Dawnguard Gameinformer details #4

Post » Thu Jun 14, 2012 8:50 pm

It'd probably include a new "Power" you could select.

Instead of just "Beast Form," you could select "Beast Form: Werebear"
It would be best to just provide a way to contract that form of lycanthropy, instead of making it a perk. It's not an ability you can learn.

Many assumed it was because mounted combat is still at an experimental stage. The article leads to believe it's a design decision. Very... Shortsighted and inexplicable, if true!
Splash damage and tripping your own traps/runes would be a big problem with doing it on horseback, since the horse is its own creature and will get hit by friendly fire. Some problem when using magic with followers, they end up getting hit all the time by your explosive spells.

Agreed, just throwing out a possible means for including both.

On a related note: Is it possible for one to contract multiple forms of Lycanthropy? I know it gives you an immunity to disease, but I imagine Hircine might smile upon you and grant you additional powers if you won his favor.

I am so glad that decided to redesign what oblivion realm is supposed to be like, and that vampire hunter fort looks stunning! :shocking:

There's no precedent for that happening, that I"m aware of. It also brings up the question, given that you're (supposed to be) forced to change under a full moon, which form would such a person change into?

Gameinformer has other articles so they are fine.
How much do you think bethesda lost in advertising fees because of the leak though?

They are not going to allow leaks to float around their own website because that would just be throwing their own money away.

Now this is horribly derailing the thread, if you really need it further explained pm me or a mod, as im not going to keep getting off topic. This is probably too far already...

I am subscribed to Game Informer. When I get my copy, I can read every single word and post every single page of the magazine on the internet, in public, to a friend, etc. completely legally (being banned from this forum for it is based on a RULE, not a LAW, btw). You guys keep saying it's "leaked" info. It is absolutley NOT leaked when it's in a printed publication currently distributed around the entire world. Walk to a gas station, Wal-Mart, bookstore, etc. and you can have a copy NOW. Not to mention, you can go in a store and read GI cover to cover, and walk out without even buying it! The ignorance of some people about this kind of thing is astounding.

"leaked info" my ass

EDIT: Sorry for ranting, but people seem to misunderstand the rules about "scans" vs. public info on this forum. Not you specifically, CoL.

Wild Werewolves and other Werebeasts
Ways to recontract lycanthropy
Forced lunar transformations
Volkihar that pull you under the ice
Underwater combat (to deal with the above)
A dragon with stegosaurus plates and spiked tail
Pets
Aedric questlines
Expanded guild quests

I got a lot of stuff in mind, but I'm a greedy guy.

This is more than a good start though.
Forced lunar transformations can be done for the "wild werewolf' variety, and they could even feature an artifact to prevent the transformations (The Ring of Hircine is the artifact in lore that can prevent forced transformations) or (or rather "and" instead of "or") have a sidequest to remove the cyclical transformations. Also, I think the underwater combat is coming in Dawnguard. Finally, when were capes, flails and morningstars confirmed, anyway? I don't remember anyone confirming those.

You unlock "Perks" by feeding as a vampire/ using vampiric drain, and werewolves unlock it I think by feeding and clawing people.
This is what I wanted your actions to progress your leveling up as a vampire or a werewolf these things are a disease not a skill and I am glad they are in a different format than the skills are in.

Very true maybe it would be spreadsheety if mages used magic on a horse mages are getting shafted again it looks like.

Give me my spell creation and my back catalog of spells dating at least back to Morrowind and the none magic users can have horseback riding all to themselves.

What this about cloaks, morningstars, and flails? Is that confirmed or just desired?

I've been wondering the same. I think it is currently just all speculation. Unless someone can find hard evidence confirming these items, such as references to them in one of the recent patches or a reliable source confirming them, we'll have to assume the information about cloaks, morningstars and flails is false, I'm afraid.

Velvet surfaces and some gravity mumbochumvo were confirmed in some patch files :)

Cloaks or some sort of cape was seen in the Dawnguard trailer on the Daughters back.

- Will it have new landmass? I'm not asking for High Rock or anything  But at least a few new areas linked to the main geography perhaps? I'd be pretty sad if this didn't come with new points of interest beyond the two castles.
a new plane of oblivion, two castles (Fort dawnguard and Castle Volkihar) and probably more.

Or they can come up with a lore reason why the Companions are now forced to turn into werewolves in the full moon. Maybe after the Witche's were killed, the pact was broken.

I think the Companions are different kinds of Werewolves, we became one by cutting our veins open and taking in Aela's blood in that weird Altar thingy. Normal Werewolves who would attack you in the wild if they were there bite you/attack you etc. And infect your bloodstream with the disease. So i think it's different

I am hoping we get a new land mass more is always good. There is certainly nothing wrong with exploring new land that always makes everybody happy.

I am also wishing to see this plain of Oblivion I have never played Battlespire so I think it would be great to see the Soul Cairn.

I thought it was the same type but you get it willingly. I am all in for different types though.

Really hoping that Werebears make it in as well. Maybe as the final perk in the Lycanthropy tree like someone else mentioned?

You mean like a werewolf turning into a werebear? I don't think that would make sense seeing as the kind of werecreature you are is permanent (unless you get Hircine himself to change you, which is a stretch). A werelion can't all of a sudden change into a wereshark after all.

I wish they added in the werebears and you could become infected by one of them that would be interesting. I would not like to see a perk added into the werewolf line where you van miraculously transform into another type of creature that just does not make any sense what so ever.

They're different because of the witches. And it takes 3 days to become a werewolf after drinking their blood or getting bitten. That took a few seconds.
