To be honest I would like to see guns in TES. Not modern of course, but it seems it's not something people want in TES for what-ever reason, That's why we have mods. More on topic though, I don't see the point of adding them in to just remove them again, that just seems like a tease that will piss off both sides of the spectrum.

guns wouldn't really fit though...it would basically be slower magic that you have to reload. Might as well destroy them like the OP suggests so tht there can't be any.

the OP does not want guns, he wants to a quest to destroy guns that are being made so that there are no more guns ever in TES history. You guys are not reading his post huh?

Im assuming the guns would be used.

Spoiler
They tried to purge all the information regarding the Galdur Amulet, but even after thousands of years, people still heard whispers of them. It's not easy to destroy all records of anything.

Dwemer anyone?

Records of the Dwemer still remained. Their disappearance didn't suddenly make all traces and records of their existence disappear along with them. Nobody forgot that the Dwemer used to be in Tamriel. That's my point. You can destroy the weapon, but people aren't going to forget it existed.

I don't see how guns are like magic, but the problem with adding, then removing them right away is that people who like the idea of guns are going to be upset that they were introduced, then taken away without any choice. People who don't like the idea of them in the game will be upset because it would set in motion the possibility of the idea turning up again, and some people would just be upset it was mentioned at all.

Just do it quickly, ok? =P

I say again... because I don't think most were grasping the comment. Why would you want DLC that only added something for you to destroy?

No guns in TES. Let all concepts of it be lost to time or nonexistent in this universe. Just no we have magic anyways even tho its a shell of what it used to be I. Skyrim but its still there if you want guns cast a fireball. Grenades, use an explosive fireball.

Sigh... what's wrong with a handcannon? It doesn't mean everything will be modern. Let's think. The Dwemer ruins are already steampunk. Handcannons are steampunk. It would fit into the Dwemer's theme.

And IMO an online gladiatorial deathmatch would be the excellent. What's wrong with a single online element, with high risks and high reward (perma death and looting the other player's corpse, maybe)?

Will NEVER happen in The Elder Scrolls. Thats one great thing about Beth, they will never screw us over and make online play.

How would that be screwing you over? What is bad about a 1v1 gladiatorial deathmatch? It uses the same mechanics as SP, it won't screw mods over, you don't HAVE to do it.

First of all Todd said that will never happen. The Elder Scrolls series is a single player game and will always be. They'd have to take all that time away from putting that detail in the game to make an online mode. Stop trying to make the game something its not.

I'm not, I'm just open minded to ideas. Tell me, in what way does a voluntary gladiator pit detract from your exprience? And how does it inconvenience you?

thats not the point. the point is, the more they add to an online mode, the more they take away from the original game.

They could do it at the same time as expanding the roleplaying elements. I think of Skyrim as a beginner's RPG. Get them into the genre and then climb to the next level. Soon enough we'll get our divergent quests and so forth. But add in a competitive online element that encourages competition and loot grabbing, and maybe the next TES will be better for it.

Let's not derail this thread into a pointless discussion about online play.

Let's keep it firmly planted in a useless discussion about something that should never, ever, ever be implemented as DLC.

Also, I'm now proposing a DLC where you get to play in Tamriel... in the FUTURE! The only catch is that when you finish, you wake up and realize it was all a dream. See? No one should mind having to do something inane and completely outside the aesthetic of the series, because at the end it never mattered! Brilliance! $100,000, please.

Let's totally make Morrowind again, guys! It'll be brilliant, and we can keep making the same game every year!

Right.

See, if you actually paid attention to who was posting, you'd know that I'm the last person who wants that.

There's a difference between updating mechanics and the world within the established aesthetic of the series, and just adding stuff because "Lulz wudnt it b kewl lulz." Ideas that fall in the second category (for me) include: multiplayer deathmatches, guns, and being able to ride dragons like ponies.

Edit: first thing you say, well, I don't know you and your name is nerevarine. Which suggests yet another crazed Morrowind elitist.

Riding dragons is crap, I agree. Guns should have a last priority on weapons (crossbows, spears, staves, nonlethal takedowns and poisons, dart shooters first) but I wouldn't object to them being added within the context of the series. But a gladiatorial pit fight would make sense. A place to test yourself and be competitive, with high rewards and risks. Hell, pit fights don't exclude singleplayer beastfights, which would be epic.

Seriously? if you really wanna play an open world game with guns, your playing the wrong game. Play Fallout 3, or Fallout: New Vegas, both are good open world games, WITH GUNS! Oh, and if you want a somewhat open world game with a blunderbuss/Handcannon, go play Fable 2, Fable 3, or you can even wait until Guild Wars 2 comes out!
