Demon's Souls is exclusive, but Dark Souls isn't. http://www.gamespot.com/news/6297089.html

So no love for PC gamers?

Demons Souls looked like a great game but I wasn't prepared to go out and buy a console just to play it.

And if it is Japanese and a Role-Playing Game, then it is a JRPG.

Someone get this guy a purple flame shield +10

Though both games are in the RPG genre ( ARPG for dark souls) I think they have different appeal. I doubt that dark souls will be RPGish enough for hardcoe RPG fans.

The biggest problem I have will be choosing which to play, once they both come out that is. A happy problem.

Yeah there's some serious console warring over the fact this will not be a ps3 exclusive. It is obvious there trying to make dark souls a more commercial success and going cross platform will make more money. I could care less about exclusive titles, I just want a good game.

The game may not have sold as well as Uncharted / Killzone but DS didn't have a very big marketing machine to drive sales either. The game did better than expected and is a PS3 "greatest hit." Uncharted / Killzone are monster titles for the PS3 so the comparison seem a bit like apples and oranges. Small indie game vs behemoth main stream titles.

Sweet the rage will make up for the loss of mass effect as an exclusive.
Honestly exculisives are dying, its just better for the devs financially to sell both platforms.

Looking at this game, I am dissapointed, it looks more geared to a charater like a knight/warrior than a rogue which is my usual character type.

Oh, you can play the rogue very well. In fact, the combat system makes it easier for beginners to play a rogue-ish character who dodges often, rather than a fully armoured knight.

I hope they show the rouge/thief class some love in Dark Souls as well. The rouge gameplay from Demon's Souls was a bit lack luster and IMO took the most experience to play. Just took awhile to learn riposte / backstab mechanics.

Game looks good, I've always wanted to play a game as a knight fighting monsters AND be able to choose my loadout and everything. So glad it's coming to the 360, Demon's Souls was the only game that made me want a PS3.

Anyway, I've got a few questions:

1. I'm a bit confused about the multiplayer, how exactly does it work? If it works differently from the Demon's Souls multiplayer can you explain how the multiplayer for that one worked?

2. Is there a story or is it just a fighting/exploring game?

3. What type of characters can we play? By that I mean, can we play like archer, stealth, fighter, mage and any combination of two of them?

4. Can we customize the appearance of our characters? Will we be limited by class on this?

5. How do we go about acquiring different weapons? Do we just find them around? As a reward? Do we have to collect materials to make them?

Though they haven't given many details regarding multiplayer, according to the trailer it seems like it will be a part of the game (you can see summoned phantoms in the trailer, or what looks to be summoned phantoms.)

The demon's souls multiplayer worked like this:

You can play the game in soul or body form.

While in soul form, using certain stones you find through the course of the game, you can use these stones in certain areas of each level to search for a multiplayer game. You can be summoned as a helper as a blue phantom, invade as a black phantom, or be summoned as a black phantom in a challenge match.

While in body form you can summon other players (up to 2) into your world or other players can invade your game in an attempt to kill you and resurrecting themselves in body form.

Players who are summoned or invade are always in soul form. While in souls form your HP is reduced depending on your character tendency and the world tendency of the lvl you are playing on. These tendency's also alter the amount of damage you do while playing as a phantom.

For example: If you invade alot and kill players for their body you will get dark character tendency. In souls form your HP will be less but you'll also do more damage.

Also after completing the game a certain way, you receives red stone to challenge other players in a PVP match. The loser loses a souls level and the winner receives the souls that were lost.

That is just the jist of it and there's other detail I didn't elaborate on. A really fun and unique MP system.

As far as the other questions, no one is sure because there not legit info on those topics yet, at least I haven't seen any.

1). Ratt pretty much gave the gist of it.

2). There are no details on Dark Souls storyline yet, but I imagine it will be handled similarly to Demon's Souls. That has a story that initially feels like a pretty basic excuse plot, but actually has a fair bit of depth in the way it carries itself. It uses a lot of minimalism, similar to Shadow of the Colossus if you're familiar with that, implying a lot of things in the world and backstory to give you just enough forge your own interpretation of things. Demon's story was...surprisingly good to me in that regard, and I hope Dark's will be much like it.

3). Yeah...that about covers it. Although you picked a class in Demon's Souls, it was really more something that determined what equipment, spells, and stats you would start off with, from there, you could make whatever character you liked. All signs are pointing to Dark Souls being even less rigid.

4). We could in Demon's Souls, so I imagine we will be able to again in Dark Souls.

5). In Demon's Souls, you get weapons the same as any other RPG; either find them in preset locations in the world, enemy drops, or bought from vendors. Though there are also some special weapons that can only be obtained by forging a normal weapon with a specific demon soul acquired from a boss. Don't see why Dark Souls will be fundamentally any different.

2. Is there a story or is it just a fighting/exploring game?

Demon's Souls didn't bother with some super-epic story. The general story of Demon's Souls went something like this...

Spoiler
King of Boletaria goes power hungry from using the Soul Arts, because he's a pessimistic jerkoff, and calls the Old One back to the world. Fog descends over Boletaria, cutting it off from the rest of the world. People want the treasure and power the Soul Arts bring, and try to pierce the fog. You're one of the dudes. You get killed fighting a demon, and the Maiden in Black binds you to the Nexus to kick butt. You become the only hope of the stopping the Old One from making the fog spread over the entire world.

Story isn't really of huge importance in this game.

3. What type of characters can we play? By that I mean, can we play like archer, stealth, fighter, mage and any combination of two of them?

Classes only determine your starting gear and stats, and from that point you can build whatever kind of character you want. My main character is a "arch mage" (Made up. I cast miracles and spells) with some fighting ability. And I made that character just by upgrading the stats in the way I wanted. All miracles and spells are open to every player, provided you have high enough stats.

4. Can we customize the appearance of our characters? Will we be limited by class on this?

Oh yeah, you can customize your look. Class has nothing to do with it.

5. How do we go about acquiring different weapons? Do we just find them around? As a reward? Do we have to collect materials to make them?

The lower level weapons you can buy from vendors, and some of the middle level weapons, too. Higher level weapons are generally found in one of the five levels, and almost all weapons can be upgraded to at least +5 depending on how you wanna upgrade it. To upgrade, you do have to collect materials. Some are easier to find than others (like how I'm having a [censored] of a time finding the last piece of Dark Moon Stone I need to get my Crescent Kiliji +5)

And there are a lot of weapons.

So I can expect lots of griefing in a hard game... Great.
Also what is the fighting like ? DAOish where you can move and use certain pwoers andd its stat heavy, or action ?

Think Legend of Zelda and you're halfway there. It's very action. You control fully what your character does from rolling to weapon attacks, and switching items. Everything is pretty much put into the hands of the player.

And I wouldn't worry about griefing. They can only try to get you when you're in body form, and people aren't in body form a lot :P

Lots of griefing? Heh, no. You can only be invaded while in body form, and chances are you'll be spending the majority of your time in soul form, especially on your first time through. Not to mention invaders always start out at a disadvantage, having less HP (they're in soul form, you're in body form), and are oftentimes a lower level than you. AND, if any help''s available, you can summon other players to help you fend them off, while invaders can only fight by their lonesome. But if you honestly can't stand the possibility of getting invaded, you can always play offline.

Combat works like an action-based game, and success largely depends on your own reflexes; you need to know when to attack, dodge, heal, and block. Stats do play a large part in your performance, though, such as how much HP, MP, and Stamina you have, your damage output from weapons and spells, physical resistance and so on.

But they will have an advantage 2 v 1, unless they kill eachother.

While Yahtzee hated this game (and I hate him grrr ), he did say something pretty funny.

"Demon's Souls give you back your healthbar when you prove you don't need it. Clearly, a game that does not [censored] around".

EDIT: You can only be invaded by one person at a time. So 2 v 1 only will happen in your favor, because you can summon Blue Phantoms to help you out. Black Phantom really are at a huge disadvantage in this game.

Stats are important, but not as important as player skill.

Demon's Souls is pretty linear, being level based. Most things occur in dungeons. So walking/running is the norm, and climbing happens only if there is a ladder around. There are no horses, except corpses of them. But Dark Souls is opening the world up. I have no idea whether you'll be able to jump, or ride a horse, but we'll have a world to play around in.

Read my edited post. Only one invader can ever attack you at a time. You, however, can summon one or two players to help you.

How am I supposed to answer that? I can't compare this game to Dragon Age, it has a much different battle system. Look, stats are important, they shouldn't be neglected, and you need to consider which ones you want to raise carefully, but more than anything, victory will depend more on your personal skill. And...the Mother was kicking your ass in Awakening on casual?! Man, you must really svck at games. :P

You can only move around on foot, you can walk, run, or sprint. Occasionally, you might climb a ladder. No jumping, though. There are no horses or anything to ride on.

Well thats good, much better at killing things myself than stats.
This world sounds pretty damn big, if it is walking everywhere will be a pain. Unless there is fast travel.

Well I could have not had my ass kicked if I chose the right party, but my choices were because I wanted a certain ending. But yeah, I svck at stats, which is why I gave up on fallout 1, after being killed by raiders...
But aslong as stats arent that important, I think will be ok.
Well my character was a rogue, low constitution, and got hit a few times, also I relied on morrigan in DAO, here characters were just to dffferent, also I play

Hehehe. They lose a soul level, and a point to their statistic permanently. So Black Phantom will do their damndest to kill you. When I get invaded, I usually just throw myself off a cliff.

Well, if you Black Phantom someone, and they die without you killing them, you lose the level and stat. Permanently. So say you're soul level 128, you'll go back to SL 127, and lose a point in one stat. But, your upgrade cost also resets back to what you needed to get to SL 128. And the only way to upgrade is to use souls, which you get from killing enemies.

How would I get back to my physical form ?

Use a Stone of Ephemeral Eye, kill a boss, or help someone kill a boss if you're in Blue Phantom form.

I prefer Soul Form, though. I do more damage in that form, and since magic is my primary way of killing, health doesn't matter all that much to me.
