Yes. Everything else is speculation and conjecture! But isn't it funny?

It was fun 27 threads ago... now the same stuff gets repeated over and over again. I wonder why Bethesda chose to wait for the E3 to announce a simple expansion/DLC... Don't they have some bigger surprises or new games in the pipeline to announce and showcase?

Hype to sell more products but I believe this will backfire is Dragon's Dogma becomes huge. I also think they are going to announce Rage DLC and other things at E3 so they are probably going for major hype but if I have to hear at E3 some that I have to wait another 2-3 months I'm not going to be happy. At E3 I'm hoping to hear it will be out in only a few weeks and we'll probably get a trailer.

Well, since this thread is new, I'll try to put together all our speculation so far. I know I am biased by my own opinions, so if I forget something, please tell it.

All the official, confirmed information we have about the first DLC is the image on Bethblog and its name : Dawnguard.

Besides, leaked data from the last patch features a Snow Elf Prince, vampire feeding animations, crossbows and a mysterious "RF", suggesting that all will appear in the first DLC. Maybe a "Riekling Follower" or a "Restored Falmer"? But maybe the Devs have intentionally let those data leak in order to mislead us, and give us a real surprise?

And finally, we all saw the content from the Game Jam.

Now, let's see what the theories built so far are.

1. Molag Bal, Azura, the Twin Lamps.

In the last thread, railtracer realized that the connection between Falmers and vampires could be Molag Bal. Molag Bal created the first vampire, Lamae Beolfag, the Blood-Matron. Moreover, Molag Bal is the Prince of Domination and Enslavement of the Mortals. Therefore, he might be involved in the narcotic enslavement of the Falmers by the Dwemers and its perpetuation even after the Disapearnce of the Deep Ones.

Azura's followers have already fought against vampires in the past, the specific example of Dratik appeared in Oblivion. Moreover, Azura is the Prince of Dusk and Dawn. Thus, Dawnguard could be the name of a faction of her worshippers, who struggles against Molag Bal. Let's expand a little railtracer's ideas...

Alas, Moonshadow is said to be so beautiful that it turns the ones who visit it blind or mad. Well. Maybe the Dovahkiin's glowing eyes are in fact an outer sign of the change which happened after his coming to Moonshadow? Maybe other people visited it in the past, and came back with such eyes, and were then wrongly considered blind? Or maybe those eyes are a blessing from Azura, allowing its wielder to walk into Moonshadow without harm?

The natural opponents of the Prince of Enslavement see to be the Twin Lamps encountered in Morrowind. Now, would it be possible that its name originate in such a blessing of Azura, that the founder of this order had two glowing eyes, and was seen by his or her followers as the wielder of "Twin Lamps"? Could the Twin Lamps of Morrowind be actually a subfaction of a larger Dawnguard?

So a new hero, blessed by the "Twin Lamps", could have to free the Falmer from their perpetuated enslavement, restore them, and then fight against the worshippers of Bal's creature, Lamae Beolfag.

(Besides, if Lamae is featured in a DLC, or her followers, I hope we'll also meet the Shrieking Winds.)

2. An insular DLC.

Since the Snow Prince sepulchar was located in Solstheim, and since the East Empire Company is featured in Skyrim, one could consider that we'll have to go back there.

Besides, the flying vampires featured in the DLC don't look like the Volkhiars described in the lore, who passwall through the ice of frozen haunted lakes. They could arise from another strain of porphyric hemophilia. So where would another clan of Vampire, possibly worshipping Lamae Beolfag, be located? Maybe on the island of Olenveld, which was Talos' personal graveyard.

Finally, some Falmers could have fled to Roscrea instead of seeking shelter by the Dwemers, and they could be lead by their new Prince and claim their lands back, making Roscrea a possible location for the DLC? Moreover, the existence of Roscrea is acknowledged, but nothing is known about it, so the Devs would be entirely free to build it hte way they want.

If the three islands are featured, one could also hope to visit the Castles of Glass and Coral of the Dreughs, in the Sea of Ghosts, which would please the many ones who want to visit places drastically different from Skyrim.

3. Meridia.

Another hypothesis is that the DLC would be focused on Meridia. Arguments in that direction is that Meridia's blade is called Dawnbreaker, that shines like the Dovahkiin's eyes, and that among the servants of Meridia are the Aurorans. The English meaning of the latin word "Aurora" is "Dawn".

4. The Dream of the Thalmor.

Since the Thalmor wants to create a new Dawn Era, it has also been hypothetized that the DLC could revolve around the Thalmor. Maybe as a continuation of the Civil War.

5. The Guardians of Dawnstar.

Dawnstar was once besieged by the Ice Tribe, who were possibly Falmers. Maybe the Dawnguard is some faction created to prevent it from happening again?

6. The Dawn is what rises from the East.

Maybe the Dawn is a metaphor for "something rising from the East"? Then either from Morrowind or Akavir?

We know that the Tsaesci already invaded Tamriel, and that some akaviri magic involves dusk and dawn, as is proven by the blade called Dawnfang.

Besides, the Kamal already tried to invade Morrowind. Maybe Rieklings and Grahls are refugees of the disaster of Vvardenfell? Also, one could think that the Ice Tribes weren't Falmers but came from Kamal? After all, a Gehenoth looks more like a Snow Demon than like a Snow Elf, and the existence of an Ice Tribe Haven suggest that the Ice Tribes came from the seas. Also, some Snow Elves could have fled to Kamal rather than seeking help from the Dwemers. Now, they could come back and claim their old lands?

7. Werebears.

The Dovahkiin of this new picture looks more tired than before, and has more facial hair. This, and the glowing eyes suggests that he could be ill, or cursed, or something between the two. We saw from the Game Jam video that the Devs have thought to introduce werebears, and indeed, werebears are mentioned in the lore. Maybe the Dovahkiin's facial hair is grwoing because he is about to be transformed into a werebear?

8. Nirnroot.

We know that the ancient Nirnroot had a yellow glow. Does it have anything to do with the Dovahkiin's glowing eyes?

9. Dawn's Beauty

Tamriel means "Dawn's beauty" So, could the DLC feature a new threat to the whole of Tamriel?

10. Mythic Dawn.

Dawnguard could have something to do with the Mythic Dawn. There is a museum of the Mythic Dawn in Dawnstar.

11. Pelinal, Morihaus.

We know that Morihaus wath "the Breath of Kyne" and was associated to the thu'ums. We know that Pelinal came from the future, that he drank the blood of his ennemies in victory ("Vampire feeding animations"...), that his hand was shining (as the Dovahkiin's eyes?) and that he missed the Blessing of Talos. So, could the Dovahkiin become Pelinal? Could he miss Talos' blessing due to the Thalmor's prohibition?

So, feel free to add the ones I have forgotten, as well as new ones, and new suggestions.

Actually, this wasn't 27 threads ago. The first 16 threads were called "Unofficial DLC discussion". The threads have been more centered on Dawnguard for only ten threads now.

When Skyrim came, many have complained about it being rushed to meet the 11.11.11 deadline. That this time, they refuse to get caught in a deadline, indicates in my opinion that Bethesda has heard this criticism and took it into account. Maybe it means that they care about us.

Agreed, though I think it is probably closer to the fact that they don't want to end up like EA because they demonstrated that it was possible to actually piss off your entire fan base no matter how dedicated. Plus I think Bethesda is full of actually gamers so there is that as well. Glad they have finally learned.

I'm not asking for a release date though, I'm asking for some decent information and not another hype storm. Patients is a virtue but it only goes so far and with other games coming out competing for my dollar I don't appreciate being jerked around. Though one could speculate that the first announcement with the poster was more a reaction of the code leak and fanbase discontent over the Kinect announcement.

Here is my wishlist for the new skyrim dlc. Btw, this is for ALL future dlc's not just dawnguard so hope you consider putting these in future dlc packs:

- New and better assassins armor (top priority)
- Have a "become a flying vampire lord" power or a werewolf lord
- Edit the crime punishment like maybe have a death warrant for killing the emperor and if so you need to have a disguise to avoid attention in the city.
- Bring in vampire and werewolf perks
- Bring back hardcoe mode and have eating animations
- Skyrim mod and map builder for 360 ( even though I know its not going to happen lol )
- I'd like to know more about the dwemer
- Need vampire guild and werewolf guild (maybe at war with eachother?)
- Add more continuating guild quests like the random quests you get when you finish a guild questline I'd like to see more of that.
- have little elven children running around
- A very long and very challenging dungeon
- Travel to one of the other province's
- Be able to wear and enchant the queen barenziah helmet
- Join the Thalmor and conquer skyrim
- More enchantment effects like weapons on fire
- Have hand to hand skill perk tree
- Have people hate you for being a bad guy or love you for being a good guy
- Conquer something in the dlc like expand the empire or stormcloak territory
- Own a keep, castle, or stronghold instead of a house
- Another "blackreach"
- Add claw weapons
- Make sure to bring in crossbows :)
- Have an evil ending or good ending to every quest in dlc
- Get a wizards tower, thieves den, or assassins hideout
- Catch thieves breaking into your house and kill them
- Super-fast dagger duel-wielding attacks
- Change the vampires up, make it to where the hungrier you get the weaker you become
- Add grenades for alchemy
- Ability to set traps aside from runes
- More sneak kill animations
- Daedric ruins
- Join a new guild

Hmm...I think thats it. If I come up with more stuff I'll let you know. :)

Indeed, I am not waiting for a release date at E3 either, but honnestly I would be disappointed if we hadn't much more information, and information confirming that it was worth waiting. Actually, the more I wait for this DLC, the higher my expectations. Now I expect it to be very original and very ambitious, amazing and mind-blowing.

I still reckon it will be an expanding of the Vigilant of Stendaar. They who talk about bringing the light to the darkest places, and protecting the people of Skyrim from Werewolves, Vampire and the Daedra - principally creatures of the night. The number of 'Light' and 'Dawn' phrasings used by them so far seems like a hint to me.

They'd fit pretty well in the Molag Bal vs Azura war mentioned above, as a third faction, ennemies of both Azura and Bal.

Also, Dawn might be "what breaks darkness", so maybe Dawnguard could involve some war between Namira and some other faction? Either Priests of Arkay or followers of Ebonarm?

Yeah that will be a problem because the longer they wait the more we expect out of them. I just hope when it comes out I don't have to create another character to play through as because the expansion finishes the economy system or something. The expansion should be playable at with old characters.

I had to create a new character after my one play through became too buggy with characters missing and quests unfinishable. Though I must say I like my new character more.

I'm starting to worry that the complete lack of information on Dawnguard is proof that this dlc is going to be small and rather uninspired to be honest.
If this dlc really is as huge and epic as the hype Bethesda has created suggests, why can't they release some info on it before E3... Surely there would still be more than enough so announce if this dlc has as much to offer as we all hope?

Wow..you are able to judge something before that its even out ? a bit of patience and a positive attitude perhaps would be more satisfactory

its called "marketing" ...the less you say,the more will be the "hype" around your product.

When "Dawnguard" will be out of course everyone of us will be able to judge it on the basis of his preferences/tastes

@ Cicero

Of course I'm not able to judge a dlc before it is out, I said that I worry that it might be small and uninspired, since they apparently feel like even a single hint to go with the picture would have ruined the surprise, that's all. I also don't see you telling people who have high expectations that they shouldn't judge the dlc before it is out, eventhough it's essentially the same. That's not really fair.

Also: The pessimists are the true optimists, no matter what happens, we are always pleasantly surprised.

But yeah, I really want a crossbow, that'd be neat.

One thing I'm wondering, is if crossbows are added, would they have their own skill tree? Or will Crossbows fall under "Archery"?

You are able to judge a wine before drinkin' it ? or a meal before eating it ? I think you've misunderstood what i'm wrote, really

The fact that we have only a picture for now doesn't mean nothing; you remember what i've said above about "marketing" ?

Having "high expectations" doesn't means that you can be able to judge a book only by the cover. Perhaps it would be more "fair" even give here the first "impressions/suppositions" when we will have the first substantial news from the developers ,don't you agree ?
