Compensation for FONV?

Post » Tue May 10, 2011 12:20 pm

Doesn't matter if obsidian game me a refund and future copies of all their games. A glich that rendered the entire game unplayable and it doesn't come out in a hot fix is just beyond my comprehension

Unless its, y'know, hard to fix. Difficult to track down, quantify and prevent from happening again?

The DLC bug on Xbox apparently came outta nowhere, was difficult to quantify and isn't something they can risk issuing a partial fix for. The animation bug on the PC seems to also be a puzzler, since the second version of it was caused by an attempt to fix the first.

I think since the professional reviewers actually had some of the same issues a lot of the complaints are about, independent of each other, shows that the game was released prematurely and full of bugs. If the reviewers would have said the game was flawless and had no issues it would be much easier to believe only a small number of people are having issues with the games. As I mentioned in an earlier post, even the customer service rep. I spoke to told me that they did not buy FNV because they knew it was going to be buggy .... enough said.

As far as compensation is concerned, I think that if Bathesda/Obsidian wants any loyalty whatsoever from their customers it would be in their best interest to make the Dec. 21st DLC a "Christmas gift from the folks at Bathesda". A gesture like that to me would say they are admitting the game was messed up, they are sorry, and the DLC is their apology. I would certainly respect that. They can't come right out and say they are sorry for releasing a broken game simply because they would then open themselves up to potential legal issues. If they gave us the free Christmas DLC I personally would feel much better about buying any further DLC or games from Bathesda.

And the penalties from breaking their contract with MS could put them out of business. Or just get them sued by their shareholders (who, unlike disgruntled customers, would actually have a case they could win).

That's assuming it is the same DLC.

They promised M$ a DLC exclusivity for X-box first. That doesn't preclude them from releasing OTHER content for all platforms, especially if it is noncompetitive with the exclusive content.

True.

I seriously doubt they have another DLC near ready to go, though.

Unless you know the total number of players and the percentage of those players that have problems, you will never know if they are in the majority or not. So are there many complaints about glitches? Yes. Does that prove they are the majority of players? No.

I have to agree with the title of this thread... especially since I didn't bother reading the rest of it. I paid good money.. the price of a couple of blu-rays.. for a game that I've spent 160 hours on so far.

What gall Obsidian and Bethesda have to steal so much of my life away!

If I didn't know any better, I'd say that they had the intention of entertaining me indefinitely!

Just who do they think they are?

At this point, an appology on the forums for releasing this mess when they did would suffice...but a new outfit and/or weapon would be nice. Maybe something to go along with the theme of the patch. An exterminator's jumpsuit and bugspray gun with bonus crit/damage to insects, perhaps? :)

I don't like Obsidian and the only reason I bought this game was because it is a sequel to a Bethesda game using their engine. I'll not make the mistake of hoping Obsidian could create a game proper again. I'll be waiting a year at the least from now on (assuming I ever buy another Obsidian game which is unlikely) so as to avoid paying 60 dollars for a box of glitches.

Think of what this game would be like if they had gotten it patched and worked at release..... it would be game of the year in a second

Instead they got the airborn radscrorpion and that doc doing the crazies.

damn shame

I have been through and deleted quite a few posts. This topic is for discussing the need for compensation, it is not for flamebaiting and in some instances flaming other members.

I have had very few problems with the game and none that meant more than a quick reload, but I also understand that there are others who are having problems. Hopefully the patch that (so it seems from internet reports) is on its way. I hope that it will calm everyone down and we can get back to some semblance of order. In the meantime any further personal attacks will be looked on with disfavor by the moderators.

The OP has every right to suggest that people who have experienced any (of the VAST) amount of issues with this game deserve some form of compensation.

Absolutely. And anyone who wishes to retort also has the right. Such is the way of a public forum.

I don't know. The save corruption issue is one I had several times in FO3. And there's several other big bugs in FO3 that still aren't fixed. Heck, beyond extremely minor stuff like "radscorpion in rock" which I also had in FO3, I've had less issues with NV than I did in FO3.

Anyway, Obsidian and Beth owe us absolutely nothing beyond a patch, which is apparently in the works. To say they owe us a discount on DLC or whatever is a sign of an entitlement mentality that simply isn't warranted.

It would be neat if they gave us a custom weapon or armor that fits the bug-stomping theme though, but we aren't entitled to any such thing.

Actually, no one has such a 'right'...which is why Roh. had to delete a number of posts, and rather decently didn't resort to bans.

The problem is that bugs in games is an industry issue...which in turn is not being addressed at government levels in relation to consumer rights in relation to 'intellectual property' or programme content. Fix that, and games will be fixed once the companies are held accountable.

You have the right to ask for compensation, you have the right to complain about any problems you are experiencing and ask for them to be corrected, what you don't have the right to is making posts attacking other members for their views, to flame those members or make rude and disparaging remarks to other members, groups of members or anyone else. This is a private forum, one where when you joined you agreed to abide by the http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/724862-forum-rules-and-general-information/, it would be an idea to read those rules in order to stay out of the moderators view. We have no objection to members complaining and making their views known as long as it is done in a civil and constructive way - anything else will attract our attention.

There's something I honestly don't get about this:

This infamous save game bug is not something you can miss while playing. Sooner or later you'll have to reload and realize that the save is corrupted.

So this bug only affects you, if you're in the habbit of reusing the same save slot over and over again. If you save the game in a new game slot from time to time, you'll lose a bit of game time at best, if you have to go back to an earlier save.

Everyone who's been playing a complex RPG should know that it's a good idea to use more than one save game.

I agree that this bug is extremely frustrating and should have been avoided at all costs. But my guess is, that it's the result of some special sequence of user actions, which never occured to any of the testers. How many testers are there? 30? 40? But some of the million gamers were bound to find it eventually, it's just statistics!

As a software developer I know only too well, that it's just not possible to check every possible situation. In a complex game like FO:NV it's not even possible to at least play once through every branch of every quest, even though this would seem like an obvious necessity. But there are just too many variations. So you'll always have to live with some bugs, it's a fact of life.

And to the guys who said that games were less buggy back in earlier days... you're sooooo wrong.

Especially Fallout 2 were known to have an incredible amount of bugs, many of them were game breaking. It took a lot of patches to get it into a playable state.

The fact is if you want this size of a game this early on from this size of a company your gona have to live with some interesting bugs for a few weeks to a few months. If you cant handle that then your just gona be sad.

You are making excuses for them. If I buy a toaster I expect it to toast bread, If I buy a video game (which are now much more expensive since the seventh generation consoles came out) I expect it to work. That is its MOST basic requirement above things like being fun and having replay value, it must work. I can understand a small number of bugs here and there but the fact of the matter is New Vegas has too many. I heard that they had a team of 300 testers involved in the project, and Obsidian isn't some group of bedroom coder amateurs, these guys are proffessionals. If they are not holding up their end of the deal then they should be held accountable.

They ARE compensating us, the patches they work on? They don't HAVE to do it. But they do it because they didnt WANT bugs in the game. Unless some proof they intentionally shipped the product out as defective for a lot of people, then yes, I think people should be given a little bonus, a reduced price/ free DLC, a unique skinned armor or something.

I understand that people are upset, but the idea that people think they are ENTITLED to compensation for unintentional glitches in the software when they are trying hard to fix as many as they can is utter dross.

Wait a minute, New Vegas never said on the side of the box that I would need an internet connection to play the game (the patch would make it playable again), so in a sense, they do HAVE to give us the patch. Its that or tell us that the game is terribly bugged on the side of the box and so "play at your own risk". Course if they don't want to do that they can deal with trading standards. They promised us a working game so thats what they have to deliver.

Yikes, I never joined this forum to rip on Obisidian, but it seems that so far thats all I have done. Sorry guys I wanted to come on here singing your praises but unfortunately what you served up with New Vegas falls well under my expectations of you.

I research anything that I'm laying down significant money for. Doing your due diligence is just the prudent thing to do in this day and age of reduced pride in workmanship.

That's exactly what I do. If in doubt, rent the game first.

You don't buy a car without looking at the info on it so why should games be treated any differently?

naive trust on the part of the consumer i guess..i think maybe this little fiasco has taught some of us a hard lesson..i know ill never buy another bethesda/obsidian game new again..ill wait till im sure i can trust it then go buy a used copy somewhere since bethesda/obsidian wont be getting any of my money directly or indirectly if at all possible..

Had no problems on my XBOX with Fallout, apart from some small bugs.

We're talking about PC right?
