Dawnguard.....terrible?

Post » Tue Nov 20, 2012 10:15 pm

I was super stoked when I seen on Xbox live that Dawnguard came out yesterday! But then I got to reading reviews and so on......and everyone basically said it svcks! Your towns get completely wiped out, for the most part! The sun goes away for good! You can no longer be a werewolf if you previously were! My big thing is that the vampires kill almost EVERYONE in your towns, as soon as you download the [censored]! So I am postponing buying this DLC! Maybe someone can make me change my mind? I am a Skyrim fanatic, it's pretty much my favorite game, but I am so disappointed in this, from all the reviews I've read!
I haven't had any towns wiped out (even partially) and this is my second playthrough, though I have heard of others with the problem.

The sun doesn't go away for good... In any of the scenarios...

You can if you join the Dawnguard. And you can change back after you finish the VL quest if you wish.

You've been reading some [censored] reviews.

The only two major issues I've seen so far are that, indeed, it wrecks excessive havoc on the cities through random assaults, and that there's poor factional balance between Vamps and Guards in the end.

Aside from these two points, which may well be patched, there's nothing terrible about this :)

Do your towns really get wiped out? And I have another question, I just made an account on here a few minutes ago, and it won't let me upload a photo?

Very detailed response necrovamp! Thank you:) I'm most likely going to buy some Microsoft points and get it tomorrow:) It just seems like they could have done a lot more with it and put more effort into it!!! They could have also done so with Skyrim as well, not complaining or saying anything bad, but it's the truth. And no thanks zexis, I shall pass. I previously stated that I am not here to argue or e-brawl, hahahaha.

I don't fight on the internet; I'm only asking to learn :) As someone who's studying programming and engineering, I'd like to know what you're talking about.

If I am proven wrong, then I learned something today, and that's always a good thing.

I would disagree with the title of this thread. I have only played about halfway through the dawnguard quest, haven't even touched the vampire quest. And I already feel like a finally have a faction quest line that every single build I make from here on out will do.

Do you do smithing? They made it better.

Do you do enchanting? They made an enchanters paradise.

Do you like magic? They made it better (IMO).

Do you like factions? What feels like at least one(hopefully 2) complete well done factions

Do you like exploring? Soul cairne is pretty big (comparable to blackreach), and there is supposedly another large area to explore. I have also been impressed with the design and awe factor of every dungeon they added for the dlc.

There are other things I'm not even going to bother to discuss. All in all I would say a very solid dlc. Introduced a lot of new fun features. Can't wait to see what else they do. And psh I don't know what Todd Howard was talking about I'm going to spend much more than 10-20 hours playing this dlc. Spent 8 hours on it and I'm only half way.

The number one complaint for the dlc is the fact we can't marry the main npc introduced in the story, I'd say Dawnguard did pretty good for itself all things considered.

But anywho.....I love Skyrim and I really want Dawnguard, but I don't want my file to get dominated, lol. Will it do it to all files on the hard drive as well? Cause I read that the vampires kill people in the towns even when the system is off too!

Depends on your level and if you dont defend them (Random vampire attacks at cities you visit, if your below level 20 the most they do is take a guard down before dying, if you attack the vampires it should be allright even on high levels). The sun dosent get removed for ever, thats a lie. Vampires dont kill vampires in town while your offline, thats absurb. They only attack cities when you visit them.

Seems to change the flavor of the game a bit but its not a BAD dlc... As for these people having towns be compeltely wiped out, I have no clue what they're talking about. I've been playing Dawnguard for around 5 Hours and I've seen 3 Vampire attacks with a single dead citizen.

Me and my guards can always kill the vamps, I don't know why people are crying. You really shouldn't listen to anyone, and play it yourself. People have surprisingly stupid reasons not to get it.

Don't listen to reviews. Dawnguard has it's share of bugs but it's an amazing DLC. I recommend you buy it.

Towns can't become complete ghost towns normally (I assume, based on my own rampages and dragons) as a certain number of NPCs will be essential. However, they could get very depopulated, although since as far as I hear attacks occur at night, quite a few NPCs should survive by simply not being outside. Although, in a vid I saw, many NPCs were still heading home when the Vamps attacked.

the only way i think for towns to become ghost towns would be if you entered a town saw a vampire attack then thought [censored] it, and left again. but if you make sure to kill the vampires, then you'll be alright. they might kill 1 or 2 npc's but not the whole town. maybe bethesda should add a spell that lets you bring npc's back to life, normally rather than as a zombie

Alright, well all of you have made me definitely want to get it 80 percent more than before I made this post, lol. Still nervous about it, but everyone has made it a lot better for me, I think I am going to get it:) Keep up the posts though, definitely. I'm sure I will have more questions to ask, especially once I have it!

You won't be disappointed at all should you get it.

Well I am most likely getting it today:) I'm a level 52 so it shouldn't be a problem for me? Oh and another thing, since you download the DLC to your hard drive, will it be on all your other files on the same hard drive as well? If so....then my level 8 file will be [censored] when I play it for the first time, lol. And I am not sure where I was reading reviews......don't really remember! Can really trust a bunch of random sites with the people writing the reviews are probably level 4 and getting Dawnguard, lol, which is why I made an account on here and made this post!
