Dawnguard and Future DLC Discussion - Thread #34

Post » Fri Jun 15, 2012 4:50 am

Everyone seems a little too worried about this dlc in my opinion. Remember, this isn't a twilight love story!
I'm not worried in the slightest, and personally vampires never grabbed me in any of the elder scrolls (there was never a point to them)

There was never a point for dragons, elves or anything else. Now vampires get their deserved spotlight.

Sorry probably should have clarified, I meant their was never really a point to being a vampire. It was flat and lacking. Plus once dragons entered the story, there was a point to them, they where pivotal to the story and the gameplay and just generally an interesting feature to interact with. But now with this dlc, something exciting is being done with the vampires. I love the entire concept of this dlc.

Isn't the magic itself at risk being seriously weakened by a disappearance of the sun? If I recall well, the sun is a hole created by Magnus when he journeyed to Aetherius, and it is the main source of Magicka in Nirn, isn't it?

Besides, in case the sun would be occulted/obstructed/veiled/distroyed, don't you think the Psijic Order,
Spoiler
now owning Magnus' eye,
would try to repair it?

I really wonder how they'll manage the consequences of this in further DLCs and in TES VI...

And I am really impatient to discover Dawnguard's story and the new lore it'll bring...

You are correct, the sun is the hole left after Magnus said "Screw this crap I'm outta here" (lol more or less) and so yeah, I ... don't see how they could do anything but block it using more magic, but it'd have to be daedric based I think. /ramble

As to the shrine shown, pause the video at 0:25. You're correct in that the head is like that on Molag Bal's shrine, but the method of it dripping down is exactly like that of Namira's. http://images.uesp.net/6/62/SR-quest-The_Taste_of_Death_03.jpg

Frankly, I'm very sad if this is more vampire stuff, because while I agree that there's not much point to being a vampire or anything, this just doesn't seem to fit TES vampiric lore. =/

I also love how no one is really talking about how a dragon took a swan-dive into the water. Is that a new attack or something?

Vampires in Nirn aren't effected by Garlic.

Anyone else just plainly hate vampires? They're generic, unexciting and have been more than done to death. I was really hoping for a more creative DLC along the lines of Shivering Isles.

It seems to me that Magnus isn't being obstructed, only changed. See how it turns red? I think they're using magic to put some kind of filter on it, changing the light to something not harmful to vampires. If so, I think it's probable that it wouldn't affect Magicka at all (because as we all know, vampires like their Magicka, and wouldn't want to see it snuffed out.)

Molag Bal seduced Vivec and spawned a group of mutant degenerates in the Molag Amur region of Morrowind. This group became the first eventual vampires.
Suggests that the dlc is based in a part of Morrowind.
I think that the vampires in Dawnguard are the vampire in this group because of the alter of Molag Bal in the trailer.
Also the Emblem of Molag Bal on the armour makes me that the purple hole thing is Coldharbour

The first vampire was a woman named Lamae Beolfag.

I feel the same way. Vampires and Werewolfs are just your standard mythic thing, and have been done by many franchises.
I was hoping for one on the other provinces or based on daedra. (SCAMPS!)
Or anything but vampires.

Anyone else discovered http://i.imgur.com/5YUou.jpg?1in the new patch 1.6? :P

Not a very subtle hint there, Bethesda :D Seems like 1.6 will be the last version of the game before Dawnguard, so it has the support for it built into the game already. Dawnguard will probably be 1.7...

DLC #2 will feature the land of make believe where you have a quest to steal a leprechaun's lucky charms in exchange for a Daedric artifact.
