Compensation for FONV?

Post » Tue May 10, 2011 11:23 am

They ARE compensating us, the patches they work on? They don't HAVE to do it. But they do it because they didnt WANT bugs in the game. Unless some proof they intentionally shipped the product out as defective for a lot of people, then yes, I think people should be given a little bonus, a reduced price/ free DLC, a unique skinned armor or something.

I understand that people are upset, but the idea that people think they are ENTITLED to compensation for unintentional glitches in the software when they are trying hard to fix as many as they can is utter dross.

Ahem, we arn't entiled to Nuthin! I have bugs, yes I do, tons, but I am not complaining. Its their responsibility to make patches Which they are doing.. We arnt entititled to free dlc or anything like that. You see, most people DID NOT have major bugs. So those people get free DLC??!?!?!

I don't believe the idea is about being entitled. Read the title of the thread. It's only three words and one of them is 'compensation'. Do you know what that word means?

Thinking they deserve to have free DLC and etc when they are already trying to fix it IS entitlement.

With all due respect, it is in their best interests to take care of their customers. That they're working on patches doesn't fill my heart with thanks, because those patches aren't a gift to us, they are required to bring their product to working order. Do they have to create patches? No. Of course not. But if they didn't, how many people do you think would buy their games in the future? It's good business to support your own project. They're doing that, and that makes me happy.

As far as the thread goes, I don't really care if there's a free DLC or not, but the OP has been pretty diplomatic about his idea, and it seems unfair to twist an idea that has been utilized to great effect elsewhere into some sort of selfish sense of entitlement.

But they should compensate for poor QA right?

I guess asking Rex armour for free is too much :sadvaultboy:

Were you forced to play the game?

We've been over the "pretending to believe this to fit in" thing, haven't we? I've never personally experienced this bug, but I'm not going to continue on an ignorant belief of attacking anyone who even dares to have a problem completely beyond their control in a faulty piece of merchandise simply because the faulty piece of merchandise was supposedly made by the original Fallout developers (I've heard most of the guys who have worked on the Fallout series in Obsidian actually only worked on 2). Anyone thinking without, as my AP teacher always said, "their head up their ass" on this matter should, quite frankly, never state such an irrational, self-centered, really devoted fan (censor did not do that, I posted it like that) type of claim, which even the most hardcoe Fallout 1/2 fans, which, may I remind you, you are not one of, should and typically would not say. Stop, please. Come to your own conclusions, stop being a sheep (makes you no better than the mainstream masses elitist RPG nerds complain about), and if you will not take that advice, at least lay off of people for having a faulty product they have a right to expect to work.

Why the hell should we accept faulty products, anyway? The sad truth is that there is nothing that the collective mass of gamers do, but if the most "elitist" group of gamers even thinks as you claim to (I really doubt these are your own thoughts, and such thoughts are not the thoughts that get society anywhere), they're more of shepherd-herded, mindless mass than those who would complain from what an "elitist" would perceive as a "mainsteam CoD player", for at least those people aren't so blinded by going with the flow of their supposed group as to sit back and endure such a mentality of "release broken product now, make working later", and before some wise-ass says "but it's not faulty for me", I've already stated that I've not had so many problems, either, have I not? Yet, many are, and what reason do people have to complain so vocally and truly vehemently if they have not experienced problems that they, the gamers, should not have to experience when they pay their money for this game? Perhaps some complain only to complain, as you praise/defend only to praise/defend, or perhaps some may complain merely to fit in, as you complain/defend merely to complain, but the vast majority of those complainers have problems, and you can blame them how, exactly?

You know, maybe you were on to something. Maybe we don't have to play these games, and by that, I mean don't buy them. Maybe that will stick a boot up manipulative companies' asses and tell them to release reliable products. It will never happen, of course, as not everyone interested in every product bothers to look up this stuff and, as a group, come up with some organized plot of boycott. It's all "I'll have what they're having", "I don't care, the product just looks to good to resist", and/or the "I'm just going to buy this on impulse" mentalities most of us, if not all of us, are guilty of. These things are why companies don't have to bother releasing stable products, all the time. For some legally flawed reason, they can get away with it and people follow these mindsets, and the impulse one goes for all those who pre-ordered/bought simply because it was a Fallout game/had Bethesda on the cover/etc., myself included. It's nothing that we can be blamed of as crimes, but we can complain and/or not defend these companies, at the very least.

FACT: Many people are having problems.

OPINION (mine): Companies shouldn't be defended about this, and it boils down to selfish reasons of "I'm not having a problem, so why should I care?".

Hm, better off than I am. got the save game corruption on my 9th save, about 7 hours into the game. Haven't been able to play any longer than I can survive in 1 life.

Im honestly expecting either a refund or some DLC that will last 2 months and counting until the patch release

and for some of you. I can't believe what im hearing! "I deserve free content!" Yes, that bugs me a bit to. But what your saying is, "Your not entitled to play this game"

see the similarity?

I will simply disagree with this. A company no matter what size shouldn't release something with so many issues. If a game is too big for them to tackle and complete, they shouldn't take on the challenge or delay release. People shouldn't accept faulty games as "a norm" because of it's size.

The point is I and alot of other people dont realy mind if it means more games come out that are this big. I never minded the bugs in daggerfall because it was a HUGE game and I knew I would still be playing it long after many of the bugs were gone.

The fact is people are more willing to deal with bugs then they are to deal with small games.

Im most upset is they found out the problem, and for the past several weeks they've been making a full patch. The least I would expect is that save game corruption to be put into a hot fix.

I don't mind glitching out graphics, its a massive game, and a massive game engine. I don't mind crashes. They limited themselves to xbox360 capabilities, im glad they put an extra punch in there. What im ticked about, is the fact im reading everyone saying "the strip is boring" and yet, I can't play long enough to even see a death claw!

I understand, I just simply disagree. I think had fallout been smaller, but had better bug testing, I don't think you would call it "small". It would still be an epic game, I just think in this case it was a case of "bit off more than they could chew".

I agree, I think something could be done PR wise to lessen the unfortunateness people have run into. I'v said it in other threads, you can't release something without testing it and fixing it. What if a drug company decided to release "heart medication" that didn't work properly? Law suits is what happens. That won't happen here but, maybe cheaper DLC would rock.

No, but he paid money for it. You buy products with the expectation that it will work properly. It is the same thing with buying a car or a house. Wouldn't you be mad if the construction workers or car manufacturers produced faulty products and housing?

Regardless of how benevolent or "evil" a company is, they probably won't give compensation unless it's a safety issue or they committed some sort of criminal activity towards their customers.

Actually, to clarify, nothing in my original post said "we deserve" anything. In fact, I make it clear that it would simply be a nice gesture on their part. There is nothing that I've said they SHOULD do. I simply said doing something like this would help their PR.

Huh, I misread your first post as that arrogant 13 year old 'I DESERVE IT BECAUSE I'M SPECIAL' kind of crap.

It WOULD be a nice gesture, but to be honest, I'd rather Obsidian halt the DLC train until most of the bugs are patched and stitched up.

Functioning base game > DLC

As to nice PR, it would be, but honestly, the old saying is very true, 'the bad is remembered, the good is forgotten'. Yes it would be nice of them, but the community is full of ungrateful punks (not you) who even if Obsidian made a free DLC voted best add on of the decade, people will try to discredit the game by trying to cut the old wounds back open.

Bethesda/Obsidian need to do something quick because people are getting fed up with this. Not only is there not a patch but the fact the game was allowed to ship like this.

They've got away with the last two 'Block Buster' release, so obviously there is nothing wrong with it.

I feel bad for people wth glitches. I wish that it didn't happen. I wish that the developers didn't EVER charge money for DLC, but there is such a thing as a double standard. You don't go to the movies pay, watch a bad movie/ get up and leave half way through, and demand that they give you the sequel for free. This is more like, I suppose, if one in every 200 or so people watching the movie couldn't get the movie to keep playing after the first hour. The movie theaters would be sad, and give you tickets to the next movie showing for free, as soon as they fixed the issue. This is what they are doing. they are devoting themselves to fixing the problems so that everyone who loves the game can play. You can look at any other game made in 2 years on the same scale as one made over the course of a decade and you'll see the same trend. Fallout 3 had horrendous bugs at first (though I got mine late after everything seemed to have been fixed) and so did Oblivian. the Devs didn't have much time, but they would still have to pay to make the DLC's which are amazingly popular. Offering it for free would cut a huge portion of their profit out, and ruin them. Obsidian hasn't had much success that I know of, and the majority of people on the Xbox (which is what the DLC is exclusively for) don't have these problems.

i wish you all the best with your game, and I hope that the next patch fixes it. I don't agree with making the Devs py for it though, and it's easy to get carried away when you're angry. This thread has become a breeding ground for flamers. :prod: No one has made DLC for free because of glitches because THAT WON'T FIX THE GLITCHES. It also won't get you back your money. I understand them not paying you back for the game. Is it fair? No, does it make sense? Yes. I can't get my money back if I don't like a game, I've learned he lesson the hard way that no matter what condition the game is bought in they won't take it back. The simple fact is, taht I can come in and say 'I'm glitching, can I have my money back?' (I'm lying at this point) they say 'no' and I point to where they have given someelse their money back and I get back my ony because they can't prove me wrong.

Be glad for the patch, and focus on the better things (and always back up your saves on an external port)

*note- you can use external ports for saves on any system, even xbox and PS3

Fact: Most of these glitches were from (TESIV)Oblivion...
Opinion: Get with the times...Bethesda stop using the same engine...It was good for 2006-2008 but after 2009...You stepped on the PCs growing nature...PC needs/wants/desires DX11 - 64bit - True multicore support....

Opinion/Fact: If my PC doesn't get what it wants I'll earn my compensation, by not buying the next fallout/tes game

Group for the patch and one for the DLC didn't we see that before? (It didn't end well)

I think that perhaps offering a free Dlc on there part would be like admitting perhaps something shady went down on release I think making the best patch they can and as fast as they can is what they should and are doing. Thats just how I feel about it and I might be wrong but no company wants a game to be buggy as the word off mouth is just killer . And lets be honest any new games will have that extra bit of scruitney at least as long as someone remembers. And yes I have hit almost all the 360 bugs there are but being stubborn as hell keep at it (though its been a near thing twice heh) though for some even the keep at it is not an option and I really for sorry for them but they patch will come, never fear..

Completely agree with OP. I just spent $60.00 on a game that I cannot even play due to all the game-breaking issues. I can play every other game on the market with no trouble whatsoever. However, I cannot play Fallout New Vegas for more than 5-10 minutes at a time without the game crashing.
