Dear Ice troll of the thousand steppes.

For me it has always been an axe, one or two handed :lmao: It's material should depend on your level, get to level 50 and it might be Daedric :hehe:

Of course, you could just have saved it a bit more... ;)

The first time, I put more arrows in him than I care to think...

So the ice troll is there regardless of player level? Wow some non-level scaling which actually effects difficulty ... if only the whole game was filled with these dangerous places it was unwise to go until you are a certain level.

There are few other unleved encounters too. Few places always have Death Overlords with Ebony weapons, for example.

It's good that it does this, shakes things up a bit.

This is why developers have to introduce level scaling.

People simply cannot accept anymore that some foes are too much for them. They have to win always and every time.

Thats when i treasured choosing destruction magic in my early levels :bunny: burning him and running was an easy tactic.

I never had a problem with the Ice Troll on the steps to High Hrothgar, probably because I'm always level 30+ before I start the main quest on any of my characters.
Ditto, except around 20-25 for my first character. I'm not stupid enough to try and explore dangerous places before I know how to handle my character and am properly equipped.
I am very surprised so many people had a problem with a Frost Troll, out of all things....for me it was definitely the Snow Bear before that Frost Troll on the way up that was a pain to fight.

I always win. Proper Planning Prevents Poor Performance.

@OP - Save more. Be prepared for anything. Like 2 Ancient Dragons at the same time. Now THAT's being prepared.

This - also, be prepared to Run Away A Lot.
There's no shame in it.

I just did this with my fourth character at level 14, and tried several strategies before I finally took him down. However, I was smart enough to save often, so I didn't have to go back very far. I can't believe people still have not learned to save...often!

The best way to prevent such things is to save constantly and delete old saves after a while, it's saved me plenty of times.

I delete all my saves, right now if I didn't delete them I'd be in the 700s, I've found deleting them helps with the loading screens.

I thought - and correct me if I am wrong - that you could save saves to a USB on the x-box?

Funny that you mention it. On my last playthrough there was no Ice Troll there but a Dragon attacked me a few minutes later on my way up. Did someone else had that too?

Close to this. Climbed up the 7,000 steps, Lydia and I killed the troll (couple of fireball scrolls and some judicious ballet fighting got it done,) did my business with the Greybeards, was heading home and heard a commotion behind me. Turned to see Lydia in a desperate fight against a dragon. Together we won the fight, but ye gods it was tough. I think I was all of 9th level at the time. Very happy and proud I was.

I was a werewolf the first time I met him, I just did the sprint attack and he flew off the mountain. Satisfying
