Lol I just figured out how to mod my 360 saves and started from the beginning with all shouts and no shout reload time. Everything, including THAT FREAKIN' TROLL, was blown over the mountain.
Yeah...don't talk about that here. You'll likeing get a warn/ban/suspension.

The quest for unrelenting force comes with foes akin to the accepted philosophy, fate it seems has a sense of irony. Morpheus would be pleased - the Dovakhin however... not so much.

Save and save often. I turn off the autosave feature. This forces a habit of saving. You will be rewarded by doing that, come crash or kill.

indeed, for example,
after every kill - save
before lock any chest - save (in case of running of lock picks)
after empty the said chest - save
before any door / load area - save
before leveling up - save
after leveling up - save
before turning a quest / talking with some one - save
after turning a quest / talking with some one - save
before buying / selling booty- save
after buying / selling booty- save
before pick someone's items - save
after pick someone's items - save
after doing a "hard" save, do a "quick save"
before exiting the game - save
also, once a week copy your save game file to another drive, if the main hard drive fails, you don't lose your char save file

these are the rules that I use when play the game

for extra protection I use autosave, also

(ok i might over save just a little bit  ....)

save = quick save unless otherwise noted

u cant fus ro dah him u need to complete several mission for the greybeards first, u must retrieve the horn at a dungeon
u meet the ice troll the first time u climb the seven thousand steps to meet the greybeards for the very first time. u can only do the small fus shout which only staggers ur opponents for 1 second, it doesnt really pushes them

Should have dropped a save in Ivarstead.

The part that surprised me is that, after walking all the way to Ivarstead from Whiterun, he didn't even step inside one of the Ivarstead buildings (which would have generated a newer autosave).

But yeah - the idea of not saving constantly is foreign to me. I don't count on autos & quicks (although I do use them) - I make manual saves all the damn time. Especially at milestones (like "about to enter a new town / dungeon").

When I first played Skyrim it seemed a while before anything killed me, but I remember encountering this Troll. Boy, did he p*ss me off. I knew he was susceptible to fire, but I only had Flames, and it seemed to do so little damage. Took ages to get rid of him, but was so satisfying to finally prevail. I still get a sense of dread whenever I meet a Frost Troll.

I love this ice troll. He's just the right enemy on this path: almost impossible to beat at a low level, but slow enough for you to run past him. It's probably the only early-game element that shows that your character is weak and unfit to take on the world just yet. The ice troll and also Falmer if you happen to stumble across their lair.

Not to take away from Mr. Ice Troll, but I seem to remember my first encounter with a giant being a huge reminder of how weak my character was. At least you don't get to go to space camp when the troll hits you. Oh and summoning something to draw it's attention is a good idea, or just use faendal from riverwood as a distraction since he's a follower you can get early on

The worst part is that I literally lost a hour of my life. Nothing was gained.

I only needed one more arrow to kill him! :sadvaultboy:
But if you learned something from the experience, didn't you gain something? All rewards must not be tangible.

Just keep running, then when he jumps down to attack you hit him with a fus (unrelenting force) or yol (fire breath). He will be stunned and you can just run to the top, easy.

If you fight trolls enough you will see they have a hugely predictable attacking style, it's very easy to attack, move back dodging their attack, move in to attack.
This. I never once died from that troll. I got close with my first character, but it wasn't much more than running in and attacking, then getting out of his range, running away and healing doesn't hurt either if you get close to death.

Very first time he caught me off guard. Well placed rock and arrows saved my life. Now I just run by him like he's not even there.
