Is Console gaming THIS left out?

Mods are third party so you're not missing out on what the developers give you. PC mods are the nature of the beast but like with anything third party, you take your chance.

This moding community has done wonders for Oblivion, Fallout 3 and Fallout NV. Hell it has already made mods that improve performance by as much as 30% in some troublesome areas. So what chance are you taking? The worst a mod has ever done to me is make me revert to a previous save and you guys make it sound like there is a chance of having your limbs amputated lol. Worst case scenario is you’ll need to reinstall the game, OH THE HORRORS :P.

My only problem with PC is the demand for new technology. If I go out and spend $1,000 on a sweet gaming PC, more than likely that PC will get me a "wow, that's ancient" reaction in 1 - 2 years.

Am I really getting the full experience I can get with Skyrim, and maybe even future TES games on a console?

In my opinion yes absolutely... I have had some of my greatest gaming experiences on Bethesda games, and that is because of mods.

that is a false rumour spread by those who have no clue at all. My current system will last me until next next generation (PS4/720 is over whatever they are called) you only HAVE to upgrade when you CAN'T play not max two separate thing. Maxing a game requires you to update preodically playing it on high or lower doesn't you can get 4-5 years with a top teir GPU today without falling under games you can get away with a top tier CPU such as i5 2500k for longer. Some PC exlcusive titles or PC BUILT titles will require much more then majority of multiplatform titles such as Arma III and Witcher 2

For a game like Skyrim I think it's better on PC. I'm playing it on a laptop with an Xbox 360 controller and I'll connect it to my TV when I play. Feels just like playing it on the Xbox, but better. At work it's even better and I play on the projector with headphones. Very awesome seeing the Skyrim world that huge.

Only other game I've got is a rally game that also works with the controller. Did have Fallout 3 with quite a few mods as well.
I'd also second the other post - don't sell the Xbox. If I could, I'd have both. Some games I really would like to try, but they're not on the PC.

Each has pros and cons, to answer the question - I don't think one gets the full experience on a console for a game that can be modded like this.
Wow bro. I want to work where you work! Fancy getting paid to play Skyrim !

Still, pricing for a decent PC is still too much for me, where as my 360 is like $250, it lasts for years and years and years, and I don't need to upgrade it or whatever, I just put in a disk and I'm done.

Buying a computer just for games is expensive, but buying a gaming computer when you are buying a computer anyways is actually really cheap. It ends up being that 250-300$ difference that is the price of the console and it lasts you a lot longer.

and the next xbox will be $500-700 price range

Again cost is not a valid reason for the simple fact you most likely bought PC already that was WAY overpriced if you got it from any department store retailer. The only valid reason is because your last part Easy. You want easy have easy but your not going to get everything period.

So what are the cons of having Skyrim for a PC?

Steam is the only downside. Other than that, Skyrim on PC is in my opinion a vastly superior experience over consoles. That's just me. Mods are awesome.

Maybe I'll go searching for a decent PC, any suggestions are welcome.

Also another thing to discuss, will PC gaming eventually dominate the gaming world? Sounds strange I know.

that's debatable for various reasons and only effect those who do not have access to a decent connection even then you can buy a hard copy have some internet access activate it and play. But you can bring up the aruguemnt that you cannot play it unpatched which is true but that is due to BGS having absolutely no quality control and releasing broken products.

I am a intel/nvidea really devoted fan.. but AMD/Radeon is good for budget builds.

AS for your last part no, I dont see it the PC community will not go away and increase but it won't be a domination because who knows various things could happen such as Cloud gaming being built upon although even that will take some time.

(kiwi accent)
Nah bro, don't get paid to play Skyrim! :)
Only do that on weekends and that's not very often. Actually can get dizzy after a while.

On a side note, it's really hard to put on an accent on a forum. But a fellow Kiwi should be able to hear that "nah bro" bit. :)

PC mods are only there to make you feel better about having to sit in an office chair with a monitor half the the size of the HDTV you could be using to play the console version, and on a comfy couch.

Seriously, though, build your own gaming PC and keep the Xbox. You can get the best parts for not a lot of money, these days, and it won't come loaded with fluff and rootkits from the manufacturer. And then in a year, just pop a new video card in there ... boom! Up to date.

Since I'm a nub at PC gaming (obviously) and with PCs in general, links are nice. Maybe to their websites and stuff.

If you don't know much about computers, do Dell. You can really knuckle down and learn all the intricacies and blow a couple grand easy... or you can get yourself a decent priced machine for 1200$ or lower. If you get it on a good deal weekend, your looking at more like 800$.

I ended up this time and didn't want to hassle with building my won rig (Had done it multiple times before), so I called Dell. I would recommend. Most of their sales reps get commission, so they will be trying to cut you a deal.

Also, Bensbargains.com. This site posts daily deals for most sites. The good thing about it, is that it keeps track of coupon codes for most sites... so you can get a coupon code for 30% off something here, or 20% off there, it saves you a lot in the long run.

Another thing to consider, and I didn't know this but was corrected in the past, the difference in the amount of money you spend on a gaming PC or a console isn't terribly different in the long run these days. Especially considering the price of new consoles these days... and if you want to remain a loyal console player, you'll need to do that upgrade... is it this year the new generation comes out?

Yep! Mods are worth it no question. It cracks me up when people claim PC gaming is expensive. If you compare content to price, PC gaming is dirt cheap. How much would it cost for you to get thousands of hours worth of content on one of the consoles? Games like Skyrim last a long time and are a good value. But must games are fairly short for the $60 cost of buying them. With Oblivion we easily got several hundreds of hours worth of really good free content. Some of it was garbage but a lot of it was great. Also you need a PC anyway. Why not game on it? I don't need to play video games, but I most certainly need to have a PC.

Get a gaming PC you will be glad you did.

I got Morrowind and loved it. I got Oblivion and loved it. I got Skyrim and loved it. Yet, all become stale after playing them too much.

Skyrim is new, yet even now i am starting to get a bit bored of it simply because i feel like i have nothing else to find, no reason to explore any more. The reason i am still playing Skyrim now (and Morrowind) is because of the mods. Once the CK is released and some time has passed there will be mods that add entire quest lines, cities, new places to explore, new enemies and much more. A lot of which are just as good if not better than some of the content made by Bethesda themselves.

There is nothing wrong with playing on the console, you still get a great game. On the PC however, you get the same game that you can tweak to your personal desire. Not just with Skyrim, but the majority of PC games. Also, i don't know why people keep saying you have to upgrade every 2-3 years.. you do not. Not to mention PC games are cheaper on release than console games. So, if like me you buy a lot of games then that money you save can go towards your pc upgrades when the time does come to upgrade.

To try and help, I'm on a laptop, Samsung QX412.

It's a mid range laptop, compared to price of an Xbox, it's about 3 times the price when I bought it (bout 4 months ago). It's not the beefiest thing in the world but I can run high graphics at 720p resolution which I think would be very close to the Xbox. Laptop couldn't push out true HD though. Can run Fallout 3 no worries at all. With newer games the laptop would have issues playing them most likely and I'd have to crank down the detail.

But that's if you want a laptop, with a desktop, I would recommend the same as the post said above, I'd go with Dell.

What I usually do is go to Youtube, type in the game name followed by the model of graphics card and you can get an idea of what is required to play a game.

That's rather short sighted.

A lot of people who make mods ARE professional game designers. Sometimes people use mods as their resume.

Further, there are plenty of mods I have played that put as much time and consideration into their product as any development team. Anything that takes hundreds of hours to make, really has to be crap, before you can call it cheap, and not get spit on in the street.

Mind you, there is a lot of crap mods... but there is also a lot of crap everything. There are a lot of crap people for instance.

I would say yes and keep the console for halo, too bad MS won't let the last three halo's out on machine.

There are a world of talented people out there with brilliant ideas for mods, some are crap and usually thats a persons first tender steps into modding, some mods don't work, some work perfectly.

I could'nt run SkUI no matter what i did until patch 1.4 came out, now i'm happy as larry.

Hell i woke up this morning thinking "YES!" the kit is out today then i remembered nz is a day ahead of the rest of the world SUK!

I play skrim constantly and use a jump mod so i can jump the mountains, look around a bit and ive found a few chests that without the mod and just straight vanilla theres no way one could get at them at all,i don't use the camera you can forget where you've been.
