first 10+ hours of the game and just explore. Thing is I ended up in Novac (headed east from Goodsprings) went to said facility after being asked to do that in Novac, talked to the ghouls upstairs, went to the basemant as requested, got killed, reloaded and decided to leave the quest for later (the quest stage is still the one after you're told to go to the basemant and get rid of the demons). Went outside and continued exploring.

35 hours in the game I return to Novac while doing the main quest. I go to the facility (I'm aware that the quest is optional but I want to do it). If I enter the building and save it gets corrupted. If I still continue with the quest once in a "blue moon" a save will be OK but that's not really a solution to the problem.

Got hit with this bug just tonight, so bloody frustrating!

I managed to get one of my quick saves to load okay, now this is the only usable save I have :stare:

Major issue being for me is that if I leave the building to try and ignore this quest every save afterwards becomes corrupt so I'm getting corruption somewhere in between loading and leaving the building :brokencomputer:

I just want to play this bloody game FFS. Hopefully when a patch is finally issued my only save file will be useable.

At this point i feel a major refund is in order. If a product is faulty you can't profit from it. If you sell a car with a faulty part the company muist do a recall in fear of law suit. Fix the issue or refund my money. simple as that.

You are an absolute legend! My only save that wasn't corrupt was right before you kill the Nightkin dude, so I did that, left via the ladder - loaded the auto save (it was corrupt). Started again but this time after leaving via the ladder I walked around and went in the front door, loaded the auto save and now it's worked I've fast traveled away, saved it and loaded it successfully. Thank you!

Yes main door and then basemant worked for me. I'm so many hours after that quest and no corruption saves so far, but still i save and reload every 5 min, just in case

So the bug is caused by using the ladder to re-enter the basemant.

I finally gave up on waiting for a fix and just avoided the quest, and if I ever find Vault 3, I'll stear clear of that place as well.

Quite possibly that but the first time I tried this I forgot to take any items from Mr. Big Bad Nightkin (keep forgetting his name ) I re-loaded my quick save and tried the whole process again but this time I took everything from him (I wanted that bumper sword!). When I got back to Novac, I saved and tried to load but it seems that have items from him made it crash even after the gate/door trick So I'll have to go back and get that stuff once (if) it's fixed.
