Dawnguard.....terrible?

The dlc is a rip off. Just wait till skyrim goty. Or dont get it at all. The colledge of winterhold had a better faction base than these 2 new rushed factions.

Let's all be careful with throwing the "troll" word around.

Calling someone a troll, regardless of their message content is viewed as spam and is against the Forum rules.

I don't really want to see anyone get banned, so someone doesn't agree with someone else's posts, I recommend just ignoring them.

I haven't had anyone die from vampire attacks

You decide to block out the sun if you want, and it's only for 12 hours

Aela will make you a Wearwolf again.(this was added in the dlc)

But seriously, I wouldn't listen to godfist. I've had so much fun on this dlc and I have played nonstop since the beta, as I was a tester, with about 5 or 6 characters including pretty much all lvls, and I HAVEN'T HAD ANY NPC'S DIE YET.

I've had a few die, but I play on master difficulty, so its to be expected. I just reload though, if they're shopkeepers or someone I like. Only had a problem in whiterun when fast travelling to dragonsreach, and they spawn at the main gate. I just stopped fast travelling there though to make sure.

The Vampires do not at all wipe out towns, if you are quick enough you can wipe them out before they killed anyone, nobody died in my game yet...
You can keep your Werewolf powers if you wish, but you have to lose them
if you wish to join the Vampires rather than Dawnguard, but that is obvious.

The sun doesn't disappear forever, how away you can block it
out temporary anytime you want.

I personally thought the DLC was brilliant, as far as I know it didn't break any lore.
It added two smallish sized new areas.
New books
New side quests
A ton of new armor and weapons
Craftable Dragonbone Weapons and Any type of arrows.
Even the new NPCs, on both factions are very interesting.

I'd easily rate Dawnguard 9/10

I was super stoked when I seen on Xbox live that Dawnguard came out yesterday! But then I got to reading reviews and so on......and everyone basically said it svcks! Your towns get completely wiped out, for the most part! The sun goes away for good! You can no longer be a werewolf if you previously were! My big thing is that the vampires kill almost EVERYONE in your towns, as soon as you download the [censored]! So I am postponing buying this DLC! Maybe someone can make me change my mind? I am a Skyrim fanatic, it's pretty much my favorite game, but I am so disappointed in this, from all the reviews I've read!
I thinh that this was misinformed my character is still a werewolf I have'nt seen towns wiped out the sun never went away. ps I sided with the dawnguard

The vampire attacks aren't quite as bad as everyone is making out but they do svck. You have to be super vigilant for the rest of your life while you play this game if you dont want your npcs killed.

The content is also pretty sparse for the price. I get that Beth are working on a bunch of different stuff ATM so that's the reason why, but if they don't have the manpower to produce a quality product they should not undertake the project.

Skyrim goty?
Game of The Year edition, Beth usually gives the first two DLC's in a pack with the base game for lower price than at lauch. Its acronym is GOTY. But seriously, aside from the bugs I have been really enjoying this DLC.

What?
Don't ask. It's just some forum drama.

And ffs, buy the damn dlc. It's very good and after many, many hours of play I only lost 3 npcs to vampires, which I was able to circumvent by simply reloading and killing the vampires faster. Don't give into the fear mongering and instead just buy it and see for yourself.

I've enjoyed it; The thing is fun as far as add ons go. It took me WAYYYYYY more than 10 hours. I guess it
would be 10 hours if you used a walkthrough or just breezed through. I messed around, tried collecting
heavy falmer armor to use, before even getting to the vale area that much (which is stuffed with it.)
Then I was done with the main quest, but realized I'd still not got all 5 paragon gems, etc. That added more time there.

I've done the main quest, as dawnguard, as well as most other quests and gained the 5 paragons/areas etc.

I've yet to have vampires wipe out towns.

My main city/home is markarth, I've only seen vampires there once at night in a raid. Guards were pretty much
handling them, with my group helping out on the last one.

I'm also 81, done all the regular main quests and such; Dawnguard might not be something to install
if you are still doing the main game. At this point it doesn't really matter to me if they kill
some townspeople.

That is how I see dawnguard; It is something for you to install, then do, when done with the main game.
It is that kind of "Add on."

I lost Lod in my regular game, then realized what he was for some 45 levels later. I was also a "goody
two shoes " on two daedric quests, not knowing that reamed me. So even doing the thine where you
get both artifacts from Hircine, I'm at 13 for that achievement. How much more likely would you be
to lose lod NOW? I mean, the guy folds like paper but beelines for any dragon in the regular game.

You will have A LOT more fun with this DLC, if you are done with the regular game and the possibility
of vamps is moot.

Here is a video of a vampire attack http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v80gUzq6Ec8

Judge for yourself and be warned it varies on how frequent this happens. There have been reports on it happening 2 times a day. Also it can happen in different parts of the city like in solitude, they will show up across city not giving you enough time to get to the kill zone so they have already decimated a number of NPC's.

I'm on the fence about buying at the moment also due to this issue. Everything else sounds really good but this feature doesn't sit well with me at all.

Ive just started my first new character since Dawnguard.
Random vampire attacks are a minor nuisance, due to me saving before I fast travel to or enter any city. (Or I time to arrive in daylight.)
Yes, it is true that some NPC's may die. If youre a nitpicker about that like I am, reload.

Point of fact is that this is no more of an annoyance than being attacked by the Dark Brotherhood on installing Tribunal.
Yes, its slightly annoying, yes the way to effectively deal with it is to meta and not to roleplay.

But as with Tribunal, the content of Dawnguard more than makes up for this minor and rare annoyance.
On my previous character I started as a level 50 and after I dispatched of a mob in a city they never hit it again.

Now that I am a level 20 and its hard to kill them before they kill an NPC.. Save, reload or arrive at daytime.

No, it is not a new species.
Lets just say that there is a distinction between the Falmer and the Betrayed ;)

everyone talks about vampires wiping out towns but it's pretty simple to prevent.
  • I'm pretty sure that vampires will only spawn in a city/town if you are in it
  • If they will spawn it will be within the first couple minutes of you entering the cell
  • they will more often spawn during the night than day

So to minmise damage
  • fast travel less frequently (as people already do due to dragons)
  • When you enter a city hang around the guards by the gate for about 30 seconds
  • try and get the vampire to focus on you, a follower, or a guard

Ding, ding, ding we have a winner.
Also, never forget to save and reload. Save before fast travel or entering a city. If youre paranoid, time youre arrival to be during daytime.
