To be honest, I think the best way to handle this would be to add Dwemer into some form of DLC.
I would happily pay for a DLC that added several underground Dwemer cities that were up to this point unknown about, full of Dwemer and their crazy contraptions.

You haven't played Morrowind have you? The dwarves are dead. I killed the ghosts of them, and I also killed Yagrum Bagarn a couple times. He was the last of the dwemer. Even if I hadn't killed him, he was infected with Corprus, and it's been over 200 years. He's dead. There are no more dwemer.

Sorry, Dwemer are gone, forever.
There are no secret city's.
No hidden Dwemer.

Nothing! Gone! All of them!

I was satisfied with the Dwemer in TES III, I don't see why we'd also need to meet some in TES V.

Even if I hadn't killed him, he was infected with Corprus, and it's been over 200 years. He's dead.
Except Corprus makes you immortal, so there's no reason to believe he hasn't survived another two hundred years.

I think they should add it to another TES game, you know one that has all the spells back... and has attributes that you work on..

I believe both the Dwemer and Akavir should both remain mysterious. Once you lift back that vale, they will no longer be as interesting.

This. In the words of Tolkien "And even in a mythical Age there must be some enigmas, as there always are..."

No. No, we do not demand the Dwemer.

They're too intelligent and too badass to make a full return, both because they would make all the other races look bad, and because Bethesda just couldn't have the Dwemer live up to the hype. Also, the Dwemer are too good to remain in Mundus. That's why they left. Sort of.

lore is made to be broken and renewed, who can prove the dwemer are extinct, maybe they turned into dwemer cups and bent dwemer metal...etc...as joke by sheomadbastard, you've all been walking around with them, storing them in chests...etc...and i bet that would piss them right off, so if the curse ever lifted they be some warring a starting

Hmm. Good point. Forgot about the age immunity. Although I still don't suspect that he did survive, and even if he did, is he really healthy enough to make a trip to Skyrim?

Why are people so locked into "No, they're extinct." thing? So? I know that's the lore but it's a fantasy game. Didn't dragons return? Isn't it, in fact, actually a mystery what exactly happened to them? The last one in Morrowind said they were extinct but he also wasn't there. How many times have we found the history that we all believed in real life wasn't true? Don't you think that in fantasy game where gods and people constantly pop in and out of other dimensions that they could explain their return just about how ever they wanted to?

I remember people used to post that they wished TES had dragons, and all the experts would say "No, they're extinct."

Mark my words, the Dwemer will return!

Not in DLC though, I think they'd build a game around that.

Well I guess they could come back in Mechs loaded with missiles and lasers that go PEW PEW! but I think it would detract somewhat from the game and make it feel a bit cheesy.

Personally I like the mystery and the object lesson where the Dwemer are concerned, get too far above yourselves and you will pay the price.
