Did you guys hear? Kinect will change your gameplay experien

Post » Fri Jun 22, 2012 10:19 am

Doesn't the title just piss you off? :) I hate having to see "Better with Kinect" every time I search up Skyrim on the internet. Saying shouts out loud isn't going to give you a lifechanging experience. God, am I sick of hearing about Kinect. Who else agrees?

I don't mind. They're just trying to advertise their product.

I completely agree. And trust me, I own the sensor. I've used the voice tracking for both Skyrim and ME3, and in both instances I've came away disappointed. The "Better with Kinect" is just advertising sham by Microsoft. In the ME3 "Better with Kinect" trailer, they say "ME3 is Better with Kinect" like 10 times. Ill give you a link if you want a laugh.

I ... I never hear about Kinect ...
Actually, I take that back. It was at the end of the Dawnguard trailer. But I just turned off the video once the actual gameplay was over.

But does it REALLY matter that Microsoft are trying to market their product? From what I gather, it makes Companions easier to use, includes better hotkeys and the ability to shout - either using the names or the Words of Power.

Just ignore it, or realize that it really doesn't matter.

I laugh at it if anything, and laugh at Todd even though he called those things 'gimmicks'.

It just rubs me the wrong way that a company like Bethesda would give in to Microsoft's little gimmicks by advertising their POS product that initially has nothing to do with the game. Now, maybe if they made the actual combat Kinect enabled, I wouldn't mind, but come on, voice enabled shouts isn't going to make the game any better. Just seems pretty low to me.

That's what voice control is. It would be better if they just used the headset like with EndWar.

Hahaha. That trailer is the reason why I posted this. It's pathetic.

I got a kinect for xmas and found it useless up until now. I was pretty skeptical when they first announced kinect integration but after using it I agree 100% with the title. People keep making comments about shouting at your tv but there are many uses other then shouts (also I just use my normal speaking voice and it pick it up just fine). Where the kinect comes in really handy is to be able to say "new save" and it will save without going to a menu, or the multiple voice keys it allows you for weapons and spells which allow one to change weapons without pausing the game. I rarely have to use the quick or regular inventory menu when playing anymore. Also to be able to open my house containers and say "sort by name" and have it sort everything makes the world of difference.

For me, who was a skeptic, I can honestly say kinect has changed my skyrim experience.

Its sad when Microsoft has to not only beg developers on bended knee to include Kinect support (which I think they do behind closed doors) but they spend an entire E3 press conference begging the public to buy a Kinect

Microsoft signed a deal with Bethesda - Xbox gets a timed exclusive on DLC and the right to advertise Kinect, Bethesda gets a nice lump of money. How's that pathetic? Believe it or not, gaming is a huge, multi-million dollar industry. Why's it pathetic that Bethesda would want to better themselves in that industry?

I just bought a Kinect.

But I haven't set it up yet because I'm worried my neighbors will call the cops after hearing all the shouting. (not really. But I think I'm going to feel a bit foolish using it).

Darn it, I just wanted to be able to quick save on the Xbox! But I just know I'm going to end up learning the Dragon Language.

If the GD thing could understand me most of the time then yes it WOULD have changed the game play for the better for me. But having to bark out " equip bow " 4 times as a dragon charges me is bad for combat, the dragon eats me before the damn kinect equips the bow :swear: And I'm from Canada, I can just imagine what it's like when your from a country where english isn't your first language and you have a bit of an accent, cause us Newfies sound irish and the stupid thing cannot recognize what I'm saying even though I'm speaking english  :wallbash:

Do you get mad at McDonald's every time you see golden arches? Of coarse not, that's not rational.

It's called advertising, and it's smart.

Look at the xbox 360 dude it's a 7years old console totally outdated but still capable of running skyrim, Kinect is microsoft's last improvment to sell this dying console so its normal you see it everywhere. Anyway i dont have kinect but its cool to use it instead of command menu which pause the game in action.

True. They probably had plans to add Kinect support way before launch, it just wasn't ready. At least Bethesda waited to add the feature, unlike how Bioware just added it as an unfinished product.

Kinect is useless. MS could have put more time into making more useful things instead of milking the cash cow within an inch of its life.

FYI - you can say the english version of the shout as well. i.e. you can say whirlwind sprint or become etheral rather then saying it in the dragon language.

Being from Western Canada this made me chuckle. Love the newfie accent. FYI the equip bow is one of the few that gives me trouble as well. I assign my bow to "equip mace" as that seems to never miss for me.

The thing is, the sensor is absolutely horrible at picking up voices if you live in a loud environment like I do. I usually have a very loud air conditioner running (I live in an apartment), and it cant pick up me or my family member voices at all. And yes, I've calibrated the sensor.
