Is Console gaming THIS left out?

Post » Sat Jun 09, 2012 2:11 pm

I'm a proud 360 owner, and I love Skyrim, but I'm feeling the need to sell this Xbox and buy myself a decent PC, if possible.

There's almost endless possibilities to what modders can do with Skyrim, let alone any TES game, and I feel like I'm left out in the cold right now. I go on TES Nexus from time to time just to see what somebody has come up with today, and I can't believe in a matter of months how much content is there. So I ask the question, is it worth it? Am I really getting the full experience I can get with Skyrim, and maybe even future TES games on a console?

The second I can afford a gaming PC, I'm definatly going after one, but that's a whole nother' topic.

If you think the mods so far are amazing you haven't seen anything yet. Once the tools are released tomorrow the real good stuff starts flowing in :hehe:

And personally i would not have paid full price for Skyrim if the tools wouldn't be released. Nor would i buy a Bethesda game for console (because my console is a PS3 :hehe:). Bethesda makes great worlds, but atleast for me the rest leaves something to be desired

If you got Oblivion for a console you missed out on at least 65% of the content, probably a lot more. Some mods are buggy, but so is the vanilla game and even the hella-bugged mods are often worth it.

Judging by the amount of mods to date and the enthusiasm of the Skyrims modding community, Skyrim mods will outperform Oblivion mods in quantity and quality very quickly.

+1

I have over 20 mods installed and not one of them causes bugs or glitches.

I was running about 80 mods on Oblivion. No problems at all. Some mods after trying I didn't care for and just deleted. Easy. Believe me it's worth it to get the computer version. The unofficial patch that fixes all the errors Bethesda doesn't bothe with alone is worth it. one glitch in the unmodded game had the frame rate slowing to a crawl after a certain number of saves. A mod fixed this. An even if you are OK with the unmodded games making mods yourself even if it is no more than a cabin in the woods is a fun part of the game itself. An opportunity to be creative.

I would rather have access to console commands on the 360 for hot fixes

If you go PC, don't sell the Xbox. That's a bit extreme. You won't get a lot for it used anyways. Think of it this way, there's a lot of games the PC doesn't have or aren't as fun on anyways.

Short answer...YES!!!

But I can understand there might be reasons to own a console. I personally don't have any so I don't own a console, but I have in the past and just didn't utilize it enough so I gave it away.

For a game like Skyrim I think it's better on PC. I'm playing it on a laptop with an Xbox 360 controller and I'll connect it to my TV when I play. Feels just like playing it on the Xbox, but better. At work it's even better and I play on the projector with headphones. Very awesome seeing the Skyrim world that huge.

Only other game I've got is a rally game that also works with the controller. Did have Fallout 3 with quite a few mods as well.
I'd also second the other post - don't sell the Xbox. If I could, I'd have both. Some games I really would like to try, but they're not on the PC.

Each has pros and cons, to answer the question - I don't think one gets the full experience on a console for a game that can be modded like this.

Consoles are just a simply easy direction that's it that is the only one valid argument that console brings nothing more nothing less.

And by taking the easy route brings in limitations unlike PC consoles are in control of some company like MS and Sony and you go sign a very detailed agreement that restricts you to use your console outside of their control or your console and account will be compromised. To be honest I wouldn't actually say buy a PC just for Skyrim because Skyrim is a pretty bad port to begin with and I describe it as bethesda releasing a sandbox that has a hole in it that the modding community fills then build upon. But I would suggest to buy PC for every other title out there and the endless list of exclusives but again only do so if you plan on using it buying a PC for one game and just one game is an idiotic decision buying a PC to be your main platform that you spend loads of time on pretty damn good decision and get the best of all worlds due to it.

I love my 360 also. I do at times envy pc players the mods. The face creation mods and the different cloths/armors. That said, I mostly play in 1st person anyway, I don't see my char very often, unless I want to, to take pic's, which is were my big envy comes in.

IF I really wanted a gamming pc I know my husband would get one for us. Thing is by the time the next Elder Scrolls game comes out, I'd probably need a new pc anyway to play that one. I'll probably need a new x-box, but they come one heck of alot cheaper.

Each to their own. I can see alot of reasons to play Skyrim on pc, I can't see Skyrim as the reasn to buy a gamming pc.

Probably only the cost, I can't really say as I don't own any consoles.

even that doesn't come into play as the majority of the people will consoles most likely have a PC for the home that was overpriced because they bought it from a major retailer such as wal mart or best buy etc.

Only con of PC gaming is that you need to think a wee bit. That's it

So what are the cons of having Skyrim for a PC?

Slightly more effort to setup than an Xbox. This is considering people who just want to insert the disc and play a game. Wouldn't really consider it a "proper" con. Take for instance my gammy (yes, I stole that word and I like it). My gammy would probably have more difficulty playing Skyrim on a PC rather than a console.

I guess to get the same setup from a PC that compares to an Xbox (ie. sit on couch, play on TV) requires slightly more effort than just using an Xbox.

Obviously doesn't just apply to Skyrim.

If that makes sense? Kinda going beyond just the game really.

Hopefully this will change soon if Bethesda finds a way for the mods to be used on consoles, However any Bethesda fan will have their eyes on the PC version to experience just how much life & longevity mods add to Bethesda games.

It's hard to remember any vanilla Bethesda experience apart from Skyrim, Been using mods so long now & they are a fundemental & crucial part of the game for me, My world would be empty without Timeslip,Hattix, Emma, Llama, Adonnay,NMC, Qarl, Martigen & Francesco.

You are missing out & i do feel for the console lot.(that is until you get the DLC a month early;))

Computers have kinda been around for a while now and I would say most of the “gamers” are skilled in their use, but I see your point.

It's much better with mods, sorry. Anyone who says different probably never used them before (or used the wrong ones). So yeah, console gamers really are that left out.

Even if mods for consoles becomes legal their use one consoles will have to be very limited. Almost all major mods would break console Oblivion on XBOX. I don’t even want to think of what major Skyrim mods would do to the XBOX

Mods are third party so you're not missing out on what the developers give you. PC mods are the nature of the beast but like with anything third party, you take your chance.

The ONLY way that will happen is if Bethesda themselves sets up a site to monitor test/release each mod that is sent in then get approval from MS and Sony (MS being the worst for good reason) and knowing both MS and Sony (especially MS) they will find someway to charge for it because it is going through their systems and they want cash and Betheda as well because they need to pay those who monitor it somehow.

This to me sounds like a HORRIBLE set up even half of that of course you could go to the extreme route and add a "If you mdo your console may break" because you do not have the accessibility as you do with a PC and able to delete said mod from he game file. And if you install a wrong mod you will lose your game or worse your entire system.

Both scenarios are horrible

Once you start playing a game like TES with mods, you will never believe that you ever played them without mods. The saying that, 'ignorance is bliss' is very true here. If you do decide to start using mods on a PC don't ever expect to go back to your console version. You will find it almost impossible to play and have it feel right ever again.
