Dawnguard.....terrible?

Post » Tue Nov 20, 2012 10:03 am

I was super stoked when I seen on Xbox live that Dawnguard came out yesterday! But then I got to reading reviews and so on......and everyone basically said it svcks! Your towns get completely wiped out, for the most part! The sun goes away for good! You can no longer be a werewolf if you previously were! My big thing is that the vampires kill almost EVERYONE in your towns, as soon as you download the [censored]! So I am postponing buying this DLC! Maybe someone can make me change my mind? I am a Skyrim fanatic, it's pretty much my favorite game, but I am so disappointed in this, from all the reviews I've read!

Don't listen to reviews. Dawnguard has it's share of bugs but it's an amazing DLC. I recommend you buy it.

It's not terrible, but I wouldn't say it's great either. That's just my opinion though, so you may feel differently. It's up to you if it's worth $20 or not.

Do your towns really get wiped out? And I have another question, I just made an account on here a few minutes ago, and it won't let me upload a photo? But anywho.....I love Skyrim and I really want Dawnguard, but I don't want my file to get dominated, lol. Will it do it to all files on the hard drive as well? Cause I read that the vampires kill people in the towns even when the system is off too!

I think its great to be honest. I lacks the ' character ( or A character I guess)' of shivering isles but it was by far the most fun DLC I have played yet.

spoiler!!!

The sun doest not get blocked permenantly, and I have not had a single attack on a town, possibly as I have completed ( on the account I normally play with) on the dawngaurd side and wiped the vampires in the castle out so this may affect it.

I know people have reported having entire towns wiped out, but I've never had it happen to me.

I'll have to test it out on my other file that's only a level 8, once I get to level 10. I will be very pissed if it screws with my main file, lol. That is, when and if I get it! I am just really iffy on it. Everyone who has commented on my post, and anyone who does in the future, let me know if the vampires wipe out your towns please! I rather them not kill anyone, maybe a guard or two, but nobody else! Haha.

You don't have to be level 10, but you won't hear the rumors about it if you aren't.

You can go straight to Fort Dawnguard to start it.

The best thing you should do is probably not read reviews haha, People see one thing wrong with the game and complain to the extreme, So far from what i've played of the DLC(near the end), I'm liking it. The new areas are crazy good (I like me some cool environments) the new weapons and gear are cool too there's alot to love in this dlc, I can't say too much cause I havent experienced any major glitches or vampire massacres in towns, only like 3 or 4 of them but i bow them pretty quickly. ( I'm Lvl 41 maxed archery). So it's really up to you, I'm a Skyrim Fanatic too, and this dlc has not dissapointed me in any way

I'm level 52 Wood Elf-Nevaeh, and I really don't want my file to be messed with in any way.....I would hate to redo it all, being I can't do it exactly the same and I've put in over 200 hours! I'll have to try it on a different file just to make sure, as I previously said, lol. When I get it I'll use my level 8 Khajiit-Zakiya. I'm a werewolf on my Wood Elf acc. Will I not be able to be a werewolf anymore?

You can still play as a Werewolf if you choose to play on the Dawnguard side.

It can't occur when your game is off. They'll only attack when you're actually in the town. Unfortunately though, there's really no way to stop them. If you get lucky enough they'll spawn close to you and you can kill them before they slaughter your people. But most of the time they'll kill some of your NPCs before you have a chance to even get close to them.

If you don't want your towns to be barren, this DLC is probably not for you.

Oh and another thing, can you change your appearance when you have the DLC? I read that in some reviews, is it true? Cause I'd really enjoy that! Lol.

In 24 hours of gameplay Ive had 2 vampire attacks inside city walls resulting in 0 NPC deaths, so that doesnt happen to everyone. Completely recommend this DLC.

There are ways to fight them more efficently. Like don't fast travel into a city/town (better to fast travel to something close to a city/town and walk to said city/town from there). If it's dark, or even light, you should wait a few minutes outside the gate or enterence of a town before going in. Try to catch the vampires during the day.

I'm sure there are other ways to make it so you would only get a minimum loss of NPC's. In fact, someone on these forums posted a guide in helping you combat this vampire menace.

Does anyone have a link to said guide?

I really want to get Dawnguard, so bad, and play with my main file......but I hate having that in my back of my mind, at all times! *all towns will be wiped out* lol. I know some of you say it hasn't happened for you, but others say the opposite.......I just dunno what to do! They really shouldn't have made that be able to happen in the DLC......it pisses me off to the extremes!

Ignore Nocturnal. It's not that bad, a few people get killed. Nothing to freak about.

I've yet to have a vampire attack any of my towns and according to others the guards usually do a great job of killing the vampires off before they can kill anyone.

Just head to the Ragged Flagon right when you start and change it before you align with either faction.

Nobody answered my other question, how to upload a photo? I know it's not related to the game, but it's related to the website! I dunno why it won't let me, is it because of my member level?
